WINNER! Oscar de la Renta “Goya” Bag

UPDATE: Congratulations to Liza from New York City— she is the winner of our Goya bag contest! Oscar loved her poetic response to the contest: It was winter. I was a new mother: pale, puffy and filled with self-doubt. Then, the simplest dress: short-sleeved; crew-necked; soft wool; berry red. It was a miracle of structure and forgiveness. In it, I was faultless (at least for a moment). I was also in love.

Oscar also chose 5 finalists who get to ask him a question, Susan, Brenda, Tamara, Alle, Erika–please check your emails! We will need the questions by Monday, August 11th in order to qualify!

  1. The first time I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta was when I saw his profile on Bag Snob. I had always thought of him as a designer for the older set but realized his clothes are quite chic and fun! Please pick me Mr. de la Renta!

  2. I fell in love with Oscar on Sex and the City and seeing that magenta dress on Carrie Bradshaw. The show was probably my first foray into wearable art. That dress was such an impeccable blend of classic glamour and modern whimsy! If only you were giving it away, Oscar!

  3. I am not sure how I happened on your website; however both of you (Tina and Kelly) have a great sense of humor. After you described Mr. De la Renta’s fashion style from clothing to his handbags, I became interested. I first fell in love with his design in this Goya handbag. It is simple yet elegant. Now I know why the SA in Bal Harbor did not understand my request for this handbag, it had not been released! I do not know Mr. De la Renta personally, however, he appears to be a gentlemen, which I admire. And because of this fine trait, I would consider purchasing one of his very extravagant handbags (you girls have a subtle way of talking us into such spending)!

    Thank you.

  4. My mother went to school for fashion design in the mid 1970’s. One afternoon I was looking through some of her patterns and designs – I came across a binder full of Oscar de la Renta clips and spreads. Yeah, he had my 17 year old self at the sequins. Those designs? They still work for today. Timeless.

    Hi Oscar!

  5. When I was 13 years old, my mom gave me the Oscar De La Renta Barbie. I spent hours mesmerized at how sophisticated this doll was. I imagined the time when I would be able to look like this doll of perfection. At 23, the time hasn’t come but when it does, I know Oscar will be there to show me the way.

  6. This Goya bag is actually what caused me to fall in love with Oscar de la Renta (and the world of handbags). The first time I visited this website happened to be when Tina featured this bag; its sleek, chic lines and texture captivated me.

  7. I haven’t actually fallen in love with Mr. de la Renta–I just wanted to comment on how cool this giveaway was 0_o what a bag!

  8. I was in Saks Fifth Ave, when I saw an effortlessly chic young woman carrying an amazing clutch. I was so captivated by it that I stopped her to ask about it. She didn’t speak English, but through vigorous pointing and hand gestures, I managed to get “Oscar De La Renta” out of what she was saying. I later found out that it was the Doheny clutch. I’ve been trying to save up for one of the ODLR bags.

  9. Hi everyone, love your enthusiasm but please– keep it under 50 words!

If you do not see your entry, please re-submit 50 words or less.

    Thank you!

  10. I think that Oscar de la Renta’s creations, both ready to wear and accessories can be categorized as works of art. Ever since my first Oscar purchase about 5 years ago, I’ve been in a constant state of love with Oscar. Such elegance and attention to detail. Te Amo Oscar!!!

  11. Back in the 1970’s, Vogue ran an article about Mr.De La Renta and his beautiful home in the islands. As a logger’s daughter in a small town in Oregon, I could only dream of such a life. I fell in love with the idea of simplicity and taste that seemed to live in the life of the mind; style that didn’t require money, just an education of the eye to appreciate beauty. I would love to own such a beautiful bag.

  12. I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta like so many young girls by reading Vogue. It was a fantasy to see all his beautiful designs and dream of wearing one someday. i have kept up with his collections vicariously and although I do not have the financial means to be outfitted in O, I still have my fantasies and love his art.

  13. Being a handbag whore, I’m aware of the quality master-pieces Oscar de la Renta creates. In Cabo, I ran into a woman carrying this magnificent bag made by Oscar. It was stunning and has been on my mind since. You can’t find perfection like that just anywhere.

  14. I know I’m going to sound like such a dork, but what is and SA??? I’ve been dying to know for a while, and I’m sure someone here can tell me! 🙁

    Hi,

    It means Sales Associate

  15. For me it was his perfume. I always wore his namesake perfume in high school back in the mid-80’s until I discovered his follow-up scent, Ruffles in college. To this day, it remains my all time favorite even though it has been discontinued. Please Mr. de la Renta, bring back Ruffles!

  16. I think I just always knew Oscar de la Renta’s name, but fell in love with his dress along with Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City. More recently, I really loved Jenna Bush’s wedding dress. It is such a elegant dress with perfect lines.

  17. Although I’m not a US resident (how unfair, given this is about Oscar!), I wanted to say that while growing up in Singapore didn’t necessarily give much access to luxury or aesthetic fashion, I associate Oscar’s clothes and clientele with a sophistication that comes from combining a public image with a private identity. I love the tactile nature of his fabrics and design- its controlled contrasts are a metaphor for the diversity and self-assuredness of modern women in their ethnicity, social responsibility, relationship with nature, children and ambition. To me, Oscar’s work is a celebration of being timeless, being a lady who feels like a princess. The singular piece that I consider ‘a statement’ is the bright canary yellow dress with the full skirt and hem of black flowers. I’ve had the runway photo of it on my board for years!

  18. I am a woman from a small town in Wyoming. Just the name Oscar de la Renta represents almost the same thing as the city of New York. They say about New York that if you can make it there you can make it anywhere. If you are carrying an Oscar bag in Wyoming then it means that you have truly made it. Thank you so much for the dream!

  19. Hi Tina and Kelly, didn’t read your comment till later- the abbrieved version below is shorter!

I’m not a US resident (how unfair, neither was Oscar till 1971!), but I loved his bright yellow dress with the hem of black flowers. His clothes and clientele represent the sophistication of public image with private identity. Oscar’s tactile designs and controlled contrasts are a metaphor for the self-assured ethnic, social and ambition diversities of modern women.

  20. The first time I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta is during the episode of Sex and the City (“The Ick Factor”) where SJP told her Russian boyfriend that the description of the “sleeveless silk full-skirted dress with black patent leather bow belt” was pure poetry. The scenes where SJP swoons and later dances with Aleksandr in McDonald’s made the dress (and Mr. De La Renta) permanently etched in my memory…!

  21. Hi, I am not entering the contest, but I have to say that this is indeed an incredible prize.

    The bag is beautiful indeed.

Do you have this bag Tina?

You seem to have everything. How fabulous.

    Lots of envy,

    Britt.

  22. Hi Britt,

I do not have this bag… yet. It will not be delivered to the stores until the end of July.

This is the first time in three years that I have wished I was not the Bag Snob so I could enter to win. I know I could come up with something so compelling that Oscar won’t refuse me 🙂

But since it’s my contest, I can’t enter. Sad!!!

    xoxo

  23. The moment I fell in love with Oscar De La Renta was the evening Penelope Cruz stepped on the red carpet at the 2005 Academy Awards. Dressed in her luxurious buttery yellow gown with the beautiful bow on the back, she was pure perfection! That was the night she became a star!

  24. I bought my first piece in a consignment store when I was seventeen: a mens blazer. I could barely tell Prada from Pucci, but Oscar fascinated me. Consequently, my love of fashion started with that blazer – I fell in love with Oscar, and then I fell in love with clothes.

  25. It was the first time when I passed by Oscar de la Renta’s boutique at Wynn hotel in Vegas that attracted me so. Even though I was only 17 during that december, those dresses on the window amazed me so much that I literally stood there looking at one particular dress. It was a simple black gown. But it had frills on the lower parts, and side pockets. I know I can only daydream because i can never afford such couture dresses. I am just glad that I can tell this directly to Monsieur Oscar de la Renta, and that is good enough for me 🙂

  26. Are you sure non Us residnets can’t enter….we always seem to miss out on some great giveaways!! How generous of Mr de la Renta!

    L.x

  27. As I eagerly browsed the fall 2005 collections when I was 15, I was disappointed that I had not found a collection with a striking, passionate identity. Then, I found Oscar’s collection, and in my mind the models were gliding down the runway like autumn nymphs, fully embodying what it meant to be a woman in touch with all of her senses. Since then, I feel the same; Oscar designs his clothes for women to really feel, to understand herself and the world around her, and I’m in love to this day!

  28. I fell in LOVE with the GREAT iconic of all time ODLR in 2001 when SJP wore that shimmering champagne gown-it just simply took my breath away….ever since then I LOVE everything Oscar!!

    Thanks, Mr.ODLR for being YOU!!!

    B. =)

  29. Dear Mr. Oscar de la Renta

As an inspired new coming designer from Parsons (nearly graduated!), my sister and I have created our company named AIRA from studying several designers, and you were one of the main inspirational designers that we look at. Your attention to details, prints, and embroidery is such a magnificent addition to your sense of style. The combination of colors and prints never fail to link your collection into a piece of art. It’s so fascinating to see your collections every season because they are so inspirational and a great outlook for us while we struggle in the fashion world. I fell in love with your style based solely on the fact that you express human personalities, characters, and emotions so vividly through your designs, colors, and collection. There isn’t any other designers out there that can create such fabulous pieces and still pull it off.

Please pick me to carry your fabulous bag, as I would definitely take it as a gift from a great legendary designer whom I continue to study and love!

    Thanks.

  30. When I was ten, my mother wore an Oscar dress to a gala. She put it on, and in that moment, she became much more than my mom. She looked beautiful, and the dress captured her spirit. It was the perfect dress for the perfect moment.

  31. Goya bag is a beautiful on design and capacious! On the one hand it can seem, that bag is small, but on the other hand it is bright and attractive. Welcome in my wardrobe! 🙂

  32. My first experience with Oscar de la Renta was a life-changing, love-at-first sight gift I recieved from my mother for my bat mitzvah. She decided it was time I matured into a woman in more than one respect, and bestowed upon me a beautiful carry-on bag for travel. Even as a 12-year old, I understood the beauty and tastefulness of the piece and tried to imitate my mother in how I held it and cared for it. As with many of Oscar’s instant classics, the bag is every bit as beautiful now as it was then. It is timeless, somehow being both cutting-edge while remaining clear of the overly-trendy or overly commercial. I hope to grow my collection and one day pass on the tradition and the stunning pieces as my mother has with me.

  33. 1986 when I was first old enough to realize that fashion was more than lots of mascara and wearing short skirts.

  34. i fell in love with ODLR while flipping thru the endless pages of Vogue on my twin bed with my best girls in Indianapolis when I was no more then 12 or 13. dreaming of one day wearing them in a fashion show. Of course we never grew legs up to our ears, so that would never happen!

  35. The first time I fell in love with this Oscar de la Renta product was when I was only 3 years old! My father used Oscar de la Renta pour Lui everyday before he left for work and I always wanted some sprayed on me too! It’s a classic mens fragrance and whenever I smell it, it reminds me of my father.

    Thanks!

  36. This may sound nutty, but I first loved Oscar de la Renta because of the elegant name. It just screams high fashion.

  37. I first fell in love with Oscar de la Renta designs while watching the Academy Awards show. They always announced the designers that created the stars outfits and Oscar de la Renta designs were always the most elegant.

  38. I can’t remember the exact date, but it was in the 70’s. I fell in love with the bags way back then when my mother was carrying them. I vowed that I would have one too, and now I have two of them. I can’t wait to win this contest.

  39. I first fell in love with it through my grandma as a child. She always used to wear Oscar de la Renta, and so it reminds me of her from when she was alive.

  40. wow, I cannot remember that far back, truly..but watching the oscars with all his beautiful dresses and reading the fashion magazines…oh seriously..and they did a specialon him with all his homes…wow, taaste and elegance

  41. I fell for Oscar back in the eighties when I realized that my jeans options didn’t have to be just levis or wrangler anymore.

  42. It was the fabrics. I was 13 and at Neiman Marcus. I was browsing and I happened upon the most beautiful collection of fabrics I’ve ever seen, brightly colored silks, soft wool… It was like I’d fallen into a fairytale. Ten years later, I’m still in love.

  43. Count me in as one of those who mulled, starry-eyed, over every magazine splash of Oscar de la Renta’s fashions draped over the bodies of beautiful starlets, models, et al. I finally had an opportunity to wear one of his designs to a black tie award ceremony when I was 32. I felt like a princess, a glamorous celebrity…I felt that I could dance all night.

Still have the dress…maybe I should get it framed!

  44. I think when I discovered some of his 70’s evening gowns/ cocktail dresses on ebay, so drool worthy!

  45. I fell in love with Oscar when I saw him at The Hudson’s Bay Company flagship store in Toronto, Ontario, Canada back around 1983 or 1985 … I worked at the store at that time. As a person, he’s wonderful and gracious. As a designer – spectacular. What woman could resist a man like this?

  46. At 9 years old, I discovered my mother’s Vogue. I’d put on her lipstick, heels, and sit at her vanity feeling very lady-like. I’d comb through it for my new found love, Oscar; I was spell-bound by the colors, fabrics, and how his clothes made beautiful models somehow more beautiful!

  47. It was winter. I was a new mother: pale, puffy and filled with self-doubt. Then, the simplest dress: short-sleeved; crew-necked; soft wool; berry red. It was a miracle of structure and forgiveness. In it, I was faultless (at least for a moment). I was also in love.

  48. When I was trying on dresses at Macys, looking for something for the 8th grade dance, and I knew that my mother could never afford the beautiful Oscar red dress I longed for.

  49. I am a guy. I don’t know anything about the bags. I hope that I win this bag for my wife. She would be eternally greatful.

