Coach Legacy Alligator

coachlegacy_croc.png

OK, Coach lovers out there, even you will have to admit that this is a stupid waste of money. I didn’t want to continue ragging on Coach, but I couldn’t let this one go. This is an alligator that they are trying to sell for $10,000 in their Legacy collection. I don’t think there is going to be much of a legacy when nobody buys anything. If they did their market research or just read Bag Snob, they would know that their bread and butter is in lower priced practical leather bags that women buy until they have enough money to move up on the designer hierarchy. Once women can afford beyond Coach, why buy Coach? Someone who is regularly buying Chanel and Lanvin isn’t suddenly going to be woo-ed and wowed by a Coach, especially an exotic. You will get laughed at and ridiculed as nouveau riche for not knowing designers other than ones that are carried at Macy’s. I mean, the bag is ok, a bit old lady-ish, the green is nice but there is no way to justify a $10,000 Coach bag. You can call Coachicon yourself at 866-262-2440 if you don’t believe me.

  1. I’d rather buy a Nancy Gonzalez or a Birkin.

I only use my Coach bags (2) when I need a bag to abuse.

  2. If I was going to spend 10K on a bag, it would probably not be this one. Not because it is Coach but because there are other bags I have my eyes on. I know alot of people look down on Coach but I see nothing wrong with the a Coach bag as long as it looks nice and suits an outfit. I have Hermes, Bottega, and Coach in my collection and they are all loved.

  3. My crocodile Anya Hindmarch Bespoke Ebury cost that much! And it was customized with a lovely engraved message from my husband, leather and hardware choice (green with silver hardware). It’s a $10,000 keepsake whereas the Coach bag is just forgettable. I don’t own a Birkin but I imagine for that price you could get a beautiful, unique bag at Hermes. I just don’t understand Coach at all…

  4. I agree with bianca. Bag Snob you seem to only look down on Coach precisely because it is Coach. They’ve created some fuglies but who hasn’t? You seem to to disdain Coach because it’s cheap. But just because it’s cheap in price (and they’re not really that cheap for the rest of us non-snobs) doesn’t mean it’s automatically ugly, or poorly designed, or not well made.

My Coach bags have held up just as well, and actually better than my Diors.

Coach appeals to a wide swath of the population not because of the price–nobody drops $800 on a Coach bag just to have a Coach bag–but because they have their own style that catches the eye.

In the end it should be about what’s well designed, what melds gorgeous form with function. Not names and prices.

  5. I do like the look of the bag and would pay the regular 200-600 dollars Coach price for it. But 10 grand? Hell no!

  6. BagSnob is so right though…$10,000 is a price pretty much reserved for an exclusive brand, and frankly – since Coach started being seen on every 12 year old kid and every other person at the mall, then who is Coach kidding? Their crazy pricing is precisely why I no longer buy Coach. For what they charge, I can have YSL… I’m not hating on your ladies who love your Coach…cheers!

  7. At the end of the DAy its still coach!

Every Designer needs to stay in their lane. ANd as said before its much easier to start at the TOP then ease your way down. But to go from $300 to $10,000. Ummmm .. NO ! 🙂

  8. I completely agree with you-Coach is a brand that you buy because you can’t quite afford those brands that are higher up on the food chain….once you make it to the top, it’s not likely that you go back to the bottom. A $10,000 bag is clearly Coach’s attempt to bite into the uber-luxe market.

  9. whilst i agree that COACH selling a $10,000 bag is RIDICULOUS…i have to disagree with sarabelle. not all coach buyers buy coach because they can’t “quite afford” it. there are heavy coach lovers out there and buy coach because they LOVE it. please don’t make such assumptions that they can’t afford “brands” that are higher than coach. by saying that, you’re making yourself look ignorant and offending people who love coach .

  10. hahahhahaaaa I love the people defending coach! You cant be a luxury brand when you knock off Gucci, another manufacturer of horrible bags.

