Hermes Vert Anis Lizard Birkin

vertanislizard.jpg

Just had to share, this is such a dreamy bag! It was featured in SATC in the scene where Big shows Carrie her big closet! Here is a movie trivia- they had to hand deliver the bag above back to Hermes the same day of filming, they were only given a few hours to film with the Vert Anis Lizard Birkin. Wow, even SJP’s star power and a big budget film like SATC couldn’t persuade Hermes to change their regulations. Which just makes me heart them even more. 25cm Lizard birkin at Hermes Boutiques– retail around $8700.

  1. Tina I just love the bag…they do a purpleie/pink lizard colour too?! Is the 25cm very useable for day to day or more as an evening bag? I have got my first Birkin coming in Septmeber and I’m already planning what i am going to try and get next!!! I am taking a trip to Paris to collect it….in your experience if I was to ask to order an exotic would they not be so willing?!

Also have you read Bringing Home the Birkin…can’t belive he got away with buying so many do you think he has had an effect on Hermes! Even the bagsnobs has to wait I think!

  2. A very desirable bag. If I would belong to the royalty,no doubt that I´d get it for myself. Please everyone note: I have good things to say about good bags. But since I am just an urban cowgirl,I´ll have to pass this one as well.

  3. Mette…I love your Urban cowgirl comment….you do love the Chic YSL, so how come you wouldn’t carry an Hermes bag?

  4. Hi Tina! Love this bag. Lottie, don’t you find Bringing Home the Birkin a little annoying? When I sat down to read it, I was expecting that dude to LOVE Hermes and to LOVE Birkins, but he didn’t even know what they were in the beginning. It annoyed me. Anyway, Tina, thanks for the bit of trivia. I’ve always wondered they work with SATC. There have been a lot of birkin since the famous Samantha/Lucy Liu storyline. If you remember, Carrie had a blue one when she ran into Heather Graham, and she took a rouge croc to Chemo with Samantha. I have to say, the lizard is the creepiest of them to me. This is only for the reason that it can’t be bigger than 25cm because the lizard itself comes no bigger than that. haha. Of course, I look to my life, and see my baby calf victoria hanging out on my desk. I guess a hide is a hide, right?

  5. Lottie- that purplish color is called Violine- it’s a fabulous shade of violet that I am obsessed with. I have a lizard planner in that shade and plan to get it in a birkin next. I love the 25cm, it’s more than an evening bag– I fit loads of stuff in it, my big Kelly wallet, overstuffed make up bag, cell, camera, etc. It’s a great luncheon and shopping bag, too!

PJH- I love lizard skin for its tiny scales, it’s not as reptile-ish as python and is as smooth as croc. Delish!

As for the Bringing Home the Birkin book- I have not read it though the author invited me to his event not too long ago. I find people like him a total bore. I have been collecting bags since a teenager, Hermes since I was in my early 20’s. I have disdain for people like him who were using the bags to profit and take advantage of true bag lovers. I heard he charged double for the bags or something like that? In any case, he is not worthy of comment and certainly will never be featured on this site.

    xo

  6. PJH…I was completely shocked that he didn’t know about Birkins …but found it fairly informative about the whole scarf thing! I still cannot believe he managed to resell the bags at double the original cost…there is still a person he worked along side selling bags at that cost!!

It is more annoying that this guy found it so easy to get hold of so many bags yet when someone who just wants to enjoy the fabulous bag cannot get there hands on them….how did Hermes let this guy get away with it for so long!!

  7. I think it’s beautiful, I really do enjoy this bag, but the fact that it’s lizard skin… even thinking lizard skin kind of gives me the heebie jeebies.

I know you too (meaning Kelly and Tina) are both good at justifying the use of tropical skins for the art form of stunning handbags… but i’m easily spooked, and the thought of how many tiny lizards were skinned to make that kinda creeps me out.

    It’s still pretty, though! xD

  8. Hi Lisa,

I am talking about editorial regulations. When magazines request samples for photos, etc. Hermes has strict regulations the editorial entities have to adhere to.

  9. if there was ever a birkin i’d feel comfortable carrying (i’m 22) it would be this one. the green lizard makes it look so modern! although it’s kind of a trendy color right now, which is probably not something you want in a birkin… oh well, maybe in 20 years 🙂

  10. hello ladies, i’ve been reading the comments for a while now and this is the first time that i’m posting one myself. first of all thank you tina for creating this fab website. i look forward to checking out new postings while my daughter takes her nap. it melts the stress away when i see a new hermes posting.

what a beautiful bag!!! i’ve got 1 30cm in swift and 1 35cm in togo and can’t wait for one in an exotic skin!!!

as far as the book goes, i’m upset at the fact that it’s people like him who makes birkins even harder to get at the stores and it did not take buying a bunch of other trinkets to get my first birkin. it took persistance and patience. my husband went to hermes 7 times to finally get a birkin for me. they told him that they’re happy to sell it to him instead of someone with a snooty attitude. being nice does pay off. now the sa and us have an understanding that she’ll keep an eye out for birkins that i’m looking for. last request was fulfilled in 3 weeks. so ladies, be nice and good luck to you all.

