Prada Pizzo S Satchel

Kelly and I are having a huge debate right now. Despite an affinity for Prada, she hates a Prada bag that I had found strangely appealing last month. My argument is that Miuccia Prada’s strangeness is due to her incredibly intelligent creativity, not out of a need for attention or marketing. Not that I would carry the crazy stuff she puts out but at least I understand where it comes from. Until I saw this thing. This Pizzo S satchel is beyond my comprehension. It’s like a hippo dressed in black lace. Or a widow dressed for a funeral. Anything, but a bag that a normal sane person would carry. Prada bag $1,995 at Saks.com

  1. Love it Tina a dressed up Hipo!!! I have seen many celebs etc toting a cute Mui Mui bag for fall 2008….I take it they have been gifting people!! Its a bowling sahped bag with a criscross detail….do you know anything about it or seen it in real life…i want a good work bag?!

  2. I know you are going to think I am crazy, but about 15 years ago I bought a black purse trimmed with black lace, and it was made

by a Harley Davis woman biker.

In that context, picture this bag carried by a biker, and it might make sense.

FYI I have regretted giving my black laced bag on last year.

  3. I can see the tie in with her gorgeous women’s wear collection for fall but that’s about it. The lace should have stayed on the clothes. A window dressing for a funeral is the perfect description.

As for Miuccia’s strangeness equaling creativity, i don’t know. Her menswear is getting stranger and stranger, and she does it while claiming she is blending the lines between male and female. Well, only a trannie would want to buy a cut off shirt or bra-like contraption.

  4. Ah, the Prada debate. I understand that every season Miuccia has a vision. One season it’s bathmats as coats, the next–fairy caricatures that bleed on leather bags. This season, it’s the lace. I like the lace thing. I have a soft spot for the arts and crafts movement, and Parda’s lace-on-steroids dresses take the arts and crafts movement to the nth degree. I think, however, the house became a bit lazy in interpreting the lace-craze to accessories. This bag is not bad. I think what infuriates (yeah, I said it, infuriates) me about this bag is the lazy approach to details. I like the concept of using the lace in an abstract way, but come on, the clochette? The metal rings and that handles looks like plastic? I have a Prada bag from about four seasons ago, and it has the same handle in brown leather. In terms of the clochette, I understand sticking with a house staple, just not Hermes’. The could have taken this concept somewhere much more innovative and fun.

  5. This bag is just AWFUL!!!!

Lottie–The Miu Miu bag you are talking about it called the “cutout bowler” and its on pre-order on a couple of sites….Not sure how I feel about the bag though (not that you asked me) lol…I’m not really loving it at all!! =) (have to see in person)

    B..x

  6. B…thanks for the heads up…..i have only seen it being toted by Victoria Beckham and more recntly by Blake Lively. I like it in a weird kinda way but i haven’t seen it in person so wondered if Tina or Kelly or anyone else has……I don’t like the way they have a random green/turquoise colour on the bag on there website but like the look of the brownie black version! I would really like to see it in person to make my final decision! Do you know how much it is? Where is it on preorder?

  7. Lottie, YES I meant to say it is around $1400 and change, its on neimanmarcus.com in the red version…I too must see it in person, not due to ship till Oct, I think….Good Luck!!

    B..xx

PS..I hate that we have to wait for our post to post..lol…did that make sense??

  8. You have to see it in person. It worked very well with the lace clothes Prada showed on the runway, the bag is very much part of the entire viewpoint. The gold version she showed (& Bergdorf has) is gorgeous & has far more versatility than the black.

  9. Lottie, check out the dimensions on the bag

its HUGE!! (miu miu) 36 inches wide and tall…I dunno how tall you are, but I’m thinking one can carry a small person in this bag…lol..

  10. There’s something wildy morbid about the bag-like an Italian funeral in lace-and something extremely Asian about it. If Rei Kawakubo had designed it or Yohji, everyone would be falling all over themselves to get it.

MP is doing what the Japanese have always been known for, advancing thru fabrics, design and application and not worrying about the latest trend. Yet-her approach is more modern because they’re waiting to get this lace on a Maggie Gyllenhaal or someone on the red carpet.

Six, twelve months down the road you’ll be seeing it on everyone and you’ll remember who inspired it AND you’ll be seething that you didn’t GET THE BAG. Correctamundo?

  11. B– yes, you’ve caught on. 🙂

Sasha– I get what you mean but no, I will not be wishing I got this bag. Though I want that lace prada coat for Fall- it is MAJOR

    XOXO

  12. B….I noticed too how cool….wonder how long this will be able to last!!! fingers crossed! Sneekie T and K =)

  13. Just had a look at the bag at Niems…don’t like the look of the red/black/blue version….It is fairly large….but I need a big one for work!!! i think it would look possibly ok in a black and brown?!

Have you seen the gorgeous Manoloe boots on Neims site…so Carrie Bradshaw love’em…oh to be shopping in the US…you get so much more selection than we do!!!

B..have you got “THE BAG” yet?!

  14. I personally love and want this bag! The romantic goth feel is straight out of a Tim Burton Film with HBC as leading lady.

$1,995 is pretty steep though so I have to know the dimensions and materials used to see if it is worth the dent on my savings.

  15. A sales associate at Neiman Marcus showed me this bag in ivory and told me it reminded her of an old-fashioned baby’s bonnet. After staring at it a bit, it sure did! She then moved my attention to some of the more conventional fall Prada bags, many of which I like very much.
