Samsonite by Alexander McQueen

samsonite_mcqueen.jpg

Alexander McQueen designed a line of luggage for Samsonite Black Label that is influenced by emaciated skeletal models. Is that a good thing? Is that what you want to look at when you’re traveling? I don’t know about you, but when I’m flying, the thought of not having real food for the duration of the flight makes me super hungry so the last thing I want to see before I board is my starved looking luggage. Besides, it’s just creepy. I am not one who believes in Halloween decorations. I don’t mean just for myself – of course I do not have ghosts and goblins hanging from my home in October. I mean that I do not believe there should be Halloween decorations for anyone, period! Anything skeleton like is morbid and scary and should not have anything to do with being fabulous. Maybe that’s why Alexander McQueen was deathly ill at the launch party. Hero (skeleton) 20″ upright is $750, Boarding Bag is $555, and Garment Bag is $600 at Samsonite Black Label online.

  1. Yes,you are right Tina, the foursome together look quite scary, especially the one on wheels and a handle.Gives me the creeps too.The final flight-don´t want to think about it.

  2. White bags for travel? The ridges are different, they would be nice if McQueen has used ocean waves, or sand dunes, or something like that for inspiration.

  3. You’re right; they are quite creepy. I think that the Skeletor wheelie suitcase looks more like an enormous beetle with a creepy ridged exoskeleton. And the others aren’t much better, in that they look difficult to carry and, as far as you can tell from a picture, quite heavy.

On the other hand, the range may have a very practical value in that the other passengers would give you a very wide berth at the luggage carousel. Given a choice between the hippy with the haversack and the Alien Beetle Bag, where would you stand? I tell you, that bag is a hop, skip and a jump away from spouting antennae and asking to be taken to your leader. Horrible.

  4. The X-ray on wheels is just creepy. Who wants to be reminded of an ER and bodily injury when about to board a flight?

mq has a point, too. It also resembles a giant, Amazonian jungle insect whose legs have been severed and body’s been dunked in white paint. At least it would be a deterrent for potential thieves at the airport. Who would want to steal an enormous bug torso?

  5. I like the boarding bag and the website had a nice passport holder. But the upright bag, especially in white, looks a bit Goth for my taste.

  6. I saw one of the bags on display when I was in Brussels Airport and the very last thing I thought was that it was influenced by skeletons! It caught my eye because it was ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS. I am talking about the smallest one you have in the picture there. I think you just need to see it ‘live’ 🙂 The only thing is I don’t know how heavy it is to lift and it’s really important when you’re traveling and transiting and what not.

Sorry for the double comment but it seems you have a tiny purse up there too and that’s NOT the bag I meant was ‘gorgeous’. It’s the bag on the left of that small purse that was beautiful when I saw it.

  8. I wouldn’t travel with white bags in the first place! The boarding bag does have a nice design and I’d use it as a “regular” bag. That thing on wheels, however, is probably going to give me nightmares tonight!

  9. I don’t like the rib cage, it would make me feel like I was pulling Nicole Ritchie around the airport.

  10. Try living in New York on Christopher Street, the Halloween parade route, for 18 years if you want scary! I never thought a loathsome white flight bag could exist. Terror in the skies, where’s Sigourney Weaver when you need her?

  11. i just spent two days flying home from st. barths, including 4 hours waiting in lines to get out of the hellish atlanta airport.. it pretty much made me want to die. so maybe these bags would be a nice little morbid expression of my feelings to those around me. don’t you think?

  12. I like these all, especially the skeletal one. I think they are rather unique and absolutely adorable.I could definitely seem my self with just that one skeletal suit case.