  12. Hi Camille,

    Welcome!

yes, it does pay to be nice. I have introduced my friends to SAs at Hermes boutiques and they have gotten their birkins within weeks as well. It also helps if you are perceived as a “lifer”. Which means you’re not in it for just a birkin or two to show you’ve got the it bag but a lifelong Hermes collector of all things Hermes. 🙂

  13. Hi lottie: Yes, I do have some chic YSL bags . I live outside a larger town and find these YSL bags quite casual to wear when going to town. The really chic ones I save for special occasions. Were I a city girl, which I´m not, then Hermes would be ok. But just picture me here on the countryside walking the horses and doing all the mocking toting a Hermes.

  14. Tina—This bag is a BEAUTY!!!!

    LOVE HERMES!!!! Just bought yet

    another scarf from them!!! (purple)

    LOVE IT!!!!

  15. hi tina…i love lizard birkins. but i believe the price you quoted was from about 2-3 yrs. ago! with the recent price increase, lizard birkins run almost $ 13,000 after taxes. *boohoo*. i think that’s it for me. no more. but i am certainly lusting over your croc birkin! *cheers*

  16. Camile and Tina….I have done exactly what you said I’m not snotty just a normal young girl with a love of handbags especially Hermes….I bought a Kelly on my first visit to London Hermes….but have not found it easy to get anything that is considered special order? I have chatted lots with the SA and we seem very friendly I know quiete a lot about her and her family so what am I doing so wrong?

  17. hi lottie,

like i said, it took my hubby 7 times to get it and during the 7 visits he did not purchase anything. he did however made friends with the sas and they all pretty much knew him after all those times. however, after the first birkin he bought he also bought me a 34 lindy and a kelly flat. it was at the end of this particular transaction when she asked for my info and what i would like in the future. i told her a 35 birkin in togo leather and within 3 weeks i recieved a call from her. i had just started my hermes obsession in may and since then i can’t leave the store without something in a orange box. bangles are great and i got the dogon wallet on impulse. i felt i should reciprocate the favor she did me. anyways, just keep going back lottie, don’t give up.

ps. here’s a questions for you tina, how should i let my sa know my appreciation for her and what kind of gifts are appropriate? thanks so much.

  18. Hi all,

This is also my first post here. I recently found this site from a friend of mine. I absolutely love it, all the comments and the reviews. I am just a typical twenties gal who loves fabulous bags, unfortunately not an avid collector like you guys since I dont have the money. I can only imagine to maybe one day get a birkins when i am older. But this one looks gorgeous, i love the color, its modern and chic.

  19. I like this particular Hermes bag, the colour is really cute and the lizard skin looks neat. This bag looks somehow young and hip! However, when reading the comments above, I must say I do not understand the mysterious ways and rules you need to follow in order to get the chance to buy a Hermes bag. And Camille, your story of sending your husband to negotiate for you – over and over again – instead of you going after your obsession by yourself sounds… well, a little cowardish.

  20. merit,

being called “cowardish” was uncalled for… let me clear this up. my husband wanted to buy a birkin for my b-day/mother’s day and he went without me knowing. he would drop by hermes whenever he was around the area to try his luck. he had told me how many times he went and the whole bit after he surprised me with the gift. needless to say i was very happy and very appreciative for what he had to go through to get a birkin for me.

  21. I bought a Massai bag last Friday. My SA told me that there was going to be a price incease of 8% this past Monday, so I bought it on Friday. Also, she told me that in January there will be another price increase of 10%.

BTW, when I enetered the Hermes store on Rodeo Drive, there was a Birkin on the counter that had been purchased 10 minutes before I arrived at the store. If I had just been there sooner, I would have gladly traded in my Massai for the Birkin!!!!

  22. Hi Tina,

This is a fabulous bag though I think I prefer a size 35 (for day bags) or if for evening a Kelly Pochette or Kelly Longue will be nice =).

Is Kelly not into Hermes? Don’t think ever saw her posting anything Hermes? But Tina we all know you have GORGEOUS GORGEOUS collection =).

    Have a great day everyone…

  23. Hi Tina – first time posting! I love the color but my favorite is the brown croc w/ paladium. I used to be a Bottega girl but after my son was born I felt a maturity settle in and the need to be an Hermes lady. Luckily I live near an Hermes store, so I plan on starting many visits. My first taste is going to be a Twilly.

Is it unheard of to get an exotic skin for your first bag, even if one is patient? Is it impolite to even ask for an exotic the first time around?

This is the best site, by the way!

    Thanks Tina!