  50. I hate to show my ignorance, but the photo about is the first Oscar De La Renta bag I have ever seen, and I love it!

  51. A few years ago – obsessed with all things Sex and the City – I bought a Carrie-inspired Oscar de la Renta robe. It makes me feel beautiful and is probably my most worn item – and no one even sees it! I fell in love the first time I put it on.

  52. I fell in LOVE the first time I actually got to feel one. It’s so smooth.

Thanks for all the great contests!

  53. To be perfectly honest, I didn’t know who Oscar de la Renta was, but I did research him and I think he is a wonderful designer. I love this give-a-way, I love hadbags and if I could win this one, I would be ecstatic. It would mean so much to me 🙂 Thanks for this AMAZING oppuritunity!

  54. I first fell in love with him when a salesgirl in Dayton’s sprayed me with his lovely perfume………….way back when!

  55. In 2003 I was about to graduate high school and I had no idea what career path I wanted to pursue. I had always had a love of fashion but not being artistically inclined I wasn’t sure what avenues I could explore. I remember watching Access Hollywood one May evening for their coverage of the CFDA awards and I was dying to see what Sarah Jessica Parker, my fashion muse would be wearing. She came down the red carpet in the most elegant pale peach gown I had ever seen. I instantly fell in love with the color, the cut, the fabric, and most importantly with the way Sarah Jessica Parker carried herself wearing that beautiful dress. Upon discovering it was Oscar de la Renta, I began to furiously study his work, and fell in love with each piece a little more than the one before, including the beautiful dress that became the focal point of one Sex and the City episode. It was this moment alone that inspired me to apply to FIT, so thank-you Mr. de la Renta. When I first saw the Goya bag I literally gasped as I believe it is the most stunningly beautiful bag I have ever laid eyes on, and I would be so honored to even be in the presence of it, let alone own one.

  56. Wow – that bag would go perfect with my rhino sak! Will you please be ever so kind as to enter me into the drawing?

  57. My mother and I both worked at bloomingdale’s during the 80s so that pretty much explains that. I love going to the Olympus website during NYC Fashion Week and seeing Oscar De La Renta’s show. It’s is always my favorite.

  58. When he criticized Marc Jacobs for being unoriginal! Now that’s a man who’s not afraid of speaking his mind (and designing gorgeous clothes).

  59. I was 14 years old and had the lead role in the school play – Antic Spring. My director thought a floral scarf tied jauntily around my neck would be the perfect addition to my “costume”. When she handed over her floral Oscar de La Renta I nearly passed out!

  60. I fell in love with Oscar many years ago when I was first old enough to appreciate fashion. He continues to be a fashion icon and I really love his style. I am all about shoes, handbags & jewerly.

  61. In the ’90’s my sister got married I was breathless over her fancy Oscar gown. That year, my aunt gave me Oscar de la Renta Eau de toilette for my birthday and I have loved and worn the classy scent ever since.

  62. When I saw his black jeweled box clutch. From the leather trim to the placement of the jewels and the subtle signature on the closure, this bag was crafted out of precision and careful planning. I greatly appreciate Oscar’s impeccable eye for details and organization, which sets him apart.

  63. As a Latina, it was love at first site with Oscar when I saw a magazine spread of him at his home in the Dominican Republic. It was really inspiring to see a successful person who didn’t forget his roots. The clothes, shoes and fantabulous bags are icing on the cake! Gracias por la belleza!

  64. I first learned about Mr. de la Renta’s designs when I started to become an avid Sex and the City watcher. But when I fell in love with his designs? September 2004, when Sarah Jessica Parker wore this beautiful fuscia gown. From then on I have been tracking his beautiful and women-friendly designs. I just wish I had enough money to get a little piece of this wonderful designer.

  65. When I was eight years old, I opened up my first Vogue magazine and there I found Oscar de la Renta — gorgeous, sleek gowns that epitomized glamour and all that I hoped to become as a grown-up. I may not be quite there yet but this stunning bag would certainly make me feel as if I were.

  66. First time was when I saw the picture of one on your site and heard I could win one for my wife. Thanks for the contest.

  67. I was 22, working in sales and my boss had an Oscar de la Renta. I searched for knock offs just so I could be like her.

  68. I had just begun painting when I stumbled upon a French Vogue (lucky me). I was enthralled with de la Renta’s designs. His use of fabric, texture, and color to create an entire item was brilliant. I could see how he sees colors like a painter. Painters see colors and textures in unexpected hues and depths. He sees the colors that most people miss and combines them into works of art. I would love this gorgeous bag! I would especially love to have 5 minutes to ask de la Renta questions regarding his work. One of your best giveaways yet!

  69. I was eight years old and my mom took me for my first trip to NYC. She took me to Sak’s and bought the most wonderful purse I had ever seen. It smelled good, it felt good, and it made my farm wife momma look good. She told me then, ” Always buy good shoes and a good bag and you can dress in flour sack dresses and still look like Park Avenue”. I never forgot it. And I never forgot how Oscar made even a farmer’s wife look like a “First Lady”.

  70. For me Oscar de la Renta has always been about bringing elegance into your lifestyle. As a teenager in 1977, I could not afford the beautiful clothing, but I was able to purchase a bottle of Oscar perfume. I always felt very elegant and sophisticated whenever I wore the fragrance.

  71. This is easy. I first fell in love with Oscar when the scent of this lovely perfume passed by me many decades ago. I have been a fan of not only the pefume but the wonderful fashions of which I dream of owning one day. The handbags are just the topping to these glorious lines. Thank you for being there!

  72. When I was six or seven years old, our neighbour gave me a massive stack of Vogue magazines. I remember very clearly a gorgeous photo of a model wearing what struck me as the most beautiful black dress in the world, walking down a city street. I memorised every detail of that photo–the way the model stood, the buildings behind her, and especially every visible detail of the dress. For a little girl growing up in rural Australia, it represented a glamourous life that I knew I wanted someday. The dress which I so loved was by Oscar De La Renta, and I scoured the other magazines looking for other examples of his work. That day, I fell deeply and passionately in love with Oscar’s work, and it’s a relationship that’s lasted to this day. To this day, whenever I walk down the streets of Chicago, I pretend that I am that girl in the picture, and that I am wearing that fantastic Oscar De La Renta dress!

  73. A little girl utterly obsessed with fairytales, I saw this breathtaking de la Renta bridal dress in my mother’s Vogue. Ethereal, a pale-pearl color, with a flowing gown and a stunning corset bejeweled with flowers at the top. I told my mom, “Here is proof of my princesses and magic”

  74. I FELL IN LOVE WITH OSCAR DE LA RENTA BAG THE MINUTE I SAW IT. THE PURSE IS JUST BREATH TAKING. I MEAN JUST LOOK AT THE STITCHING AND THE DESIGN. COULD YOU ASK FOR ANYTHING MORE PERFECT. IT IS MY DIAMOND.

  75. My first friend, confidante, and the most beautiful woman in the world was dressed by Mr. de la Renta. Only the best was worn by Barbie. She traveled the world and went to balls in her beautiful designer gowns and caught the eyes of every prince in the room.

This is how I was first introduced to Mr. de la Renta, and I have been a fan ever since. I still feel like a little bit of Barbie is in me when I put on my Oscar de la Renta Sunglasses!

  76. Like several other readers, I fell in love with the aesthetic and feel of Oscar de la Renta’s work upon watching Sarah Jessica Parker don a magenta dress that fits at the waist and billows into a full body. Since then, I’ve grown to appreciate the designer’s creation of beautiful, classic shapes that compliment a woman’s body–and the striking range of colors, to boot. I’m thinking of last year’s floral tea dresses in particular, inspiring fantasies of my wearing impressionist art. Thanks for sponsoring the contest.

  77. 1985. I was attached to a military base on the eastern seaboard(US). The base hospital had a gift shop that sold a few exclusive items; Mr. La Renta’s perfume was one of them. It was heavenly! What a luxury to have for myself, a quietly elegant scent with such subtlety. I’ve never felt more beautiful.

  78. I’ve always loved everything Oscar, but when my mom told me about his Dominican heritage and his HUGE heart, I just about fell in love with the man. My heart swells with pride every time I see any of his designs…

  79. I am a purse freak!!! You can’t have enough – would love to add and Oscar de la renta to my collection – thanks for the opportunity!!!

  80. I first fell in love with Oscar de la Renta’s white lace gown several years ago from a Vogue pictorial.

  81. When I was 21 I got to go to fashion week in NY and saw a red leather sleeveless cowl neck dress that he did and I fell in love with not only Oscar but fashion in general so thank you Oscar!!

  82. I fell in love with a Oscar de la Renta gown five years ago and I have been hooked on everything Oscar ever since. Would love to be chosen to win this bag and be the envy of everyone! Thanks for the contest!

  83. The first time I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta was when my mother wore a stunning vintage Oscar de la Renta dress to my graduation. She was the talk of everyone there and made me so proud because my 40-something mother can look so fabulous.

  84. Have never owned anything by him nor have I even seen his products in person. I live in a small town on a limited income so I am not exposed to the “finer” things in life except via the telly. Sex and the City was one of my favorite shows and I loved most of their clothes, shoes, bags and accessories! Can’t imagine owning a bag that cost more than my car, what a hoot that would be:)

  85. Back when I was living in Asia, my style guru is Sex and the City, I immediately fell in love with the pink dress worn by Carrie (season 6) I love how the formal dresses are so wearable!

Bought in May the Cream Pleated Silk Organza Blouse and Cardinal Dip-Dye Silk Faille Skirt…. and now, i cant get the Bow Dress out of my head!

    Git

  86. At 12, I instantly fell for Oscar’s fall 2002 collection. It was so subtle, ladylike, sleek, and GORGEOUS. I knew my future adult self would LIVE in Oscar! 17 now, I’m working my way there; the Goya would be a good start. It’s everything I’ve loved about Oscar’s work!

  87. The first time I fell in love with Oscar, was when I realized that he could get almost $5,000 bucks for a bag he designed.

  88. The first time I fell in love with you was when I was a girl and my Grammy was wearing the perfume, Oscar. The scent was so beautiful and my Grammy wore it well! When the debut of Intrusion came in 2002, I just had to have it. I always think of her when I wear it – thank you for helping keep her memory alive. In addition, you have done so much for children in the Dominican Republic by providing a school and day-care center. You not only are a fabulous designer, but also someone with a kind heart. Thank you!

  89. i first fell in love with oscar de la renta bags when i saw the look on my girlfriend’s face after presenting her with one. I saved for 6 months to afford one, and would love to give her another <3

  90. My best friend used to wear the perfume. It smelled so good! I still remember the coat she wore at the time and the perfume. Also I have a magazine clipping of the cutest white one-piece bathing suit with a black band and black bow tie at the top by Oscar de la Renta. I saved it because it was so beautiful.

  91. The first time I fell in love with Oscar De La Renta will be if I win this bag to give to my wife for our anniversary. She would not mind that I had won it if it is an Oscar De La Renta Goya Bag! She is from a small town of 500 originally so to own something as lovely as this bag would be a real treat. It would make her think she was walking down the red carpet at the Academy Awards. Thank you.

  92. I grew up in Southern California and I loved watching the Hollywood fashions. Oscar de la Renta was one of my favorites.

  93. His class shows thru particularly with his bags. Actually the first time I saw them. Just gorgeous.

  94. They say that your sense of smell is very tied into your memories, and that is definitely the case for me. As long as I can remember my mom has worn Oscar Perfume. It is her signature scent, not only because she is allergic to everything else (really, she is), but also because it has an elegant, classic smell that just is her

Smelling Oscar makes me remember the times we have had together, from shopping together as a teen, to opening my medical school acceptance letter together, to my wedding day. My mom is one of my best friends. We speak nearly every day despite living thousands of miles apart, and I can’t wait to move closer to her again!

  95. The first time I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta was when I was a teenager in the and I used to go through my mothers scarf collection. She owned a few that where so beautiful. She could not afford expensive designer clothing so she splurged on her “finishing touches” instead. She had the most beautiful scarves! My mother has since passed away and her collection has now been split between my two daughters. They now wear the scarves because they are truely timeless fashion!

  96. What I like about Mr. de La Renta is the fact that he contributed a lot of money toward the construction of a school in his native Dominican Republic. Not only a great designer, but a great citizen.

  97. I first heard the name when I was a teenager and the name seemed so sophisticated to me and fashionable.

  98. I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta when I became interested in lingerie. I started believing in romance.

  99. A friend and I were vacationing in Chicago. On the last night he says he has a gift for me. I open the present and unraveled a stunning orange and blue tie. I turn it around and the label reads Oscar de la Renta. My first designer gift and I fall in love.

  100. My mother has always held Oscar De La Renta in high esteem. She has passed those feelings on to me, I think of classy fashions when I hear the name!

  101. A luscous fur trim. Sumtuous floral silk. That was the first time I saw anything of such beauty. Of course it was Oscar de la Renta. Natalia Viodianova was modeling Poiret inspired clothing. From that moment on, I wanted to inhabit that world of elegance, wearing clothes that were chic but whimsical. I would love to start by carrying the Goya bag.

  102. I found Oscar de la Renta at 32 and fell in love with his fitted waists and plunging necklines. This was a man designing for a woman’s body…. for me. It wasn’t so much about how he made me look, but how he made me feel – always beautiful, always sexy.

    gkstratos@yahoo.com

  103. This is my first experience with Oscar de la Renta handbags. I live on a family of four budget and don’t get luxuries like this. This would be a first (and probably a last) opportunity to own a handbag worth more than my current car! Thanks for the chance!

  104. I fell in love with ODLR after watching the Fall 2005 fashion show. Seeing how etheral and sexy these women looked whilst still being classically elegant showed that Mr. de la Renta, and therefore other men, truly appreciated a woman’s body for all the right reasons.