  11. Okay…. I know the name of this site is bag SNOB, but stop being such ummm snobs! I can afford a lot more than coach, but it’s not how much you spend on a bag, it’s how it looks, right? Believe me, the appeal of the birkin or a double chain chanel is not lost on me, I have a few, but are you so insecure with yourself that it just HAS to be a well known upscale designer? Come on ladies… you sound tacky when you write entries like the above.

  12. I don’t think they’re actually trying to sell $10,000 purses… I think that they’re using it as marketing to cement their luxury image and move the $300 ones… And I’ll bet it’s a strategy that works…

  13. I agree with M. I don’t buy Coach because I can’t afford other bags. I purchase it because I like some of their styles. Who in their insecure mind buys bags for “the expensive price?”

I think the bag is nice, but I would not spend $10,000 on it. I wouldn’t spend $10,000 on a Birkin, either, cause they are quite plain Jane me. It seems like some of these designers go beyond classy, and throw any pieces of scrap trash together, put their name on it with a hefty price tag, and target the silly women who are just looking to say “I have a such and such bag.”

  14. There is NO way I would drop this kind of coin on a Coach or any other bag and I am a handbag lover. I think there is a point where you have to get a grip. Sorry, but this is insane, especially to have one of those Coach tags hanging from said bag.

  15. What I don’t understand is why companies don’t understand, embrace, and stick to their niche/loyal customers. This is not Coach’s segment of the market! Why can’t they leave well enough alone? If I start thinking exotics, the name Coach doesn’t enter my mind, nor will it ever.

  16. I voted yes, I’d buy it, and it seems we are in the majority. I love that color I wouldn’t care whose bag it was. When you have class and are not nouveaux riche you don’t have to worry about labels. But sadly I’m not riche and will have to go without.

  17. I think you might be surprised at how many of these $2k-$10k bags Coach sells. Go into 57th and Madison and ask. Regardless, JC nailed it, it is not about the $10k bag, it is about elevating the brands perception. Bags over $400 were Coachs fastest growing segment in 3Q07…

  18. Personally I think anyone who would spend $10K on ANY bag is insane. The only reason to do so is, as the name of this blog implies, snob appeal. I have always been boggled that someone’s self-worth can be so wrapped up in what they can buy.

Seriously, can anyone explain to me why anyone should spend that much money for something to haul stuff around in?

  19. overal what makes a good bag or merchandise period is the quality of the material/ craftmanship and its overal appeal to your lifestyle. Coach is a CLASSIC AMERCIAN SPORTY label.they make items which u can use frequently and not worry about it coming apart i see how many above state how Coach should know its place and how they love hermes. but it is frankly absurd to compare two totally different labels. Hermes is a CLASSIC FRENCH LABEL WITH A RICH EQUESTRIAN HERITAGE . They are two totally different companies which appeal to two totally different lifestyles ( neither being better than the other) but from a business stand point coach is a smart company for it is able to create a wide range of products from the signature logo to nondescript leather bags. and overal Coach is the only handbag company out there with a wide selection of ipod cases rangeing from signature logo pattern to alligator cases. ironically Hermes will be changeing soon especially since I read Jean Paul Gaultier has signed on to design for the house this should be interesting

  20. Coach… is made in china or somewhere else other than europe. I’ve got one for school bag a few years back and I saw the tag imprinted inside.. with the word China IN IT! Nothing against China but if you’re gonna price your goods like that, shouldn’t it be made in.. france or italy? I really don’t know about Coach though, only had one.

  21. this bag was featured in vogue! its amazing and the reason why its expensive people is because its italian alligator!!! HELLO!!!!!!!!! not because its coach. everyone is like “why is it so expensive?!” ITS BECAUSE OF THE SKIN! and hell yes i’d buy it its hot as hell

  22. Excuse me for the so called “bag snobs”, as a bag lover, one doesn’t care much about the brand, but the style, the materials they’d use and the efficiency. Buying/fancy-ing COACH doesn’t mean one cannot afford a much pricey bag. How narrow-minded… pathetic thinking…

Coach mostly makes a durable and reliable pieces. As per the design, you cannot say it’s a melt down, one way or the other. Also, many bag lovers thank the brand because it gives almost everyone the VALUE FOR THEIR MONEY.

