Celeb Trend: When Will Hippie Headbands Go Away?

I’ve developed a serious aversion for these hippie headbands. When I first started seeing them wrapped around people’s foreheads, I thought they were fun and even though I’m not the type to pull-off such a look, I loved the hippie-chic vibe. Now that the headbands are ubiquitous though they’ve lost their freshness and innovative quality — both Mischa Barton and Nicole Richie are even selling them as part of their fashion lines! Also most of the time the bands looks very uncomfortable — all the ones I’ve tried on, even for the short time they were wrapped around my head, were tight enough to give me a headache and some of my friends have even end-up with marks from the band cutting into their skin! May I suggest a regular headband instead? Some suggestions after the jump!

Wide Feather Headband, $158 — for something a little more avant-garde!

  1. I think the one on Carrie Underwood looks vaguely old-school glamour. Imagine her in a finger-waved pixie cut – more flapper than hippie.

Plus, “regular” headbands don’t work on me. Long live the hippie headband!

It does not work with bangs like Miley’s, though.

  2. Yeah, I agree, those headbands really need to go. I’ve always liked the retro look of the 60s and 70s, but for some reason, headbands, ugh. Maybe it’s because I remember wearing them and they hurt like hell after a few hours.

  3. This trend looks awesome! I love it, and i have found a very comfortable hippie-headband at Forever 21.

  4. I really like this style….I love all things from that era….but I think buying them is just a waste…I’ve made my own one out of hemp and I just braided it…doesn’t hurt and looks cute

  5. I think the people who are “trying” to look like hippies, and i mean really trying hard, is stupid!!! Man, there is no reason for those who want to be hippies when they don’t know shit about it. Most of these celebrities and stupid bonehead girls try to create an image because they are lost. “If you don’t believe in it don’t wear it or advertise it, in my book it’s another form of abuse to those who truly do believe in it versus those who are blind and just can’t admit that they’re lost in an unwanted place.” -adela