  105. When I was an adolescent, I was fascinated by my friend’s mother. She was so sophisticated and had incredible style. Whenever I complimented her on her clothing or accessories, she always said, “It’s Oscar.” I have known since then, that “Oscar” meant womanly, sophisticated, worldly, glamorous . . . all the things that I knew I wasn’t at that age, but longed to be.

  106. After more than two decades, I could still feel the lingering scent of Pour Lui, not on me but a love in my heart. My deep affection and respect for Oscar de la Renta has taken me to the ravishingly beautiful exhibit at Kent State University Museum in 2007 where I realized I am more than in love with Oscar de la Renta. It was a black and ivory strapless laced gown from the exhibit that I envisioned to compliment with the ultimately artistic and elegant Goya bag. It was truly an awakening journey for me to pay tribute and witness the American elegance which I will never forget and always cherish. Thank you, Mr. Oscar de la Renta, for giving me hope to realize my grand illusion.

    With affection,

    Lady Jane

  107. My wife stared longingly into a store front window in san fransico last august. I saw a lustfull twinkle in her eye as she looked at the handbad of her dreams. A bit out of my price range but she and i both know how beautiful it would look on her arm.

  108. I remember trying on my mother’s Oscar de la Renta dress many years ago and feeling like a princess. To me that is what is so special, the confidence you have wearing one of his designs and the fact they are timeless (my mom finally gave me the dress). Lucky me!

  109. when my daughter showed me the Oscar collection on her new computer. It was the first website she went to!!

  110. On my 48th birthday, 2008, I had a ‘wake up call’ and realized my kids were older and time for myself. Bought some fashion magazines, and fell in love the first picture I saw for his amazing fashion…love at first site!

  111. I just remember that my Granny (still one of the chicest and most beautiful grannies alive today!) had a little bottle of sand-colored foundation on one of the glass shelves of the yellow bathroom. There were tiled swans above the bathtub and for me as a child it was a temple of all things feminine. They sadly don’t live in that dream-house of my childhood anymore but just the name “Oscar de la Renta” takes me back 20 years to my secretive studies of her perfumes and powders. I remember finding the name rather puzzling for make-up as I fingered and compared all of her treasures, and the feeling that I had much to learn about “being fancy,” as she would say to me, and I endeavored to learn 🙂

  112. hello, oscar de la renta es mi disenador favorito desde que naci. toda mi familia es loca con el. yo no tengo dinero para comprar sos articulos.pero todos los dias visito su web site. OSCAR YOU ARE THE BEST DOMINICANO.

  113. I fell in love with him when a very rich man I met in the Bahamas took me shopping and one of the things he bought for me was Oscar’s perfume. I was 20, am now 49, but I still remember the thrill.

  114. The first time I fell in love with ODLR was in Paris. I was with the late, great Liz Tilberis in the lobby at the Ritz. I was delivering clear nailpolish to her because she had a huge run in her nylon. Oscar was there in the lobby and in a gentlemanly manner, he did an eyeglare, pan up and down of me in the lobby holding the nail polish because he admired my “exot-a-rican” look. And at that moment he made me feel sexy and how often do you say that about a fashion designer making you feel amazing and confident about your look and yourself? That’s when I fell.

  115. Gadzooks! I can’t imagine carrying around a bag that expensive. This would, in fact, be my first encounter with Oscar since I don’t imagine we’d ever meet at my usual boutique. WalMart.

  116. How can one elaborate on the kindness and humbleness of this great man? Back in the 70’s I was given a bottle of Oscar De La Renta perfume for my birthday. That’s when the love affair began. His designs are timeless, chic and “oh, so elegant”! There are many designers today in the world of fashion but the name ODLR will never go out of vogue. I can’t tell you how much it would mean to me to own this gorgeous creation. This is something that I would hand down to my grandaughters as an heirloom of fashion. Good luck everyone. 🙂

  117. Oscar de la Renta is a designer whose name has stood the test of time with a name that has consistently increased in popularity and value over time.

Not only are his clothing and accessories at the top of world fashion and rightfully so, they are a great investment that maintains it’s value!

  118. When I was a little girl my aunt let me wear her beautiful Oscar de la Renta scarf. I had been admiring it for days.

  119. Freezing, dreadful day. She ran under nearest roof, a different world, full of light, exotic. She wandered around, enchanted. Something attracted her attention…voluptious in shape, voluptious in scent.Amber and incense envelopped her, mandarine and melon teased senses. She was no longer trembling and cold, she was in love.

  120. The first time I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta is when i read an article in “The New York Times Magazine” about De La Renta’s wife, Here’s the quote “To many, Françoise, who played no formal role in the company, was the secret weapon to De la Renta’s success—forging many of the relationships that created his deep foundation in society. “She is the éminence grise of Oscar”.

  121. Flipping through a fashion magazine, my hand froze at a page depicting a colorful gown that just breathed a vivacious life of its own. It was if the gown enhanced the model or person wearing the gown. It was then that I realized the true art form of design is the life that each piece brings to a collection and to the general public. Since then I have always respected Oscar De La Renta, for raising this awareness. Fashion is like a beautiful butterfly.

  122. As a teen in the late 60’s and 70’s I poured over fashion magazines and I craved anything that was in the trendsetting Gypsy style. My cousin and I would have runway shows for my Mother and Aunt when we would get new clothes or sew something new modeled after the all the new clothes. I fell in Love with Oscar De La Renta then and my great respect and fondess is still responsible for my being a huge fan of anything and all things Oscar De La Renta.

  123. I wouldnt be a good pick to win this bag because I’m sort of an ugly duckling when it comes to fashion. While I always have a touch of envy for those all decked out in the latest fashions, there are more important things in life for me right now. One of my passions is helping underprivileged children. Please don’t enter me to win the bag, but I wanted to thank Oscar so much for giving back where many others don’t and for his work with La Casa del Nino

  124. I fell in love with Oscar De La Renta as a pretty young girl – I remember being mesmerized by the beautiful gown worn by a movie star, and hearing it was an Oscar De La Renta. I never forgot the name.

  125. Like many others I grew up reading magazines and looking at pictures of celebrities and models wearing designer clothes. Oscar De La Renta is an icon. I am from a rural area of Kentucky, I would be the envy of the state with this designer bag. I love your designs Sir, thank you for what you have done through the years for women’s fashion.

  126. The first time I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta is when I read that four women, including First Lady Laura Bush, wore the exact same red, Oscar de la Renta gown to the Kennedy Center Honors. Mrs. Bush was gracious enough to change into another gown but what made me love this designer and his gowns, is that Mrs. Bush still chose to wear this dress in the official First Family holiday photo. To me, the fact that Mrs. Bush was graceful and confident enough to wear the gown in a photo being sent around the world after having it on at the same event that 3 other women did spoke volumes to me…it made me realize that a gown by Oscar de la Renta is special and WORTH what could be viewed as a fashion faux pas. I really don’t think that Mrs. Bush (nor any other woman) would have done this had the gown been designed by anyone other than Oscar de la Renta.

  127. i fell in love with the bag and the woman owning the oscar de la renta at the fashion show mall in las vegas..

  128. I first fell in love with Oscar de la Renta when I was barely a teenager and opened my first Vogue magazine. I have been hooked ever since!

  129. I first fell in love with Oscar in 1985, with an amazing Barbie doll and clothing line! My love of ODLR has never waned; obviously, I treasure my “human-sized” pieces way more! I was floored when I saw the pic of Tina with the Goya bag – it is amazing!

  130. I’m from Europe (Poland) and I’ve never heard about you Sir till I got to TEXAS in 2007, that time – being a “fashion virgin” -for the first time I’ve seen your collection – I remember that I was like “Look at that dress, I mean DAMN!…it hurts!” …too bad I was pregnant that time, sitting with my husband in a doctor’s office, looking at the magazine and dreaming “I wish I could have my baby girl now, because I want to shop badly.” …And I didn’t wait too long 🙂

  131. I was reading through the comments and noticed a couple of people picked my moment– from Sex and the City– but everytime I think of Oscar de la Renta, I picture SJP’s pure elation and wonder what it must feel like to own something so perfect for you.

  132. I first fell in love with Oscar de la Renta when I was barely a teenager and opened my first Vogue magazine.

  133. I was born the same year as the Oscar de la Renta label – 1965. So for me, his designs have always been a part of the fashion landscape. I first fell in love with him in 1977 when I received my first bottle of his Oscar perfume.

  134. It was when my friend asked me to reach into her purse and get her cell phone. The lining was amazing! Then I felt the outside and was like ‘wow, this is an amazing purse!’

  135. I first fell in love with Oscar de la Renta when I saw on TV about his garden in his Connecticut home. When I met him at Marshall Field in downtown Chicago, he said he does have a pond in the garden, and it is really pretty. It is such a pity that it was not shown on TV, he was the nicest person on earth to meet and talk.

  136. i first fell in love with oscar de la renta when i saw his wonderful dresses years ago in a fashion magazine (believe it was vogue, but don’t want to say for sure!). i could never afford any of his dresses, but i always thought his style was glamorous and sophisticated – more classic – than most other designers.

  137. I’m certainly not in love with Mr. de la Renta, but I think his sense of style is stunningly superior.

  138. I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta when i was strolling through South Coast Plaza and i passed by his store. I stopped in the middle of the walkway and almost tripped over my friend when i saw his runway show that was projected on the wall. I couldnt take my eyes off it. I walked inside the store and i was mesmerized by the beautiful flowy dresses coming down the runway and that was when i knew i was in love. i will never forget that day was the first time i touched an Oscar de la Renta gown.

  139. I first fell in love with Oscar while reading one of my Mom’s vintage Vogue magazines. There was a spread on him and his clothing, and I just remember being completely enamored!

  140. There’s this videotape of me at 8 years old being asked what I wanted to do when I grew up. My response was, “When I grow up I am going to move to New York and go to F.I.T. then I am going to move to Paris and do Haute Couture with Oscar De La Renta”.

  141. A true artist has a way of making material represent something more; to represent a person, personality or feeling. Oscar does this effortlessly as in Jenna Bush’s wedding gown. It was simple, yet regal which seems to exactly sum up the President’s daughter. On a more personal note, I wanted to thank you for the work you do with La Casa Del Nino. I am a third grade teacher and you have inspired me to do more. Thank you.

  142. 143. There’s this videotape of me at 8 years old being asked what I wanted to do when I grew up. My response was, “When I grow up I am going to move to New York and go to F.I.T. then I am going to move to Paris and do Haute Couture with Oscar De La Renta”.

(ps. Now, I am 32, a graduate of FIDM with a degree in Fashion Design and while I don’t design Haute Couture I still dream of one day working with Mr. De La Renta.)

  144. I don’t have any fancy stories. It was simply the first time I saw this bag on bagsnob.com. This bag describes everything I want to be–elegant, minimalistic, subtly chic. I enjoy sitting in a crowd unnoticed, but it doesn’t matter because I believe I am beautiful and talented inside.

  145. My wife gets very excited when she finds Oscar De La Renta in department stores. She calls me and the children over to point out its many fine points. She enjoys fashion very much but because of a quite real medical condition has gained weight and is no longer the size most designers make. She doesn’t say anything but I know she would love to fit into real fashion again. This bag is a gorgeous as she is to me and I would love her to have it and have the self-confidence that comes from wearing or carrying something so lovely.

  146. I can’t remember the first time time I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta. All I know is that the spark has been reignited and this bag is gorgeous!

  147. I first fell in love with Oscar when I saw this awesome bag – I can’t say I paid much attention before that!

  148. In 1960 I first saw Jackie Kennedy on our black & white tv, but that dress with its full skirt and low waist cinched with a bow introduced me to the musical name of Oscar de la Renta. My love of fashion began with that dress and remains today.

  149. My love affair with Oscar de la Renta began when I was six years old. I was looking at this beautiful photograph of my mother from the time we were living in La Romana, in the Dominican Republic. My mother shared with me the story behind the photo. She was at a party in 1976 where Oscar was as well. She was wearing a long white dress with eyelet detail, her hair pulled back, with a gorgeous flower in her hair. Oscar paid her a very kind compliment, telling her she was beautiful and had a very elegant Latin look (my mother is Cuban). She remembered how courteous and dignified he was. To this day, that is my favorite photograph of my mother and knowing that a visionary such as Oscar de la Renta acknowledged her beauty makes me extremely proud.

  150. The first time I fell in love with Oscar was when I bought a pair of Oscar de la Renta jeans way back when I was in junior high school. I thought I was the coolest and best dressed in the school. Those were some great jeans!

  151. I saw a gown he designed when reading a fashion magazine of my mom’s. I fell in love with the gown and hoped so much to one day wear one.

  152. Gosh, The first time I fell in love with Oscar whas when I finally figured out how glorious it is to have such a fine bag. Pick me and everyone I know will also be falling in love all over again!

  153. You had me at my first look, Mr. de la Renta!

What a beautiful handbag with such simple, sophisticated lines. The color is exquisite and I would be so proud and happy to be able to carry it.

Thank you for you gift of design in so many arenas!!

  154. Oh Oscar. How do I begin to tell you when I first fell in love? Sometimes love is instant. I feel that way often when I see your new lines. Sometimes it is something that grows on you. At first I was too young to appreciate you because I thought you were pretentious but I realize that you are truly a class act.

  155. When I was only 17 years old, and working in a clothing store, somehow a gold, ruffled, exquisite evening gown had made its way into our latest shipment of designer goodies. I pulled out the gown and gasped. I read the tag – Oscar de la Renta. Wow. This was fashion!

  156. Several years ago, Mr. de la Renta put a yellow dress with a black floral pattern down the runway, and in that moment fashion came alive.

