Longchamp Celebrates 60th Anniversary!

This week La Maison Unique Longchamp celebrated their 60th anniversary (on Bastille Day!), with a party on the rooftop of their gorgeous Soho boutique. The event was catered by Tastings, the catering arm of Payard (which I recognized immediately since I live right by the wonderful Patisserie and Bistro…the downside to fab catering is that I think I gained 5lb…), and was DJd by Paul Sevigny. There was also an art installation by Belgian artist Jean-Luc Moerman produced by Deitch Projects. Jean-Luc Moerman has actually designed 60 bags for Longchamp (to commemorate their 60 years), that all have his signature loops and scribbles. At the event you could get impermanent tattoos to match the art (of note was a bald man who had a tattoo put on his shinny head!). Among the celebs in attendance were Julianne Moore, Susan Sarandon, Brooke Shields, Lindsay Price, Fern Mallis, Robert Verdi, and countless other movers and shakers in the fashion, art, and entertainment worlds. It was truly an amazingly well executed event to celebrate all of Longchamp’s contributions to the handbag industry. See more photos after the jump!

A party shot — truly everything about this event from the food, to the crowd, to the music, to of course the handbags and art on display flowed perfectly.

Besides a bar that served-up endless amounts of champagne and cocktails, servers were coming around with miniature Champagne Pommery bottles called Pop! They stopped carrying the Pommery Pop Rose at the liquor store by my house so I was so happy to see them at the event.

Of course I had to snap some photos of the new LM Collection! Longchamp just recently re-issued their classic LM bags (first introduced in the early ’70s) — what a great way to celebrate their anniversary! This one retails for $770.

  1. Thank you, Sharon! Looks like fun.

I love Longchamp and often travel with one or two tucked in my suitcase in case I buy too much on my trips– I just pop it out and it’s an instant duffel bag!

    xoxo

  2. Never been a fan of these bags but Tina they sound like useful bags to me….i always pack an extra few cases in my cases especially when visiting the US what with the dollar being so good to the pound!! I hope customs don’t read bagsnob =)

  3. I usually carry one of these totes in my bag. If it starts to rain, I´d rather slip my precious bag inside it. Getting wet myself is secondary. Great for doing ordinary shopping too. And these bags really last forever.

  4. Finally Lottie, glad you got them safe and sound-(2 months later lol)they mailed them to your friend in chicago-YES? enjoy them, My Vacay is going well Thx… =)

  5. Yes had to my previous order and get them resent to my friend in Chicago….better late than never!

  6. I’m not a fan of Longchamp. I had purchased one of their leather bags that I hardly used. I finally started using it and it literally started falling apart. I brought my bag into the local Longchamp store here and they offered to call NY for me. I later received a phone call from someone in customer service in NY. Basically their policy is if your bag is over five years old they will neither replace or even repair it. There is no lifetime warranty on these expensive bags. Quite frankly this is the last time that I will every purchase a Longchamp item. I refuse to do business with a company that will not stand behind their product.