I have read someone posted that if she’s looking for a bag to abuse, it non other than Coach bag! Well that proves it is DURABLE.

To conclude, it’s not the bag (per se) you are snobbing but the brand. So why not call youselves “BRAND SNOBS”?

  23. I love my coach bags. I could probably afford the higher brands and such, but whatever label, doesn’t matter. It’s insane.

  24. $10k for any bag is insane unless you have money to throw in the trash or burn in your fireplace. I’m a COACH devotee and have been for years – not because I can’t afford anything “better” – I certainly can. I stay with COACH because their bags “work” well for those of us who travel on business, they last for years and when they do retire, they’ve led a good life for the price. Speaking of wear, I’d put my COACH up against some of the plastic-looking Prada and LV I’ve seen out and about. It’s not about how much you spend, it’s about brand loyalty because it works for you.

  25. I carry bags in all price ranges except five figures, since I don’t want to eat cat food after I retire. I must concur with others here: Coach is about brand loyalty and dependability, which doesn’t require a snob label.

I have authentic LV Damier Speedy 25, Prada leather and python St. John. GET THIS: I AM STILL THE SAME PERSON WHETHER I CARRY MY LV OR MY COACH!!! I am not better than someone else because I’m carrying Prada. In fact, I carry my high end bags less often than my Coach, which have served me for decades. No problems with frayed stitching or awkward straps, falling hardware, ever. If I had 5 figures, I’d buy a Coach alligator or the Lauren Ricky. Both are gorgeous, and alligator is alligator regardless of the label. As for the Snob Factor, Ralph Lauren merchandise and boutiques are present in every American mall right next door to Coach.

From your narrative, I’d say you have zero business intelligence. The fashion media initially criticized Coach for entering the high end market, yet this strategy has yielded soaring stock prices and excellent PE ratios for investors. Wall Street applauds this strategy. Now even J Crew is entering the high end market. So, lose your attitude and admit you’re wrong. Money talks, and fashion editors are happy to feature Coach ads in their magazines. Buy some Coach stock and get rich yourself, instead of blowing $15,000 and making Hermes rich. Then you can design and make handbags you like under your own name.

  26. I like the design of the bag. But I would rather buy other brand of bag because the design is quite similar to other bags on the market and it is much cheaper than this Coach bag. The quality might be as good as other Coach bags but I would rather buy a bag whose design is not similar with the others. I’m looking for a bag that is not too common.

  28. i think… if i were those ladies who’s very addicted in fashion, particularly in bags. i would not buy this coach bag… why buy coach bag bags if you cant feed yourself three times a day?… i mean, lets

just be practical. our economy today is really at stake, so try to discipline yourself, dont buy that very fabulous and sophisticated

bags which is very expensive too. instead, try to seek opportunities

that can help yourself and your life be more progressive…

  29. I have to agree with this: It’s not about how much you spend, it’s about brand loyalty because IT WORKS FOR YOU. Although, it’s really expensive, but hey, if the quality of the bag is worth buying for and you have enough money to pay for it.. then why not buy it?

  30. i think it would really just depend on you.. whether you buy it for the brand or quality, since there are women out there who loves bags as if its a total necessity even though they have like millions already. well if you can afford it and the brand works for you then buy it. but if your gonna ask me, since economy is down, id go for cheaper bags with good quality since its more practical..