  157. I always liked the dresses of Oscar de la Renta: when I was 15 years I used to follow the dresses that the Hollywood stars were wearing in Red Carpet events, and all of them seem so glamurous… I was really fascinated by how they looked so feminine in Mr.Oscar’s dresses… at that time it was almost totally out of reach…

But to be honest I literally fell in love with Mr. Oscar’s creations while looking for my wedding dress at the beggining of this year! I am from Brazil and I recently moved to NY because I was transferred for work reasons and it was really difficult to be so far of all my wedding arrangements… When my grandma was visiting me a few weeks ago we went on the search for my wedding dress and we had the most special moment when I was trying on an amazing wedding dress from Oscar de La Renta! This is one of the most memorable moments that I have ever had and there was a lot of tears of joy involved: I have never looked so beautiful in my whole life… This moment will be recorded in my mind forever! Thanks Oscar!

  158. The first time was when I saw some of the products in a magazine. Just wish I could afford some of them! Hopefully I’ll be lucky enough to win this awesome bag!

  159. At age 18, I landed a job in a beautiful high-end shoe boutique. As the newcomer, I didn’t earn much. But when I did, my first purchase was a refined, kidskin Oscar pump. I pranced around in them everywhere – around the kitchen, out for lunch. I was in love.

  160. You only fall in love once with a person, and idea, a vision. Oscar has held a very dear spot in my heart when I read about his trip to India several years ago. Eloquent and elegant as always he described what read as a moment of tranquil peace in what must be a neverending lifestyle.

His genteel words described the solemn sounds of Benares, and how he was taken by the acceptance of death by locals, who come to cremate their beloved ones in the Ganges river. I read this around the time I, too, lost someone, but never thought of death as acceptance. Succinctly, he shared how he never saw anyone in India cry (except for a father, who mourned the loss of a child). Til today, I still remember reading about how Oscar shared his secret to momentary peace–one that I took on. A half hour in a church helps him center himself.

Years later, no matter where I travel in the world, I, too, make a point to stop by a church, temple, synagogue, and even one masjid to find that same focus. Dear Oscar, thanks always for giving me a memory to look forward to. Your sensibilities are why I stay in love.

  161. The first time I know the name “Oscar de la Renta” is from one of my close friend, Buzz Lee. He told me when I finish the show of “The Devil Wears Prada”. He told me about some background and information of Mr. de la Renta and really makes me feel interested about you.

Hence, I search about you online and know more about you. I did find all the pictures of your latest season fashion show. I really fall in love with what you design and I must say, everything is just so beautiful.

As I am a bag lover, I keep in touch using bagsnob.com to ensure I won’t miss every single bag in the season. Than, I saw “Goya” Bag. I love in the first sight. The first thing come up my mind is “This is a genius design.” I am more surprise when the designer is “Oscar de la Renta” as I thought this names stands for beautiful clothes but now, when it comes to bag, it is still so wonderful. I’m grateful if I’m able to be chosen to own this wonderful design.

As I must claim that I’m a guy, thus instead of just collecting it, I will gift it for the most important lady to me, my mother. My mum is a bag lover and I choose most of her bag for her. Of course it includes clothes as well. But, I didn’t earn enough to get her a bag from my own effort. Thus, if I’m able to get it. I will gift it to her as her birthday present.

Hence, I hope Mr. de la Renta can give me this opportunity to own a classic piece from you and gifted it to the most important lady in my life. I wish you the best in your life as a person and a designer.

    Regards,

    Harrod Loh

  162. When I was young, I crept into my aunt’s closet, who was always exquisitely styled, a goddess among mere mortals. I slowly ran my tiny fingers across the soft fabric and gazed, awestruck. I wrapped myself in fabric and quietly read: Oscar de la Renta. I felt my heart skip.

  163. I have loved Oscar de la Renta’s designs since the late eighties when I was a teen. There was a short, strapless gown with a pouf skirt that totally hooked me!

  164. Spring, 2007:

    Crimson poppies on a white field;

A tall golden statuette, crisp white

    daisies sprinkled at her feet.

    And now: slate-silken stingray

    Pierces the heart.

  165. Hmm…The first time I fell in love with Oscar was when I purchased from a friend a beautiful silk floral print scarf that I had tied to my fave bag…which sadly was stolen 🙁 This bag is beautiful! And it’s named GOYA of all things! You know how we Puerto Ricans are, Anything that reminds me of food has to be good! Umm and who doesn’t love a man who makes handbags???!!! Not to mention the many other wonderful accessories we can’t live without! I love you Oscar!

  166. To be completely honest, the first time I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta was right now when I saw this beautiful bag. Just now I was stuck staring at my computer screen for at least three minutes! Its like nothing I have ever seen before! Gorgeous!

  167. July 12th 2008

I fell in love with Master Oscar de la Renta’s entire collection from the moment I was introduced to it. Every couture item is a piece of art. His timeless beauties captures the look and feel of luxury. These beautiful treasures should be worn and adorned for a life time.

  168. I fell in love with Mr de la Renta designs, two years back, when I was 13. My mother purchased the most beautiful LBD. And since then, my love for his designs have spread to talking her into buy the Brown Alligator Mini Fairfax bag for me. Yay!

  169. In the mid eighties, I was in my early 20s and finding my own style — Oscar was my man, with such beautiful, feminine designs. On a modest budget, and of course not able to by haute couture, I would seek out similar looks and spritz on his perfume like and feel like an exotic flower among a field of daisies.

  170. When Oscar de la Renta was on Oprah with his family, I realized he’s very down to earth. And, also how much care and attention he pays to dressing the average woman as well as supermodels. His designs are timeless but with a bit of a modern flair. You see everyone from Barbara Walters to Jenna Bush requesting his designs so this has to be proof positive they are indeed timeless!

  171. I never knew Mr.De La Renta because I never could afford anything from his collections but I would be in love with him forever if I win this bag and I would never give that bag up!

  172. I fell in love with ODLR in college….one of my sorority sisters was from a very well-off family and was lucky enough to sport some Oscar!

  173. Growing up in Alaska, my mother’s magazines were the only place to view Oscar’s beautiful creations. Worn by the most elegant and amazing women, I fell in love on an afternoon spent imagining myself in one of his designs, instead of the bulky sweaters worn to brave the cold outside.

  174. I’ve always liked Oscar de la Renta, but being in my twenties working full-time there were very few occasions that I could wear his pieces and not feel guilty about price…so I always wanted to save my first time for Oscar for my wedding….I’m getting married in the most amazing Oscar de la Renta dress! It’s Spanish lace and has a beautiful shape: not poufy, ethereal and elegant…and I can sit and dance in it! My dream came true, I wanted to say thank you to the most amazing designer for my wedding dress: Thank you very much Mr. de la Renta. And if I win the bag, its definitly going with me to the Greek islands on my honeymoon!

  175. I’ve always loved Oscar. As an older woman, not able to afford his beautiful things, i followed him and his late beautiful wife through magazines. This new bag is me. Simple but luxury. I always wanted somthing made of shagreen and to have it be Oscar-incredible!

  176. To be honest, it’s Oscar’s homes I fell in love with – and I’d like to thank him for inviting me in, through photographs. Such beautiful places, they made me dream.

  177. I have always been quite fond of Oscar, but I did not fall in love with him until about a year ago, after seeing so many consistently soigne collections from him. He never disappoints and he never strays from his relentlessly chic aesthetic. I love him for that.

  178. I fell in love with Oscar many years ago but sadly ours has been a love/hate relationship. I love his wonderful products but hate the prices. Someday I hope to make Oscar mine!

  179. I fell In love with an ODLR when I first saw it in a vouge magazine, It was a cluchie I think and it was captivating and stunning. it is the best thing on earth

  180. My sophomore year of high school, we watched a special on Oscar de la Renta in Spanish class, and that was the first time I fell in love with him. I had heard of him prior to watching the show, but hearing about his life and how it influenced his work, not to mention actually seeing his work for the first time was incredible. Honestly, I have never seen more beautiful clothes in my life.

  181. I have fallen in love with Oscar from afar. I am from West Texas and there are so many things that I would love to have but don’t have access to because of “West Texas” (if you know what I mean). I’d love to flaunt this gorgeous Oscar bag everywhere I go!

  182. Today, yes today I fell in love. I searched to discover what was in the heart of a man who accomplished his dream. The story of success, of fame is repeated in every article. One thing he has kept hidden, and it is that I have fallen in love with.

  183. The first time I fell in love with Oscar de La Renta frankly by the time I saw Posh Spice is sporting the phyton bag the other day. It’s a to-die-for handbag!

  184. I watched a style show on CNN in the 80’s. This was my first introduction to Oscar. Even though i couldn’t afford his clothing, i found i could take ideas of Oscar’s wardrobe lifestyle and incorporate it into my own. He influenced my love of the ladylike, feminine elegance that i think defines my own style today.

  185. In 1982, my father remarried the most beautiful, stylish woman I’d known. Together we combed every store aisle in NYC in search of the perfect flower girl dress. We found it in an exquisite peacock blue taffetta Oscar masterpiece, just my size, that transformed an awkward 13 year old into a confident young woman unafraid to walk down the aisle with her father.

That’s the power of an exceptional designer, and why he still holds a very special place in my heart.

  186. A few years ago my wife read an article on Oscar de le Renta in a magazine. It took place at his home in the Dominican Republic and I think Barbara Walters was involved, somehow.Nevertheless, ever since that article my wife has become an Oscar groupie!I’ve heard her talk about him and his designs to friends and our daughters with such reverence, that it wasn’t hard for me to realize how much she admires his work. However, loving someones work and being able to buy it are 2 seperate issues. So,when I saw this beautiful bag on your website I thought I’d take this oppurtunity to win it for her.Anyway,no matter what the outcome I’m sure my wife will remain a true Oscar fan,Jim

  187. For me, it was shopping for something to wear to my son’s Bar Mitzvah. De la Renta just seemed to hit the perfect note of stylish, not too Mom-ish, appropriate for a religious occasion but still party appropriate as well. Its a tough balance but Oscar hits it!

  188. .. when I received his cologne as a gift back in the late 70’s or 80’s. I was only in my teens and never could have afforded such a luxury ( parents were retired & living on Social Security). I transitioned from smelling like a girl to smelling like an elegant woman.

  189. Growing up on Vogue magazine in the 80’s meant one thing: ODLR! His designes (along with Emanuel Ungaro and Valentino) transformed many acid-washed days into fantasy. The closest I’d ever come would be a sample of perfume. He has and will always be my dream fashion designer. Even when Dynasty and other 80’s iconic uniforms took fashion to a costumy level, ODLR kept a classy and sophisticated yet cutting edge sense. For not succumbing to the constant eb and flow of fashion, but for riding its tides, I will always love Oscar. Admirer since 1982.

  190. My dear cousin Greg who recently passed away was the man responsible for teaching me what “true” glamor was. Having been a fashion lover he admired only the best. One of the great men of fashion he often talked about was Mr. de la Renta. Oscar’s designs embody magic, beauty, and romance.

  191. I first fell in love with Oscar De La Renta when I was about 11 years old. (quite a while ago). My mother had received his perfume as a gift from a friend. I was a “tomboy” at this time and pefume was the farthest thing from my mind. But each time my mother would wear his perfume, I would feel safe, secure and in a place I loved to be at. The scent holds a special place in my heart. My mother lives 1100 miles away, but each time I pass a bottle of Oscar, I stop and dab some on, and I feel like that 11 year little girl again, with the smell of safety, security and love for my mother.

  192. My heart stopping love moment was probably in the early 70s. While I was browsing in Neimans Marcus (I couldn’t afford to buy anything), I stopped in cosmetics and there was a tester bottle of Ruffles. It was love at first spritz! I was lucky enough to get a glass vial of Ruffles and made it last as long as possible.

  193. Oscar de la Renta was one of the first fashion designers I was aware of as a pre-teen, buying Vogue to fuel my haute couture daydreams! My grandmother used his eponymous scent and I always thought it was so elegant.

  194. My favorite designer and my favorite color? If I hadn’t fallen in love with the bags on Sex and the City, I’d be swooning now!

  195. His designs are fashion-forward, yet, timeless and can be worn at any age! Quite simply, wearing an Oscar de la Renta makes you feel like a million dollars, even for a simple girl like myself!

  196. I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta when my aunt gave me a silky pink chemise for my 16th birthday. That was more years ago than I care to admit 😉

  197. I’ve always loved Oscar’s beautiful designs and exquisite, unique fabrics. I have to say, I fell in love all over again with Oscar yesterday- when I saw my cousin in one of his gorgeous wedding gowns… She could not have looked more stunning with the biggest smile on her face!

  198. Grandma collected Barbie. She was poor, so designed and sewed Barbie’s wardrobe, based on pictures from Vogue, herself. One Christmas, I saved to buy Grandma an ODLR Barbie. She was ecstatic! I wait with excitement and nostalgia to see the new collections. They are graceful and detailed, just like Grandma.

  199. My mother had an Oscar de la Renta gown. As a little I would go to her closet, unzip the bag that held it and just wonder when I might be pretty enough, grown up enough, to actually be able to pull off a gown like that!

  200. Oscar de la Renta has been my mother’s signature fragrance for as long as I can remember. I am thankful to Mr. de la Renta for creating this fragrance, which will always provide me with strong associations with my mother even after she is gone.

  201. It was when I graduated from “Seventeen” to “Vogue” and began seeing the more stylish and expensive products – the bags particularly Oscar became my all time favorite and I knew that if I had a choice that I would choose to be dressed almost totally in Oscar!