  24. baby lady- it is never impolite to ask for an exotic bag– it is actually necessary 🙂

Camille- I don’t really give my SA anything. I once gave him a massage to a spa and i don’t think he’s used it yet. I think they appreciate people who are willing to buy things other than birkins.

So, my advice to all of you. Start looking at Hermes as a lifestyle brand, not just the birkin bag. Need a hostess gift? They have cute little porcelain platters that do not cost an arm or leg. A scarf is always a welcome gift for a girlfriend or family member. Hermes belts work for men or women. A pair of Hermes cashmere baby booties will be cherished for a lifetime…

I think you all get my drift by now? But don’t buy Hermes things in order to GET a birkin. Learn to appreciate Hermes as a luxury lifestyle brand and go from there.

My first Hermes bag was not even a birkin! I was buying little leather trinkets to wrap around my wrist in my 20’s, I bought a watch, a belt, and other accessories as time went on but a kelly or birkin bag always seemed too old for me until I walked in one day and saw a green kelly bag on the display (back when it cost $4,000). I was in my mid-20’s by then and was a bit intimidated and hesitant to ask about it but the Managing Director (whom I am still friendly with today) was kind, patient and made me feel comfortable. She sat me down and explained the leather, the workmanship, the hours it took to make, the history of the bag, and I fell in love with the bag! Her name is Martha and she is still the Managing Director of the Highland Park boutique and my loyalty to that store is out of her kindness to a young girl who wandered in her boutique wearing Earl jeans (remember those?) and a halter top over 10 years ago:)

So you see, I didn’t set out to make friends with anyone or fawn over any SAs. I was curious and wanted to learn… and it got me on top of the most coveted list in fashion without trying.

But everyone has their thing, it doesn’t make anyone a coward! Sending the hubby is a smart thing to do — makes them feel useful 🙂

    xoxo

  25. i love this bag, everything about it is just perfect–skin, color, size! lizard does not creep me out but snakeskin does (fortunately hermes does not make bags in this skin). my love affair with hermes only started lately, first with a beautiful 90 cm silk carre then a belt, then a picotin bag which i adore. i’m planning to get a bolide, lindy or a kelly pouchette next.. there’s just something about wanting to see your tower of orange boxes go up up up — i know, it’s called obession!

  26. Hi paz, actually– I bought my 25cm chocolate lizard birkin this year and it was priced around there. I think you mean the ostrich birkins are up at $13,000 now.

  27. Hi Tina, What is the difference in price for an ostrich birkin and a croc?

Also I often watch decades to see what gorgeous hermes bags they have and I noticed on the croc bags some have two dots by the hermes stamp and others an arrow does this determine the type of croc used?!

Are you still going to do a post on some of the info you have picked up on hermes…an your collection of course?! Maybe after fashion wk as I’m sure you’ll busy eyeing up the lastest trends and or course sipping belinis!! Oh the Life of Tina Craig!! =)

  28. wow tina, lucky you! i got a 25 lizard kelly last feb. right after this year’s first price increase and it was around $ 10,000! and i cant imagine how much the birkin 25 would be nowadays esp. with the very recent price increase!

but with a very well-made and superbly crafted bag, these are major investments that would last us a lifetime!

*cheers* to you and kelly for a fab blog! i wish i can come to your parties across the nation! with a baby and no nanny, i think im staying home – LOL!

  30. I think the Birkin is a nice clean looking bag. I hate the colour green, just hate it. So as much as I like Hermes I would pass on this one. Plus, I feel bad for the little critter that had to die to become a fabulous bag. I’m so boring, I really just only need one or two Hermes bags and I would be satisfied–one in black and one in white. Hermes, you complete me.

  31. I hope it is okay to contact you. I was researching the lizard 25’s price and I came upon this blog. I have a 25 Violine in lizard that I was to list it on EBay and wonder if you’re interested. Like new, no wear and tear. If you find this email offensive, then pls just ignore me. I don’t go about this usually. I am not a professional reseller either. Thanks.

  32. Wow this site is amazing! I love reading all your comments.

hi everyone! I just got my first birkin last week, my dad purchased it from the Hermes store in Paris.

Its a 25cm Black Lizard Skin with silver hardware. I was really dissapointed because I’m only 20 and i feel its too old for me and not suitable for all occasions. I wanted a 35cm , black, togo with gold hardware.

My dad purchased the lizard skin in the morning and when he came back to the afternoon to collect it he asked the SA if anymore came in and she said no. My dad asked her to check again and she looked up the comp and said ” you are very lucky” cos 5 came in

there was black 35, raisin 35, pink ostrich 25cm, yellow 30 and beige 35. My dad wanted to purchase black as well but the SA said only one each person and they had to register your ID or passport. My dad still chose the lizard one , he said it looks nicer.

I am contemplating selling it online but I am not sure.

Do you guys think I should or just keep i for when I am older?

    Thanks! 🙂