  31. Actually, i dont care who buys this or that…

the quality of the brand is more important…

if you have tested the quality and know that they are stable, why not stick to it. if you can’t afford it try testing other brands… being practical is a wise thing to do. if you’re lacking of budget don’t try to afford something you can’t… it will just cause you bankruptcy. if you love the brand, continue loving it. but, you don’t always have to buy it…

  32. ahhhh! the branded names! it would just cause you fame… that is what hollywood personality needs not all of the masses.. but still, if you want to buy a gift for yourself, why not? still its a messy price.. there are many leather bags at marikina that can match the leather of that… at a cheap price… foshizzle dizzle! :))

  33. the bag is ok especially for those who loves fashion, but it’s VERY expensive.. hello! look at our economy now… i rather donate it than buy that expensive bag or save it to my future…

ITS ONLY A BAG!! for that cost, i rather save it for my education… lets be practical.. there’s a lot of bag that is cheaper than that coach and having a good quality also…. THAT’S ONLY A BAG, for those who are rich that can afford it, think again before buying it, there’s a lot of people who’s hungry and poor, why dont you donate it to them instead buying some of those fabulous bag?? $10k is A BIG MONEY … THINK AGAIN!! you’re buying the NAME of the bag not the quality of it..

  34. ahhh! the branded bags… you don’t need it unless you’re a hollywood personality.. but if you sure want to buy a gift for yourself.. buy it! but still think for the price you’ll spend.. $10k is much.. many leather bags can match those its just branded.. out!

  35. Well, Im not that interested to leather bags but to put in simple it is insane to buy a bag that worth of $10,000. It’s just a waste but to think about it, they’ve strive hard to sell something like this.I don’t know the type of girls if they are bag collector or something *evi laugh* but anyway, it still depends to the buyer to what’s HIS/HER type if it is the design or the color, or both. Just like that.

Anyway, who would insanely buy a $10,000 hand bag just for accessories? Right? ~.^

  38. spending $10k on a bag is insane…i could probably buy a lot more good looking bags that i like other than that $10k bag. But,if the design of that bag works for you, if you really want it, and if you can afford it, then why not buy it…?

and i think a lot more people would prefer good looking, fashionable and affordable in one package…

  39. They made a bAg for $10,000 ? Come on, this is stupid dont they think that it is too risky? Because only 1 in every 100,000 people that dwells in this world,

And I am also concerned of the killing of animals just to make a bag…Alligators are on the edge of extinction. Fabric would be nice for a bag or what-so-ever..It is a crime to kill animals.

I am not interested in bags or what-so-ever, But will you spend $10,000 dollars in just a BAG!?, come on, Only stupid people will spend their money on a Insanely super expensive bag..

I rather buy a car, or a house or rather make a small business than to buy bag….for $10,000

  40. let me begin by saying that there are plenty more designer brands that produce bags at a cost that’s high, yet have been accepted and patronized by people from the upper class. I know Prada, Chanel, Louis Vuitton (etc.) and Coach is far from the those brands’ popularity and mark of luxury. By releasing a bag that costs ten grand, it’s like trying to be at par with the other designer brands, which is totally absurd.

Coach makes good at selling leather bags with a reasonable cost, but this one’s definitely not going to click. I mean, why buy a half-million peso (conversion of ten grand to Php) handbag when you could buy a Chanel at that price? Well, it doesn’t make sense buying that Coach bag. Come to think of it, it’s Alligator-skin material, I’m not an environmentalist or animal lover or anything, I just don’t like the idea of skinning off a gator and using the material for a handbag, then pricing it a whopping $10,000. *sigh* May the alligator rest in peace.

  41. 10,000 dollars!?

for that price, aside from it’s “alligator skin”, the representation of the bag, in my opinion, is too generic. I also think that Alligator skin doesn’t attract women of this generation aside from the old folks.

I think this product is only for Coach fanatics…

  42. 10,000 dollars?

Let me say that if you have that kind of bag you’ll be famous and other may think that you belong to the social world but in my opinion, I will not buy that kind of bag because now, there is more important than that bag.

I think this product works for

those who can afford it. But, It is

totally INSANE. It is just an

Alligator crap or what so ever.

I don’t care about that bag

I don’t care about that product

I don’t care about that brand.

So if you want it, Buy it

    Oh Shit! my nose bleeds:)

  43. If you remove the tag..the alligater bag is only worth $100??? You sound like an idiot.

As does anyone else that puts down an entire brand…known for making quality and timeless and durable bags…

Judging a brand based on it’s name and not each bag individually isn’t being a “bagsnob’ it’s being prejudiced.