  202. My grandmother had the most gorgeous navy blue Oscar de la Renta evening gown she bought to wear on her first Mediterranean cruise. I fell in love with the millions of sequins and sparkles that adorned the gown and the look on my grandmother’s face when she tried it on for the first time. It made me fall in love with whoever could make my grandmother that happy and feel that great.

  203. The first time I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta was when I first laid eyes on one of his collections, I was 10 and I had never heard of anyone with a Hispanic last name as me be one of the most influential designers to date, it made me believe I could someday be up there with the great ones, he has inspired me to pursue my love of fashion, to go to school in hopes of one day be at least as good as him. 12 years later I still admire him and look up to him not only as designer but as an icon to the Latin community, a person that influenced not only my style but my mother’s and my grandmothers style as well, and hopefully when I have a daughter she will influence by Mr. de la Renta as well.

  205. the first time i heard ODLR, was on Gidget. i was 11 yrs old (1984 and a new immigrant to the US and to the language)- it was a beautiful pink chiffon/organza dress that her father bought her – i loved that dress! i only dream of such a dress, even today….the 2nd time was in 1999, when i was getting married, i wanted an ODLR wedding gown that i saw his step daughter eliza wear…deep v-neck, sleeveless lace, fitted and flawless dress. i instead bought a $70 gown & put 4 cousins through college. worth it, but it’s always good to dream! great new exotic accessories & ad via bagsnob, they are brilliant & the future!xo tzucker

  206. When I saw Oscar de La Renta’s black and white dress in Vogue, I just HAD to tear it out and frame it. I have that dress on the wall in my bedroom. I will never take it down, as it inspires me every morning.

  207. I saw deep orange burning into scarlet as violet embellishments crept up the bodice of a dress from your spring 2005 ready-to-wear line. Bold but not loud, sensual but not overt, at 20 I became an aficionada. Later, spending summer in Madrid, Granada, Barcelona, I saw your work wrapped around Mediterranean women everywhere. I was sold.

  208. I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta 40 years ago when an acquaintance was wearing the most amazing dress and looked beautiful. It was the first time I had seen an actual dress from Oscar. I have always wanted something from Oscar de la Renta to be able to feel beautiful, too.

  209. Dear Mr. De La Renta

    I could never forget ya,

The first time I laid eyes on that exquisite black dress,

As it fit perfectly on a famous movie actress,

Indeed, Ms. Garner looked absolutely gorgeous,

It was pure classic- the style, the cut, the color

You never cease to amaze me, Mr. Oscar

You’ve certainly outdone yourself with the Goya

Oh my…its shape, its style, its uniqueness

Thank you for your talent and creativeness

you will go down in history as a man of pure Brilliance!

  210. I am not eligible to join the contest since I am not a US resident but since Oscar will read these comments personally I would still want him to know how I fell in love with him:

My aunt gave my mom an Oscar perfume before and it was stolen. I saw her cry over the perfume, I didn’t understand why. Now his creations are dreams I can’t have since I can’t afford his “art”, probably not today but someday, At least now understand why mom cried.

  211. A few years back, I fell hard for an intricately studded fur and leather motorcycle jacket unlike anything else I’ve seen by ODLR. Every Fall since, with every wear, I fall in love all over again. My daughter can’t wait to get her hands on it. Oscar, you’re the best!

  212. i believe i fell in love with oscar de la renta when i was a kid almost 30 something years ago. i always wanted to buy his clothing. i think i remember owning a pair of jeans from his line of clothing when jeans became popular like gloria and calvin. even though now i haven’t did much purchasing of fashion because i became sick and really can’t afford to, but i love that oscar’s has style and fashion has matured like fine wine. i still marvel when i gander at fashion books and it takes me back to the thoughts of being a teen thinking i was so hott in oscars’ jeans!!

  213. Since Jackie Kennedy, I’ve admired the artistry of Oscar De La Renta. His work is the essense of style, the epitome of feminity and therefore, is just timeless.

  214. I fell in love with Mr. De La Renta like a lot of girls – every time my Vogue would show up in my mailbox. My love was taken to new heights thanks to SJP and Sex and the City. Mr. De La Renta you are an inspiration!

  215. Fell in love w Oscar at 17. His “estilo” as we say in the DR is timeless and unparalleled. He’s able to combine in the most extraordinary and flawless of ways his Latin gallantry w/knowing EXACTLY how to speak to a woman thru his designs. He whispers a devoted lover’s touch into each piece he designs.

  216. I’ve like ODLR since the early 80’s just from the fashion magazines. Then the president’s wife, Mrs. Bush, looked so good in his creations that my admiration grew even more.

  217. I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta at an early age when my mother gave me my first perfume at age 13 – that beautiful flower-shaped bottle is a memory I will never forget. After she passed away two years ago, I found another bottle in her memory.

  218. The first time I fell in love with Oscar De La Renta I was a 14 year old with a style (a fairly insane, and super vintage inspired style, mind you) and was shopping at my favorite ultra-trashy vintage store in Baltimore, Maryland. I was obsessed with anything and everything polka dotted and laid amongst a pile of discheveled and cheap nylon scarves I found a gorgeous and quirky black and white polka dot scarf (Oscar De La Renta, of course!) I wore it on tons of adventures and have loads of very fond memories. :O)

    Samantha

  219. I remember my grandma’s Oscar de la Renta perfume when I was a little girl, back in the 70’s. Today, I love smelling it, it reminds me of my grandma. I miss her very much.

  220. CNN used to have a fashion show hosted by Elsa Klench Saturday Mornings and I fell in love with that show and all things designer. I can remember many pieces on Mr De La Renta and the elegance of his collections. When I look for designer items Oscar De La Renta is one I hope to find.

  221. The first time I fell in with ODLR was when I was in Paris and I met him with my boss, the late, great Liz Tilberis who was editirix of Harper’s Bazaar. We all met in the lobby of The Ritz. i was delivering clear nail polish to our fearless leader because she got a huge run in her nylons and that was the type of thing you always needed on hand and something that was part of your job description. Anyway, he was in the lobby and in a gentlemanly manner, he did an eyeglare/pan up and down of me in that lobby, holding the Sally Hansen because he liked my exoti-r-ican look. (He told her that later-which made me feel better that he wasn’t laughing at me!) And at that moment,he made me feel sexy and how often do you say that about a male fashion designer making you feel amazing and confident about your look and yourself. And that’s when I fell.

Long as hell but I’m 43 and i need more air…

  222. My love for Oscar’s designs has been growing for a long time, but it peaked this past year when I came across the most beautiful wedding dress I have ever seen. I knew instantly that it had to be a de la Renta design. Its lines were both clean and feminine, and it modernized florals with a gorgeous, graphic, oversized eyelet-embroidery pattern at the bottom of the full skirt. That dress would be a dream to wear, but it is an inspiration in itself. I have not been able to stop thinking about it since.

  223. When I was getting ready for my first school dance, after getting all dressed up, something was missing. My mother took out her Oscar la Renta perfume and put a tiny spritz on my wrists and neck. It was the first time I ever felt beautiful.

  224. I fell in love with oscar when I seen this bag, I have never seen one until I came across this give away and I have never seen anything oscar de la renta and probably never will , lol

most beautiful that I have seen though.

good work and thanks for giving one away.

  225. From the time I was a little girl, my mother always had a few key pieces that she wore for years. To me, these timeless yet innovative pieces still embody essence of style.

  226. No matter who you are, Oscar is always right. It’s bold, daring, safe and classic. The epitome of a woman. I love Oscar.

  227. I had a small beach wedding with my dearest friend as my sole bridesmaid. I told her she could wear whatever she wanted and she chose an amazing concoction in nude, with tulle and feathers … and it was Oscar. I can’t think of anything more fabuous than her walking out ahead of me barefoot in the sand in that dress.

  228. The first time I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta was when I was 8. Our Brownie Girl Scout troop took a trip to Beverly Hills (We loved the movie Troop Beverly Hills). Saks Fifth Avenue gave us each a sample of “Oscar” and that smell forever reminds me of that day.

  229. The first time I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta was the night before my wedding. That night, right before I went to bed, my mom gave me a stunning pair of Oscar de la Renta earrings to wear on my wedding day.

  230. About thirty eight or thirty nine years ago I was shopping at our premier department store L.S. Ayres in Indianapolis. I would always take a look in the Designer section even though I was a young married and on an allowance. To my surprise I found the most wonderful Cocktail Suit in my size (8) at the time and on sale! It was so beautiful Brocade-Black, Rose and Turquiose Jacket with a Black Velvet Skirt. I had to have it!!! I am sure I told my Husband when the charge came in that it was for two outfits! I kept the suit for years and years even thought I had changed sizes. You are still my fav!

  231. The first time I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta was recently, at Saks Fifth Avenue, I saw a piece from his Spring-Summer ’08, a black sheath with an incredibly tastful bow on the bust, and although, I had seen many of his clothes in magazines, seeing one “in the flesh” made me realize what a truly amazing designer he is, being able to create something so incredibly simple, yet so original and beautiful.

  232. Oscar de la Renta… Oh, How I Adore Thee!! My first introduction to his world was at quite a young age. I watched my mother shop and shop every weekend for almost half of my life. Being 23, you never really understand the true beauty and fashion of designer chic at a young age, but now, I would give extremities to have half of the clothes my mother had then. From perfume to over-the-top party bags, she was my first introduction to the world that I will never let go of. Hopefully, I will be able to introduce my future daughter(s) to Oscar the way my mother introduced me.

  233. I’ve always been mesmerized by Oscar’s creations. His talent is phenomenal. Oscar maintains magnificent quality. His vintage gowns transcend fashion eras by presently attending the Oscar’s. No matter the latest trend(sequins, beads, belts) he always adds the glitz that catches your attention and screams “That’s the one!”

  234. My boyfriend Justin and I were shopping at Macy’s for my stepbrother’s upcoming wedding. Unfortunately, my boyfriend is the skinniest boy imaginable, with very small shoulders, so finding a suit for him was beyond difficult. Finally we found an Oscar de la Renta suit that fit him beautifully. I had never seen him in a suit before, and I was blown away and couldn’t stop staring at him. That’s when I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta, and also my boyfriend all over again. Ever since, I’ve always noticed in magazines how beautiful and sophisticated Oscar’s clothing is, both the women’s and men’s collections, and have wished I could afford it. Hopefully, someday, I will.

  235. I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta when I saw that Goya bag! I have not previously been very familiar with this designer.

  236. Looking at a 1977 National Geographic i found a small picture of Oscar in his Casa de Campo home. There i understood the perfect cohesion between his lifestyle, his vision, and his clothes. I’m young and my affair with Oscar is still recent, but it’ll only take time to bloom.

  237. I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta when I saw my mother put on one of his pale white bustier dresses from the eighties. i remember her getting getting ready in the bathroom as i was playing with her makeup. i couldn’t believe how gorgeous the dress was…low and behold, i later found it it belong to my grandmother who gave it to her and i just wore it to my wedding reception.

  238. Well I guess I am the first men saying I found out who Oscar De La Renta was from a song name …Mi Primer Millon… Well if I win the bag I will give it to my mom she deserves it. How do I get a job with you Oscar I am a young fashion designer ready to be discovered. I mean I can type it in Spanish but I think he understands ….

  239. I have always been interested in fashion. As a boy at the age of 5 I seen the perfect bag that someone was carrying on the red carpet. Not sure as to who carried it, but always kept in my mind the name of the designer was Oscar de la Renta.

  240. Oscar de la Renta has the classic aesthetics that resonate in his fashion from clothing to accessories as well as keeping it modern. The blending of high fashion and wearability made him an instant favorite. The first time I remember the name is wearing a suit, when I was younger. The suit has transitioned to cologne, which smells quite nice. Thanks for being a true fashion icon and adaptive to the times without sacrificing your integrity.

  241. Oscar De la Renta always brings to mind beautiful frenzied fantasy. During the 80’s I bought all the magazines covers and photo editorials I came across by this talented designer. During the 80’s Oscar was a huge influence and I fell in love with his perfume. Very sexy and definitely made for a woman. Love Oscar.

  242. A friend in college had a beautiful Oscar coat. She would often come and let me play in her closet. Twirling in front of her mirroor, I would feel like such a lady in her embellished coat and I knew that de la Renta meant class and style.

  243. “The fairy tale evening looks with spangled tulle and satin were just breathtaking!” That is what I whispered to my friend at Oscar de la Renta’s Fall/Winter collection at New York Fashion Week 2004. THAT was the moment that I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta!

  244. The first time I fell in love with Oscar De La Renta was when I saw that amazing hot pink and black dress on season 6 of Sex and The City – the one Carrie shows to Aleksandr Petrovsky and then he buys for her. It was just gorgeous!

  245. I’m a Spaniard, born in Madrid who lives now in Barcelona. In the mid-nineties I was living in the USA, and I discovered then Mr. de la Renta designs. I loved his gowns and the things he designed for the House of Balmain. He was an apprentice with Cristobal Balenciaga, Spain’s greatest designer, and I think that shows a lot in his work.

Also, as many pointed out, I loved SJP pink cocktail dress, and more recently the red and gold dress Infanta Elena of Spain wore for her cousin’s birthday. It made her look like a Velazquez Infanta!

  246. I have no specific one that I really love from Oscar de la Renta, but I love most of his creations because they’re all beautiful! too bad that I can’t afford any of them.

  247. Growing up with very little, I did not even know who Oscar de la Renta was, let alone have access to his work. As I became more successful in my life, I became more attracted to status…a fashion victim, if you will. I suppose I fell in love with Oscar when I finally realized that style and class were not about status, but about quiet and simple beauty. It was Oscar who taught me that it was ok for a woman to look like a woman; to be feminine and successful and powerful all at the same time was indeed attainable!

