Marc by Marc Jacobs: Bow Clutch or Mosquito Trap?

marcjbownet2.jpgmarcjbownet.jpg
Please excuse our slow posts this week, I am in Philly and Kelly is in Martha’s Vineyard, we usually do not travel at the same time but this was unavoidable! So, after a day of running around Filthadelphia I feel like I am covered in grime (I love this city and enjoy all the fab restaurants but could do with out the soot). Not in a good mood and came back to hotel to do a bit of work and saw this strange critter of a bag. Since a bow bag is useless in itself, MJ decided to add a mosquito net over it so at least it is functional as a bug trap which would be perfect if you were a street vendor in Phnom Penh (I just read an article about a popular Cambodian snack– Fried crickets and fried tarantulas and I am still traumatized). Its only saving grace is it’s fairly cheap but cheap does not chic make in this case. I know the 80s are back and I do recall wearing a hair bow with net a la Madonna but that memory is best left in 8th grade. Marc by Marc Jacobs Bow Clutch at Net-a-porter.com $250.

  1. Tina, that’s hilarious – if you could produce a picture of you in the 8th grade with your Madonna bow that would be greately appreciated =)

  2. I’m mystified as to how Marc Jacobs has a career.

Tina, the other day I came across two Marc Jacobs clutches (in fluro yellow and pink) with gilt frog snap/locks, and I thought ‘you’ve got to be kidding me,’ and I don’t know the name of the clutches and haven’t been successful in locating them online to provide a link here, but I’m always amazed (not in a good way) that this guy actually works.

  3. Now really-what´s up with this MJ guy? Is he totally nuts or is he testing his admirers as to how far he can go? I am SO fed up that even if he came up with something interesting,I could care less.

  4. I have to agree with Anastasia and Mette- how this guy is working is beyond me and all the idiots who buy his bags are just blind and following what vogue says.

  5. The ultimate in cut & paste designs, as it appears to try too hard to be part-Valentino, part-kitschy, but ends up none-elegance.

Even if given as a prize, I’d be too embarrassed to donate it to local thrift shop, for fear of being judged for my fashion sense, or lack thereof.

  6. i love the fact that the mosquito netting adds about 50% to the bag’s size, like “hey! here’s the ghost of the bag you’re not getting for you money! guess you have to squeeze your stuff into this tiny metallic burrito!” damn you mj.

  7. Wrong wrong wrong! Marc Jacobs is coming up with all the ugliest designs. Not only is his MARC line suffering, so is his Marc Jacobs line!

  8. Hahahaha that’s so funny Tina:) Did anyone else here that crazy music duo Tatu is going to be in the new Russian Marc by Marc Jacobs fall/winter 2008 ad campaign!? So many bow bags lately, I have to admit though I think the Valentino ones are kinda of cute!

  9. i think this is sort of cute in a kitsch way, but i’m thinking $15-20 from H&M. now the frog bag from marc… that’s just gross.

  10. it would look better if the netting wasn’t bigger than the bag and if maybe it had some sparkle to it.

    …. otherwise…. big SAD FACE =(

  11. I can see my jewelry tangled in this, ruining both the bag and the bracelet, ring or whatever. With my talent, I could probably even manage to get earrings stuck in this while wearing them.

  12. I disagree completely. I think this clutch is cute and in this case, very trendy. Paired with a pair of jeans and a plain T of any color makes any outfit stand out. It’s refreshing from the big bags! Also, bows are in, but all I see is pink, reds, solid black – this has a kick.
