L’Oreal Double Extend Mascaras Fail to Perform

I saw the ad for Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara from L’Oreal a few weeks ago and immediately headed to my local CVS to get one. I am a sucker for new mascaras and will try anything, once. While I was there, I saw the Double Extend Magnifier Mascara and decided to give it a whirl while I was at it. What a huge waste of money (almost $20– which is almost a tube of Dior Show— my current favorite). The Double Extend Magnifier did nothing for me. The ceramide conditioner was fine but then the mascara could barely adhere to my lashes. There was definitely no 60% extension of lash length happening here. If anything, it clumped due to the ceramide base coat. Its only saving grace was that it slipped off easily with eye make up remover. L’Oreal Double Extend Lash Extender & Magnifier Mascara, $9.79

The Double Extend Beauty Tubes , $10.99, was only slightly better. Same ceramide base coat but slightly different formulation of mascara. The “tubes” did make my lashes slightly longer but not as much as Dior Show and definitely not the 80% it claims to do. Hello– it’s so obvious Linda Evangelista is wearing fake lashes in the ad but I thought I’d try, just in case. Lastly, it was really hard to wash off. I used Shu Uemura’s cleansing oil on it first, hoping to soften it up for removal but it still felt like I ripped out a few lashes with it.

Moral of this story? Don’t try to save money with these mascaras because you end up wasting money. Anyone else try this and had better results? Enlighten me snobs!

  1. I’m with you on this one..mascara is definitely one of those things drugstore brands have yet to master..the worst is when you can’t get the mascara off and you end-up loosing a bunch of eyelashes in the process!!

  2. Have you tried the Diorshow Iconic Mascara yet? It’s even better than the original Diorshow! I find that it repels water even when not marketed as waterproof. It rinses off nicely too. =)

  3. I’m with you — I tried Beauty Tubes and was pretty grossed out by it. More steps, worse results. There are so many good drugstore mascaras, but this isn’t one of them.

  4. The beauty tubes mascara is designed to be washed off with warm water. (As are mascaras utilizing the same technology — Blinc’s Kiss Me and and Clinique’s Power Lash.)

  5. Yes but I don’t think Iconic is as thickening, it’s darker which I dont’ need help with as my lashes are very black.

I still love the original Show– it works best for me!

  6. but KissMe is awesome, not to mention REAlLY CHEAP. (in asia, it’s a drugstore brand, you pick one up for around the same price as maybelline). I LOVE KissMe’s “Active Girl”, completely resistant to everything and comes off with warm water, not to mention its amazing lengthening power (not as good in thickening, mind you).

  7. I agree! I’ve been using the Beauty Tubes Mascara on and off for about a month now and think it’s okay, but removing it really weirds me out: Warm water only, soak the closed lids for about 30 seconds and then “slip” them off, but I always end up having to pick tons of tubes off with my fingers, which is freaky because it looks like my actual lashes are coming off! I love Dior Blackout, but it’s way too hard to remove with all the pigment in it, so it’s special occasion only for me!

  8. I hated the original double extend because it did absolutely nothing, but the Beauty Tubes works very well for me. It lengthens my lashes more than my Lancome Hypnose, and that’s saying something! You’re NOT supposed to use makeup remover on it, it even says so on the box, but just warm water. :/ Lengthens like a dream, but it took me a few uses to FINALLY master the application. I won’t buy any other mascara for a WHILE. 🙂

  9. from my experience, the most effective “tube” mascara is fiberwig (which you can get at sephora). the only problem with it is it dries out quickly so you really only get a month and a half of it.