  248. The moment I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta is when I tried on the Foo Foo Dress, a prefect dress and made for a woman .Thanks Mr Oscar de la Renta for knowing a woman’s body, she has curves.

  249. Sadly, I have only loved Oscar De La Renta’s handbags from afar. For many years, I swooned and secretly wooed his creations through a 5th Avenue window. Although rejected time and time again, I kept going back to covet what I desired most. One day, I was brave and I finally made the first move. I desperately wanted to take this gorgeous specimen out on the town! However, once again, I had to walk away brokenhearted with the realization that she was out of my league and no matter how much we loved each other, I just could not afford to be with her. Maybe some day…

  250. I may be more comfortable in jeans than couture, but I truly appreciate Mr. De La Renta’s respect and appreciation for women so evident in his collections. The Goya is ladylike but a little edgy, modern but somehow classic, youthful yet also ageless…I would love to carry her!

  251. The “Sound of Music”- I loved the girls running in curtain dresses. Oscar Spring 2008-amazing olive Starry Night prints- so inspiring of the movie. Being a new mother, I have grown to be a woman who can sing around the fields in an Oscar dress with my children.

  252. Dear Mr. Oscar de la Renta,

Oscar, I am in love with your generous heart. 9

The possibility that I might be able to carry your unique and exotic “Goya” handbag will be a dream come true. 21

I’ll be thankful to hear you chose me to proudly own and carry your gorgeous handbag. 16

    Bless You,

    Gwen

  253. This is a beautiful bag. It is truly a classic and classy. I have never had the privelege of seeing any of Mr de la Renta’s designs in person, hopefully, someday I will!

  254. I’m not actually sure that I am. Designer clothes and bags were never part of my life growing up. I am actually hoping to buy my first designer bag this year (hence the vehement web searching for that perfect bag).

Up until now I was more worried about making my tuition payments, but this spring I finally graduate from Harvard Law and with that accomplishment I guess I’m hoping to graduate to a lifestyle that I once only dreamed about. So I may not love Oscar de la Renta now, but who knows what might happen in the future.

  255. THE FIRST TIME I FELL IN LOVE WITH OSCAR WAS BACK IN THE LATE 70’S WHEN MY FATHER GAVE MY MOTHER OSCAR PERFUME FOR CHRISTMAS. IT HAS BEEN MY VERY FAVORITE FRAGRANCE EVER SINCE. I’LL NEVER BE ABLE TO AFFORD OSCAR’S DESIGNER CLOTHES BUT THE BOTTLE OF OSCAR THAT I KEEP IN MY LINGERIE DRAWER ALWAYS MAKES ME FEEL DRESSED TO THE NINES.

  256. I have loved Oscar’s clothes since I was a kid watching runway shows on Elsa Klensch’s program on CNN. Given all the crazy stuff out there masquerading as fashion, it’s heartening to see someone still making beautiful, flattering, ladylike clothes.

  257. I fell in love when I started browsing handbag blogs… It seems de la Renta is old hat to everyone else here, but to me it’s all glorious and new!

  258. Oscar. With twelve

    days still left, you are

in for quite a lot of

    reading with 308 posts.

    Anyways mister, as a gal

who is in dire need of

    working in the fashion

    industry…your

    fabulous dress that Sarah

    Jessica Parker wore in the

last season of Sex and The City

    had me SIMPLY lusting

    after your designs. Delishhh.

  259. I absolutely love simple classic handbags that can be carried for the next 50 years. I usually stick to the Epi line of Louis Vuitton and Chanel but when I saw Oscar De La Renta’s Metallic Python Doctor Bag on Victoria Beckman, I just fell in love. I have been saving up for one. Ever since I saw this bag, I have been a huge Oscar De La Renta handbag fan. Both this purse and his Doheny Oversized Clutch are on my birthday list which is in August. He is an true fashion artist.

  260. Although barely middle class, my grandmother had impeccable taste. I first fell in love with Oscar de la Renta through her old “Vogue Americana” sewing patterns. Together we dreamt about someday buying the real thing, and we imagined what fabrics he would’ve used and how they would’ve looked on us.

  261. I have to say that first I fell in love with the name and then when I saw the fashions and other items I fell in total love. He has the passion for fashion. I would love to win this bag because “GOYA O’ BOYA” is it beautiful and I do not have this color or style in my wardrobe. Oscar de la Renta and the 70’s were terrific and have fond memories. I lived through the fashion with Jackie Kennedy. What style and grace and she really made his clothing look top notch. 😉 Thanks.

  262. Oscar de la Renta is the only designer whose prêt-à-porter looks like haute couture. I fell in love with his creations when I first visited his website. I watched all the videos of his runway shows and felt transported to a world of rarified elegance. Magnifique!

  263. The first time I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta was when I was at my first trunk show. It was his fall collection of 2003 (I think!) (it was the year that Sandra Bullock wore his white gown to the Oscars – the dress with the two rows of feathers). It was the most fabalous gown I have ever seen. I am trying on clothes at this trunk show in Denver and I see the dress in black. I knew the minute I tried on the dress that I truly understood the detail, fit and exquiste style it took into making his creations so special. I truly felt like a princess! I ordered the gown in white and everytime I look in my closet and see that dress I feel privelidged that I owe it and can remember what it took to create this truly incredible piece of art! I am planning on wearing it on my 20th anniversary to renew my vows on Lake Como! I can’t wait!!

  264. I am amazed at his ability to create classically stunning styles that make even the most average woman feel show-stoppingly beautiful. Impossible to name the “first time” but most currently I am drawn to Paltrow’s May Vogue cover. Gwyneth has always had this “Wonder Woman” persona which he beautifully captures.

  265. Falling in love with Oscar de la Renta was due to a stroke of luck.

Sure, I’d seen his gorgeous dresses and handbags, but wasn’t a fan. Then, in 2007 I landed tickets to Fashion at the Park! in Dallas. I went, loved the show, and am hooked ever since.

  266. Fifteen years old visiting from far away, with a love for art: I found myself lost at the Met amidst Jackie Kennedy’s collection of perfectly tailored garments. It was the precision; prestige and aura of each piece that made me fall in love with Oscar de la Renta.

  267. I first fell in love with Oscar during the Christmas of 2006. I was not a fashion buff at the time but Oscar’s design came to my attention when the first lady and three other women all showed up at a White House function wearing the exact same Oscar de la Renta gown. The incident was funny and the dress was amazing. I have been hooked on Oscar ever since.

  268. I first fell in love with Oscar de la Renta when I saw some of his lovely pieces in the Ebony Fashion Fair when the show came to my hometown in Indiana. Such glamour, right in the middle of the inner city! I’ve never forgotten that.

  269. A lot of my relatives who had not heard of them fell in love with him after hearing his story about going to India. I fell in love with him when I got a little oscar bobblehead back in 1985 when I was just a kid!

  270. I don’t love bags, but hopefully the woman I would give this to would love me as much as she would the bag. 🙂

  271. Oscar de la Renta, to me, epitomizes what I strive to be-classic, fabulous and chic. My goal as a girl growing up was to be a fashion designer, and I was obsessed with fashion week, which is how I was first introduced to styles by Oscar de la Renta! (Although I never was able to see anything in person.) We could never afford anything, but I dreamed of one day being able to own somehthing by him. Maybe this contest will be able to fulfill my dream!

  272. I grew up poor and never had the chance to own anything Oscar de la Renta and I don’t remember when I first heard about him because I was wanting and wishing for so many thing’s that I knew I could not have. I’ve been to the Mall a few times in my life to see his work but can not afford it, so all I can do is wish and hope to win this giveaway, and if I don’t win, “Congradulations!” to whom ever wins this gorgeous bag! I will get my chance someday, hopefully.

  273. I love that Oscar does what he does because he truly enjoys it! You can really tell by the beauty he creates!

  274. The love affair began with Carrie Bradshaw in that warm guava-flamingo gown. The perfect pink and the mirthful flounce of a skirt sprouting just under the navel had me thank God for making me a woman, and thank Oscar for making the sexism and the PMS worth bearing.

  275. First Oscar brought us the law: “A woman makes an outfit her own with accessories.” Then he gave us the accessories.

The truest love between man and woman is rooted in shared values and a gorgeous handbag.

  276. At 14, shopping with my grandmother, I told her she smelled wonderful. “It’s Oscar, darling,” she breezed. We promptly found her favorite boutique and spent the afternoon trying on Oscar dresses. Of course, I couldn’t keep one! But next to my wedding day, it was the most beautiful day of my life.

  277. Oscar fragrence for Men. My first huge crush wore this.

I kept stopping at the store to smell it! It was heaven!

Have never liked another mens fragrance since. (I don’t tell my husband that)……

  278. Ten years ago in college, I bought an Oscar de la Renta black bra and fell in love. Though it’s a size too small now and I no longer wear it, it’s the only bra I keep around just for the memories. It truly made me feel sexy.

  279. Twenty years ago. Still had a thing for Barbie at the time.. and my doll had an Oscar de la Renta dress. 🙂 The dress was a little over the top and I remember thinking, “Who actually has a name as pompous as Oscar de la Renta?” and “Who would ever wear a dress like that in real life?”

What can I say, I was eight at the most. And stayed in a small city in Malaysia to boot.

Years later, when I was all grown up and actually knew of Oscar and his work… I had a good laugh at my eight year old self.

I hope you continue to inspire the world for a long long time to come, Oscar 🙂 xxx

  280. I honestly can’t remember when I didn’t love Oscar de la Renta. As a teenager during the 50’s I saw so many stars wearing Oscar’s gowns and they were so elegant and gorgeous. I can’t ever afford to buy, but I can certainly hope to win this beautiful Goya bag.

  281. The first time? A lavender, 3-layer silk chiffon skirt, circa 1970’s. The top layer was sort of scarf-like and tied at the front and back of skirt – thank you Oscar! FABULOUS!

  282. I have always had a love/hate relationship with my body. I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta when I was ten years old and my mom had purchased me the prettiest bra I ever owned. Thank you Oscar for helping me love my body!

  283. The first time I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta was not to long ago. I use to be over 50lbs overweight. When I lost the weight and went shopping for a prom dress I could not find anything and hated everything I tried on. It was not until I tried on a yellow floral gown from Oscar de la Renta did I realize how beautiful I truly was. I felt like a princess and never felt that happy with myself before!

  284. The moment I saw photos of Oscar’s magnificent creations–I was hooked! As a police officer, (who also happens to be a girly-girl) I am usually wearing a boy-ish uniform, dreaming of getting dressing up, carrying a delicious bag and wearing the perfect pair of stilettos.

  285. Being a Narcissistic Exhibitionist, I cannot fall in love with designer at fashion show. I try his masterpiece, and KNOW he was having ME in mind when creating it, because I look more beautiful than anything imaginable; – this is when love happens.

I was 26, and Oscar was The One.

  286. I was smitten after seeing his Spring 2004 ready-to-wear collection. That was the first time I had admired each and every look of one designer’s collection so much. Mr. de la Renta’s works showed me that a dress wasn’t merely a dress, but a poetic rendition of femininity and grace.

  287. Hi Oscar Love your style and detailing. I fell in love with your style while watching Sex and the City. Only then did I realized how much of a fashion line you created. The new Goya bag is great your creative style shows. Thanks so much for the giveaway.

  288. I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta when I was a little girl – my dad worn the cologne – what a great memory now that he is gone.

  289. I fell in love with Oscar this past year while living in the Dominican Republic. I was wholly enamored of his country, and read that he maintains a small stretch of beach chairs on a truly wonderful beach in the north. I don’t know if that is true, and did not have the chance to visit the beach in question myself, but fell in love with the idea of Oscar maintaining this idyllic line of chairs for his use as well as others.

  290. Oscar, I’m falling in love with you right now over this gorgeous Goya. It is truly the most sophisticated, luxurious, and sexy bag I have ever seen. Consider me converted.

  291. I first fell in love with Oscar de la Renta when I was a young girl, at my mother’s side. She used to own a boutique in a small town in Canada, and I accompanied her to the Fashion Market to pick her collection for following seasons. I’ll never forget the feel and quality of Oscar…

  292. He is such a style and fashion icon. I love everything he has done, and I consider him the king of all that is stylish.

  293. I received as a gift and I fell in love with the bag. I love the sophisticated, luxurious and style Oscar designs.

  294. I’ve loved Mr de la Renta’s designs since the early or mid-90’s. An episode of ‘Style with Elsa Klensch’ showed one of his collections, and it was all gorgeous, especially a flowing gold (shantung silk?) dress modelled by Helena Christensen. I covet it to this day.

  295. Many years ago, my parents had a special formal event they needed to attend. Dad took Mom shopping and they came home with the most gorgeous gown that I had ever seen. Mom looked like a story book princess and I can remember her smiling and telling me, “It’s Osca de la Renta.” I was hooked then at the age of 9 and still am hooked at 53. I would love to give this beautiful bag to my wonderful Mom.

  296. The first time I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta was when there was a thrift sale for charity in Tampa, FL. The clothes were donated by the woman of society and the funds were used to sponsor their charities. I found an Oscar dress that fit me and looked fabulous. I loved that dress and if it was not for that event I would never ever been able to afford one.

  297. I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta was when there was a thrift sale for charity in Tampa, FL. I found an Oscar dress that fit me and looked fabulous. I would not have had the chance to own such a fabulous dress if not for that event.

