Miu Miu Coral Stones Embellished Tote

Does it feel like it’s Miuccia day? I can’t recall ever bashing on Miu Miu; for some reason Prada’s younger and much hipper sibling has never disappointed me. Take this tote in urban chic distressed leather for example, looks simple, right? Look closer, coral stone on the strap? How delightfully unexpected! Now miumiutotecoral.jpgthis is something I can take to the park with my son and be glamorous but appropriate (okay, truth is I don’t wear sneakers and jeans to the park– I just wear what I usually wear which means I get stared and snickered at by other moms when I’m sliding down the slide with platform shoes on– but do I care? Not really. I had lunch with a girlfriend the other day and told her I was thinking about signing my son up for soccer. She burst out laughing and said “You are not going to fare well with those soccer moms, just keep him in golf and tennis”!). Anyhoo, back to the bag– the shoulder strap function has become important to me. I used to turn my nose up at the whole cross the body strap thing until I started traveling with a child. Trust me, you want both hands free when running around the airport! Let’s see, 14″x14″ is big but I think manageable for most people– especially if you need to put your laptop in it or school books. Hum, what else do I need to tell you about this bag…. oh it’s $1,550 but think about how functional a simple tote with a twist is and how long you’ll be able to use it– forever. 1. The shape on this bag is quite ordinary. However,I too like the stones on the handle-makes it slightly different and more personal. The miu miu label is not as disturbing as the one on Pradas.

  2. I get snickered at by other moms too, I do wear jeans, but no sneakers! I had to switch from heels to Louboutin or Lanvin flats after I had my 2nd child, I just can’t climb the jungle gym in stilletos fast enough.

Love this bag for playground, sports and travel. I always hated the cross body messenger bag, but have given up as well. My first messenger bag for the playground was Hermes Evelyn, love it!

Style snob moms are the best!!!

    xoxo

  3. Funny!

The shoes I went on the slid with aren’t stilettos, they’re platform cork wedges I wear in warm weather. But I do keep a pair of silver ballet flats in the car to change into when I’m go to the park. xoxo

  4. By coral stones, do you mean something related to coral reefs? Because if that’s the case, I’d be interested in seeing how they extract them, as most coral reef ecosystems these days are shrinking, if not outright dying. I’d hate to think Miu Miu (whom I usually love) is doing something THAT morally reprehensible.

  5. I can totally see you being the most stylish mom at the park Tina. I think I’m going to be a more casual mom…but I’ll have the best bag there! lol

  6. oh Tina,, I have to agree with your friend

Golf and tennis for your son will be better suited for you. I can see you now with your birkin and loubies, oh the soccer moms won’t get it! LOL

  7. T~~ I really LOVE this bag, Miu Miu never disappoints me.

Your soccer story is way funny!! I signed my then 4 year old son in soccer last year, needless to say I got looks from the other parents all the time, I dont even wear heels (Im tall) but always in my ballet lanvin flats/jeans and still got the looks…Thank goodness he hated soccer and didnt have to sign him up for another season…

  8. I live in Los Angeles and coach my son’s team. I don’t know what “looks” you are getting at practice or at the games. Most of the parents wear jeans and flats…that is the “dress code” for most of the parents. I also don’t understand how (and I do hope that you are joking) that you would put what you wear and the “looks” you might get over what your child would like to participate in…just a thought!! 🙂

  9. Hi Michelle, Not sure if you were directing that to B or me???

It was my girlfriend who objected to soccer moms– I have no objections to them.

And yes, my son will start soccer next year — but I still plan to wear jeans with platform sandals– I can’t do jeans and flats, not a good look for me. It’s not like I’m in stilettos, plus cork wedges are fine on grass 🙂

  10. Where I live no one wears flats and jeans to a soccer game, mostly ugly sweats with sneakers, I would never not put my kids in sports cuz people might give me looks, it just so happens that he didnt like soccer…Not that your directing the comment to me, or perhaps you did, idk (just saying) =)

  11. hi tina – i have an idea for a post! i always notice you end a lot of reviews with “you can use this forever!” could you feature some older bags that some of us might have in our closet (or past trends), that are still wearable and not “out”? obviously it’s fun to see what’s new but a lot of times i look at what i own and think “well i haven’t used this in a while… is it still okay?” i’m reminded of when i was in middle school and i convinced my parents to buy me some doc marten sandals because “i could wear them forever!” hopefully my judgement is better than that now 🙂

  12. Great idea! I have totes from 10 years ago that I still pull out. A patent pink prada tote that everyone thought was too trendy but I said, I’ll use it forever! And I do 🙂

I am a pack rat and keep a lot of my bags….

  13. Tina, and Kelly too…I would LOVE to see your collection, even bags from college/high school days, or heirlooms that were passed down to you. Of course, I would love to see all of your new stuff too! You ladies have inspired me to be a hot mom when the day comes. Oh and you would be proud, I took my SIL to Burberry over the weekend and made her buy a new hot mommy bag. Some of their Fall/Winter bags are super cute without doing their normal plaid look. Needless to say, hot mommies make the world a better place!

  14. AND WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH DRESSING UP, OR MAKING YOURSELF LOOK CUTE TO GO TO SPORTING EVENTS?

If someone wants to wear stilettos or wedges to a soccer game alongside cute clothes, then why not?

I think that it shows a sign in taking pride of yourself, and taking pride in your son, so whenever he’s waiting to pitch or kick or throw the ball, whatever, he and his friend can look over to the stands and say “hey thats my mom”!

  15. You said sister!

That is my point exactly, I don’t care what the “code” is amongst other sports moms. I wear what I wear because it makes me feel good.

For me, jeans and platform/wedges are comfy and functional. Stilettos didn’t work on grassy soccer fields so I don’t do it anymore. LOL

But football games and tennis matches where I’m not standing on grass? Bring on the stilettos!

  16. I love that you dress nicely no matter what you are doing. I am much older than you, but I always wear at minimum a jacket with my jeans and carry my best bags. Most everyone I see is wearing sweats, track suits, or grubby jeans with ugly tees. The few women I see dressed nicely are senior ladies. I love to see younger women dressed fashionably. Of course, I am in the middle of the US, so things are much more casual here. You go girl!!! Maybe seeing you will inspire the other soccer moms!

  17. Thank you, Debbi! I only wear sweats to the gym…. I’m not a track suit girl unless I’m actually running track 🙂

  18. Good article. It’s refreshing to see an article where a girl admits that a) girls control the dating scene and b) girls often pick guys who “know how they love bags” rather than choose quality bags. I can’t tell you how many of my girl-friends say something to the effect of “I don’t know what I saw in that jerk!” Stuff like “The Pickup Artist” works…but its because it relies on psychology and manipulation. Not something to emulate, in my opinion.

Girls, give that cute, if not shy and awkward, guy a chance! He might be the one you’re looking for!