  298. I fell in love the very first time I saw Oscar de la Renta. Timeless beauty, with a hip twist. Classical, yet sassy and fun. Makes every outfit look its very best, and I feel like fashion genius, knowing my Oscar de la Renta bagis a fashion statement all by itself

  299. I have always appreciated the timeless, elegant yet modern style that is Oscar de la Renta. But I fell in love completely & without reservation when I saw The Chair. It is an English Gentleman’s Library Chair (aka a cock fighting chair). It’s shape & color haunted me. I didn’t just love it, I lusted for it. I visited that Chair for weeks until the day that I couldn’t leave it so bought it with my rainy day savings. When I divorced and moved, The Chair was my centerpiece & all decorating in my townhouse started from there. My bedroom is by Oscar, as are my baths. When ever I want something to last & always be fashionable, I look for & buy Oscar de la Renta.

  300. Who could not fall in love with someone who donated endless hours to transfer the boy scout uniform into a modern look after decades of the boring military design? He won my heart then, and still continues to do so with his classy styles of women’s clothing season after season.

  301. Oscar de la Renta has tirelessly graced women with his unique sense of design, color and style for decades. Just looking at this bag gives one a sense of the special gift that his mind holds for making women look and feel special. His contemplation of women around the world has forged an amazing ability to bring to reality what many women would love to see themselves as, unique individuals who can express their uniqueness by what they wear. While his past remains timeless, Oscar de la Renta has continually adapted to the changing environment and given women from many walks of life the sense of beauty and dignity that many others still seek. If only many less fortunate women could have the unique opportunity, just once, to be dressed by this “beautiful man” whose designs have changed how so many women feel about themselves, that would change them immeasurably. Many long & healthy years, Oscar. You stand out among the greats.

  302. Growing up in NY, reading the society pages in the Times and Page Six in the Post, EVERY time I saw a dress that made me swoon — a dress that made the woman wearing it look more lovely, more sophisticated, more dazzling than anyone else in the room — it was always an Oscar dress.

  303. First time visitor to this site. I have known the name Oscar de la Renta my entire life. But as I have taken time to read each post, and heartfelt thoughts of many, I’m falling for not the designer, but the gentleman inspiring others and building memories with his creations.

  304. I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta prints when I was 10. It was the subtle yet bold prints that added a dash of elegance that reeled me and from then on I have adored them.Oscar is why I love the timelessness of hunting for the right pieces.

  305. I’m grew up in the 70’s / 80’s so I fist fell in love with Oscar during the early 80’s. His creations were always draped over someone famous. I remember reading the fashion mags and longing over the gorgeous dresses with sophisticated lines and perfect details. His dresses were always the ones that spoke “class”.

  306. When ever I see a piece of Oscar de la Renta’s work I remember why im going to school for fashion. My mother has been wearing Oscar for year and I think I really feel in love was when my fashion teacher explained his life history to us. Being able to “run” with so many designer is incrediable.

  307. My grandmother used to spritz me with Oscar and drape one of her scarves around my neck before taking me to the store where she worked when I was young. I will always hold a special place in my heart for Oscar as his perfume and a simple scarf made me feel like a million bucks and that memory will always remind me of how special my Grammy was!

  308. Dear Mr. de la Renta, When I first fell in love with your work I was a mere child of 17 reading a copy of Vogue. My first purchase I was able to make was at the age of 31.I wore a size 2 and I was in a high end consignment store.I purchased the most gorgeous red cocktail dress for a Respiratory Therapy convention. I looked amazing, and it was confirmed by another female who passed by me and said”great dress”. That is when you know you look fab when another lady can appreciate your outfit !

  309. Oscar de la Renta entered my life through a pair of designer jeans. True love emerged immediately as I felt the classic style and beauty from his design transfer from the garment to my body. The creations of Oscar inspire women to wear their inner beauty on the outside.

  310. I’ve come to appreciate fashion later in life (I’m in my 40’s) and Oscar de la Renta has been consistently my favorite. A couple of years ago, I remember reading a profile of a socialite in Vogue, and I thought she had the most exquisite dresses. Of course, nearly all of them were Oscar dresses. Now that I have the interest and a little more money, I’d love to own my own little piece of Oscar de la Renta. This gorgeous bag would be a wonderful start.

  311. I remember going through my grandmother’s fabulous, classy clothes and accessories as a little girl – and of course Oscar was a staple of the wardrobe. Would love to win this for my grandmother – it’s her 80TH birthday on Aug 25!! She’s still as fabulous as ever.

  312. In 1978 I was given his perfume for a Christmas present from my boyfriend. I loved it so much and now after that his name pops up in all fashion and I love his dress that Penelope Cruz wore with the bow on back. You are a star

  313. The first time I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta was when I realized that his designs were not at all about him but about the women who wear them. His creations allow women to step into their best as women: beautiful, feminine and accomplished. For that, we shall never forget him.

  314. I have not yet had the opportunity to fall in love with Oscar de la Renta, however when I receive this bag I know it will be love at first sight. I can hardly wait.

  315. I would have to say that the first time I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta was upon seeing the name printed in my first copy of Elle. Just the name itself jumps out on the page, screaming (politely) sophistication, luxury, beauty, and all that jazz. Ever since then, I’ve been watching the runway shows religiously (if only I could actually go; I only watch them from podcasts 🙂 ). Once I get out of high school & college, I will buy myself an Oscar de la Renta dress (and other things, of course!)

I hope being in high school won’t make me too young of choice to recieve this to-die-for bag. I am seriously obsessed with fashion :). But whether or not you pick me is totally okay! Just the fact that you, Mr. Oscar de la Renta, is actually reading something that i wrote is unbelievable and an honor!

  316. I fell in love with ODLR a number of years ago when I saw one of his beautiful designs in a Wedding magazine (I have long been planning my still unscheduled, non existent wedding!). His gowns are timeless and epitomize the definition of chic! I have always dreamed that if I had a fairy godmother to grant me three wishes, one would be an ODLR gown. Ahhh, a girl can dream. There is a current(ish) ODLR tea-length wedding gown that I am coveting. It is exactly what I hope to wear when I do get married.

Thanks Bag Snobs for allowing us this awesome opportunity!

    Ashley R, Dallas

  317. ever since I saw the bag in the magazine that I bought, I had to cut it out and have it in my wallet, I am hoping to win this bag and finalize my dream. thanks.

  318. I first fell in love with the name – I saw the words Oscar de la Renta on one of my father’s ties, and I loved the way it sounded (even if I couldn’t roll the R). As I grew up, I fell in love again with his beautiful dresses.

  319. My mother bought me an Oscar de la Renta bra we found at a discount store when I was 16. I remember this distinctly because I have never felt or looked so fabulous as I did with it on. Now that I have children of my own your lingerie is all I purchase and also the only luxury I afford myself. Thank you for a truly wonderful line! sincerely – Elizabeth

  320. I fell in love with Oscar dela Renta the first time I saw a dress he made for the Oscars when I was young girl just starting to be interested in fashion and clothing. My mother was a cosemetologist and always had makeup and hair stuff on hand and I loved playing in it but we started to watch the Oscars together and it started to be a tradition. We’d comment on the dresses we liked/hated and my mother told me I kept picking dresses made by de la Renta. His classic style and flair for drama always makes for a beautiful product. Needless to say, he’s one of the lines I check out when the seasons change to see what he’s come up with for me to aspire to own.

  321. I first fell in love with Oscar de la Renta in the fall of 2001. It was the debut of his accessories line and it was just such a natural evolution of his brand. I was completely swept off my feet. That collection left me breathless – to see his clothes paired so perfectly in all things de la Renta.

  322. Oscar de la Renta changed the way I thought about and bought clothing. I was a dorkily awkward, wide-eyed seventeen when I accompanied my mother into Saks and haphazardly wandered into this beautiful gown on the mannequin. As intimidated as I felt in the store (I was very shy), I just had to touch it. I had never before felt anything as beautiful to my fingertips as it looked to my eyes. In that moment, I thought to myself that this, this is true beauty, this is true style, this is quality. I carefully checked the label, read the emblazoned ODLR, sighed at the price tag. From that moment on I stopped buying to be trendy and fashionable and started saving my allowance and babysitting dollars for something worth it. I am still waiting to be able to afford the dress, and I have never bought from H&M since.

  323. I started reading Vogue in high school, way back in the early 80’s and I remember seeing his designs in those pages. My dad’s girlfriend was enamored of him also and we enjoyed browsing through the magazine!

  324. I was a senior looking for something for a job interview. I knew designer clothes were out of my league. However I took my check and purchased a stunning scarf. I felt like a queen with my Oscar de la Renta scarf. It was then that I developed my philosophy: I am worth it. I make it a point to have something, anything that makes me feel special-even if it is only Oscar perfume. That too makes me feel like a queen.

  325. I espied a coy young woman in a New York subway and she loooked trendy and chic…She really stood out in a crowd. She said, “she was going to a job interview and had spent her last few dollars on buying a interview outfit. I told her she looked like a million bucks. I asked her what designer she was wearing and she stated, “Oscar de la Hoya”! I laughed and knew she meant “Oscar de la Renta”..I will never forget that memorable moment.

  326. I LOVE Oscar perfume, soap, Lotion and powder. It is the greatest. and this is a great chance to win a Oscar de la Renta Bag. Thank you.

  327. Well, to be honest I’m just the husband of a professional career woman. She is a wonderfull wife and mother and i’m sure she would go crazy over something like this. Anyway, you can’t blame a guy for trying to do something for his wife eh?

  328. When I used to read all the fashion magazines at the library as a teenager. I was not a popular girl but I dreamed of being in the in group.

  329. I lived in Venezuela in the early 90s where I was friends with a girl whose mother was elegance personified. I will never forget walking inside her mother’s room and seeing the most gorgeous Oscar de la Renta white ruffled blouse hanging from a door. It was love at first sight.

  330. I fell in love with Oscar the first time I saw one of his bags. Just looking at it, even though I knew I couldn’t afford such a luxury, made me feel the thrill. Such lovely things to look at and I am sure an exceptional thrill to own.

  331. My mother isn’t real fancy but she does love her bags and perfume. You will never see her with an ugly bag. I remember being fifteen years old when she asked me to grab her purse so she could drop me off at school. It was the first time I picked up this thick plush bag. The color was soft carmel with highlights in the sunlight. The scent was nice and pure. I asked her where she got her bag. She said you just don’t go out and get an Oscar. Oscar calls out for you. Throughout the years I saw her with other beautiful bags but this pretty carmel bag I will never forget. It was the first time I had fallen in love with Oscar. Ever since then, I have prayed for Oscar to find me but my pocket book won’t allow me to be found. Oscar, I am right here!

  332. I love this bag it’s blue will be perfect with jeans and dresses too. I like the fact that it will fold flat in a suitcase making it possible to pack with my clothing. I have never really noticed anything made by Oscar de La Renta before so I guess this the first time I’ve loved something made by Oscar de La Renta.

  333. I first fell in love with Oscar de la Renta when I picked up my first Vogue magazine and ogled through the pages. I fell in love with his style but was never able to afford an item so if I win it will be my first Oscar de la Renta bag. I will be the envy of my group of friends.

  334. It was me 14 an awkward gay boy alone in Paris. The street was dead until the 6 foot tall beauty came, She collided into me at full speed sending us both to the ground and her ODLR clutch went flying. Later over coffee I’ll never forget her words “Honey you can never go wrong with my good friend Oscar here”

  335. I first fell in love with him when I first smelled his wonderful fragrance in the early 1980s. It was the most classy scent on the market at that time. I was so happy when I got my first big bottle of it for Christmas when I was in college. Brings back memories.

  336. My Grandma and I spent many Saturdays at the fragrance counter sampling her favorite scent – Oscar for Women by Oscar de la Renta. It was this scent; I feel in love with and became smitten with all of Mr. de la Renta’s creations.

  337. I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta during fashion forecasting class… I had always liked him, but wasn’t super familiar with his work. I think he does a superb job of keeping things classy but sexy and never settling for something dull!

  338. i feel in love with oscar when i started reading vogue and dreaming about when i would be able to afford the clothes. if i owned this bag I would feel that my dreams would come true.

  339. I am from a big city and fashion here is as important as the education we receive to the jobs that we have.

I remember in the early 70’s looking through magazines and seeing the fabulous creations wore by the models. I knew then that Oscar’s fashions were going to be the ones that just went WOW.

From the way he outlines the female body to the luxurious fabrics he uses. He has been so creative and one of our most important designers in the history of design.

Although we could never really afford any of his clothes I wear his signature scent.

I would feel it as an honor to be able to win this purse. When I am old and grey and in the nursing home….. I could always have this as one of my stories…. on how I won the exclusive gift from Oscar himself. LOL

    Thanks for the great contest

    -cheerz

  340. I first fell in love with Oscar De La Renta when I was a young girl, looking in the fashion books in the bookstore. The beautiful designs, made me feel whimsical. There is noone that can compare to making a woman feel like a woman than Oscar De La Renta……..Everytime I see one of the wonderful designs, I go back to that very moment, and those very pages…….It is one of those “forever memories” for me….THANK YOU for making us feel so special.

  341. Honestly, I think every true fashionista has loved him from birth, and I’m no exception. Every frilly, decadent creation I saw as a child made me pine for a black-tie ball, or even a wedding. Now that I’m grown, nothing’s changed…except that I covet so much more than a ballgown!

  342. For me, it happened fairly recently. When I saw Gwyneth Paltrow in a gold lame Oscar de la Renta stunner of a dress a couple of months ago on the cover of Vogue, I knew Oscar was my new best friend. Oscar de la Renta is a fashion visionary.

  343. not sure when it was but i saw a dress of his in Vogue and I thought if I ever get to a place where i can afford quality clothes he’s be my first choice.

  344. I first fell in love with Oscar de la Renta when I saw him profiled on an episode of “Style Maker.” I was 19 at the time. I had always admired his designs, but seeing him at home, with his family, hearing him speak about his design philosophy and what makes him tick… just being given a glimpse of the man behind the beautiful clothing (and hearing that beautiful latin voice for the first time), made me fall in love with him. ♥Oh, if only he were not married… ♥

  345. Years ago, I fell in love with an OdlR jacket. My mother disapproved of relationships with “fancy clothes,” so we had a torrid secret affair. One day I arrived at the shop for our biweekly tryst and discovered that the jacket was gone. I’m still searching for my first love.

  346. I fell in love with the Oscar de la Renta bags after viewing them while on a vacation in New York City. They are the most prestigious and glamorous bags around!

  347. I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta a long time ago, in my native country. My grandma used to buy this magazine called “Vanidades” and from time to time they would cover Mr. de la Renta shows. From the very first time I found his gowns to be so femenine and just gorgeous. I was a child then, but my opinion has not changed. I still love his designs! Thanks for giving us a chance to win this beautiful bag.

  348. I hate to admit it but…it must have been in the late ’70’s when everyone was wearing those Oscar de la Renta jeans and I wasn’t. Not sure I ever did get a pair. Kind of like this bag.

  349. I FIRST FELL IN LOVE WITH OSCAR WHILE WATCHING THE ACADEMY AWARDS. TO HOLD, TO FEEL THE TEXTURE & TO TAKE A PICTURE WITH ME HOLDING THE PURSE WOULD BE A DREAM. I THEN WOULD SELL IT TO HELP PAY FOR MY HUSBAND’S DOUBLE LUNG TRANSPLANT. SOMETIMES WE GIVE UP A MATERIAL DREAM TO KEEP THE LOVE OF YOUR LIFE ALIVE.

  350. Oscar de la Renta has the ability to create fashion style that is smart, classic and is gracious but not ostentatious.

  351. I fell in love with Oscar during my wedding gown search – I knew that his seamlessly executed full lace, full-skirted v-neck dress was “the one”! My heart still races whenever I think about it and when I see brides like Amanda Peet, Katherine Heigl and Jenna Bush in his designs.

  352. I love Oscar de la Renta as of this morning when my sister told me I did because she really wants this handbag.

  353. I first fell in love with ODLR when I saw SJP wearing his dress. I imagine wearing anything ODLR would give the woman wearing it such confidence, feel of pride, sophistication, and all of this enhance the comfort a woman feels in her own skin. His designs are just exquisite.

  354. I am sorry for sounding don’t know what really but I did not know about this brand name up until now and after reading couple of posts, I feel may be if I am out of date for this(which I know am not) my daughter would appreciate this win.Looks so gorgeous. Pick me for my 6 yr old daughter.

    herry123_us@live.com

  355. I have been married to my wife for 18 years as of May17,2008.She loves your products and would love to give her this bag as a preasent which would be the nicest thing I would have been able to give her after 18 years and two boys ages 14 and 17.

  356. when I was 19 my mom bought me odlr perfume..I really liked it and many people would stop and ask me about it…then I found out that he did more then perfume and fell in love with his fashion line too! Now my teens are in love with his stuff too…keep up the good work!

  357. I love Oscar de la Renta for I believe he represents the Latin American community with style and class. His designs are always classics. How about when he decides to use flowers and the runway looks like a garden in the Dominican Republic? Even his garden has a touch of class. Oscar thank you for showing the world that creativity is not limited to the French.

    Success to you always!

    Tatiana

  358. I think I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta the day of my wedding many, many years ago. My mother gave me her Oscar de la Renta which my father had given her the night before he left for Vietnam. It was the last gift she was ever to receive from him and she cherished it with all of her heart. Of all the things we lost to Hurricane Katrina, I think the bag was the thing which hurt the most.

  359. When I was 3 years old, my aunt gave me a little black Oscar de la Renta lingerie top, which my mom tied the straps up and I wore it as a nightgown. I felt like a princess and have been wearing them ever since (over 20 years!)

  360. I fell in love with Oscar’s luggage. Very clean lines, and would most certainly stand out on the baggage claim belt! Thanks for this opportunity. Outstanding bag.

  361. As immigrants from China, my parents didn’t have much, if any, disposable income for luxuries when I was a young girl. Nevertheless, my mother always took great care with her appearance. My grandmother made a collared shirtdress of dreamy white cotton from an ODLR Vogue pattern. I fell in love with ODLR the first time I saw my mother wearing that white dress, and saw how proud, glamorous and radiant she looked. I fell in love with my incredible mother all over each time she wore that dress as well!

  362. I admit Oscar, it was not love at first sight. Your Goya was an entirely unremarkable lump of shagreen.

But somehow your creation attached itself to me, unforgettably, to the unconscious feminine clenchings of my heart.

I understand now, your art, this perfection that ripens, that comes only with time.

  363. This year I was playing Mad Gab with my friends at a party, and I screamed the answer, “Oscar de la Renta!” to the other team’s obvious surprise. They all asked me who he was, and I was stunned because Oscar de la Renta is the fabulous designer of beautiful, classic clothing. While I may not be able to afford them (I’m a student!), I can still appreciate the clean lines and vibrant colors of his clothing in magazines and fashion shows. I think of his clothing as “ladylike fun.”

  364. I first fell in love with his perfume. My birth grandmother, who we found shortly before her death, gave me a purple make-up case filled with the perfume, lotions, etc. I never got to meet her but she sent me the this, and I still have it.

  365. Only in my dreams could I every dream of owning such a great bag. This would be an out of this world win for me!!!

  366. i began a (hitherto unnoticed) love affair with you, Oscar, beginning with sex and the city and maintained because of your frothy, timeless confections; please give me a hint of your love, unrequited love is too cruel, and your dresses Are romantic fairy tales. you can’t be heartless!

  367. I was a young girl, about the age of 10 or 11, browsing some of the programs on TV; I came across an Oscar runway show. The images of women dressed in his beautifully draped gowns and tailored separates absolutely enthralled me. His use of fabrics, cut, silhouette, color – genius!

  368. When I was a young and awkward teen my mother purchased me an Oscar de la Renta dress to wear to my junior prom. When i put that dress on I was transformed from the ugly duckling into a beautiful swan. its been a love affair ever since. Only the finest of designers have the ability to calm the angst and insecurites of women, only Oscar de la Renta has the ability to do that with an awkward teen. thank you.

  369. I always liked Oscar. But I fell in love with him after I saw him at an personal appearance. Oscar was so personable, everyone fell under his spell. Now I even have a nickname for him, “Oscar take my Renta” due to my splurging on his collections.

  370. Vogue ads! I cited my love for that magazine in my application to MIT, and said that “physics and fashion design weren’t mutually exclusive” passions. I’m studying nuclear engineering at MIT now, but on my walls, there’s de la Renta ads taped up between pages of calculations and project notes.

  371. Oscar de la Renta stands for class at it’s finest. Clothes, perfume, purses, etc.. He is phenomenal. To own anything designed by him is a wonderful gift to hold on to.

  372. Oscar de la Renta was a name I knew growing up and something to work for when I grew up. My family struggled financially when I was young and knew if I could actually afford this, I would be OK.

  373. I first fell in love with Oscar De la renta whenever i was at a thrift store, and seen an oscar de la renta shirt there and from then on i loved oscar de la renta, although its not exactly in my budget

  374. I feel in love watching the red carpets walks when I was a little girl. The beautiful creations by Oscar stuck in my mind. When I first started working I saved and crimped and bought my own piece and it still hangs in my closet 20 years later.

  375. I fell in love with Oscar de la Renta before I knew what fashion was. I was little and always searching for a fairy tail. Jaqueline Kennedy was always dressed in his clothes and I always looked at old photos of her and loved her clothes. My mother had a pair of black pumps in her closet when I was little and I used to wear them and pretend that I was dressed in a Jaqueline outfit and I felt classic and polished. Since then I’ve always wanted to dress classic yet chic and Oscar de la Renta is all of those things to women’s fashion.

  376. I fell in love with the perfume before I knew about his clothes and now I just love all his bags that I dream about them constantly.

  377. i fell in love with oscar when i was only 8 yrs old! yes, 8! i always admired his designs whenever i open fashion magazines and look at his very sophisticated and classic designs especially, his gowns, they are to die for… i always imagine myself wearing his creations and said to myself ” i look like a princess!!” i also remember my granny wearing his perfume, which i could not remember anymore coz i was still young at that time, i would always sniff her and say how good she smelled and sprayed some to me!! those were the happiest days of my life. now i’m here in the states and haven’t seen my granny for 2 1/2 years and missed smelling her. seeing oscar and his passion for design makes me remember my childhood days of course until now i love him

  378. I have always loved to study fashion magazines and in thinking back I believe it was Vogue where I first got a glimpse of Oscar de la Renta fashions and accessories. I remember seeing a this stunning white suit, it was absolutely exquisite and I searched to the back of the magazine because that is where it told you where you could purchase it and who it was made by – do you remember the days when you had to do that, LOL! I remember quickly turning to the back of the magazine and when I found the information on the white suit it was made by Oscar de la Renta and the cost was something like $8,000.00! Of course, totally out of my league, but I to this day remember the details of that suit and all the embellishments that were on it that made it the ultimate in glamour. Shortly after that I went out and bought some Oscar de la Renta cologne and that made me feel super feminine and sexy so I was very pleased even though I couldn’t get my white suite! You have no idea how much I would love to own the Oscar de la Renta Goya Bag – I would wear it all the time and feel so confident every single minute! Thanks for offering this amazing giveaway!

  379. Fell in love many many years ago when a dear man introduced me to what fashion and style truly are. I miss Gary every day, but his classic style and taste still influence me every day. Gary always said… oh dear, you must buy the de le Renta!! Nothing else will do.

  380. the first time i fell in love with Oscar de la Renta was when we made out on the top of the Eiffel Tower, that’s when i knew he was the one!

  381. I was 16 and there was a beautiful black haired boy. One day I nervously put on OdlR perfume, dressed my best, and asked him out. He said yes and I fell in love with him and the perfume. The boy is long gone, but I still love that perfume.

  382. When I laid eyes on the beautiful taffeta ballgown skirt he paired with a simple tee, I thought it was such an inventive take on something so classic, yet strikingly simple. That collection made me fall in love with fashion. His clothes are the epitome of sophistication, the way a woman should dress.

  383. I love to watch all the Awards shows, and always someone is dressed impeccably in a gorgeous gown by Oscar de la Renta. How I would love to own a beautiful dress like that, but of course, I cannot afford anything that nice. This shimmery silver handbag is absolutely gorgeous. How I would love to carry it into a show or a fundraiser at the non-profit theatre where I work. It would take the eyes off my less-than-perfect figure and my clearance rack clothes and for a moment, I would feel like a red carpet celebrity.

Thank you for this moment to dream, Mr. de la Renta and BagSnob!

  384. I have always been a fan of Oscar de la Renta but I fell in love with your designs in 1999 when I was shopping for my wedding gown. Your gowns are gorgeous and elegant. The were the dresses every girl dreams to wear for their fairytale wedding.

  385. What I love about Oscar is that his name and product has been consistent. One spray of Oscar and the scent circulates in the morning and lingers through the midnight. For decades I have enjoyed watching, wearing and witnessing history through products and designs from Oscar.

I have adored the products that this fashion mastermind has given to us over the years BUT what I admire the most is Oscar’s philanthopy. I have read about his charitable acts and his willingness to help mankind.

My mother and father raised nine children, we didn’t have much but we had two Oscars that I can remember, one was Oscar perfume and Oscar Mayer bologna(smile). I admit that I love the Oscar perfume the most.

The very fact that Oscar would donate this purse is a mirror and reflection of this man’s life. I recently opened a food pantry and I feed hundreds of children every month. It’s back to school time, the cabinets are bare, the donations are low.

If I win this bag, I would have to be a creative genius like Oscar, and as much as I want the bag, adore the bag and yes, I have dreamed about the bag. As much as I would love to give the coveted bag to my mother to see the look on her face, unfortunately, that’s not what I would do.

If I won the bag, I would hold a press conference to proclaim my disbelief to the world and then I would have an auction for the purse and 100% of all the proceeds would be donated to my charity http://www.thegivingmovement.org to raise money to put more food on my pantry’s shelf.

After all that’s what Oscar would want me to do and $4,000 would feed alot of people!

In closing I want to say thank you to Oscar for leaving a legacy for other designers to imitate but never duplicate!

I am Cheryl, your girl, and I hope to hear from you soon. If you do chose me prepare your ears for my scream and my tears!

  386. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I first fell in love with Oscar, at about the age of 18, you know the age when most young ladies truly fall in love for the first time. I had just started working as a legal secretary and I was making good money and buying beautiful things, but not designer things, mind you! I WAS just starting out in the World!

My best friend and I both were in love with the “Oscar” fragrance and we were both dating young men around the Christmas season. We both hinted to our respective beaus that we would love to find a bottle of his fragrance under the Christmas tree and we both anticipated receiving a bottle. Well, I guess she was a little better at throwing out the hints, (or maybe better at something else, I’m not sure), but when Christmas came and she called me to report on the gift situation, she had, in fact, received a beautiful bottle of Oscar parfum, while I was given a lovely watch. Ok, the watch was nice, but every time I smelled the Oscar fragrance on her, I got just a little bit jealous.

Well, come Valentine’s Day, the Oscar was, at last, mine!!!

  387. I fell in love with Oscar everday for decades because it was the scent my mother & father wore. Dad has passed. They sprayed it in the morning and it lingered all day. My love deepened for Oscar when I read about Oscars charitable acts and how he helped children.

    What a man!

  388. I don’t want to be a whiner, but based on my review of the comments, it appears that some of the finalists may have exceeded the word limit.

Ok, so I am a whiner, but I just want to check for future contests, because I would have liked to have written more.

Thanks for the opportunity though – this was a great contest!
