Alexander McQueen Large patent tote

A few years ago, this bag would have been viable. It is such a cool looking bag but it is unfortunately incredibly dysfunctional. It is heavy and a bit on the clunky side. No more are the frivolous buying days of having something just because you want it, even if it means keeping it in the closet for fun’s sake. On the one hand, it is depressing that we have to start making hard choices but the positive side is that I am forced to edit and it has been cathartic and economical. I started asking myself why I want things, why I over indulge and if it in fact does make me feel better to have too much of a good thing. Once I realized that I don’t need any of it and I am perfectly happy regardless, the real meaning of luxury began sinking in. The icing on the cake, the big bonus, the extra long bath at the end of a perfect day – these indulgences are only enjoyable when we have the time and means to indulge. Right now, this McQueen bag is a novelty only worthy of a quick look-see. At Net-a-Porter for $2395.

  1. I don’t think you need to be uber rich to have a long bath at the end of the day-why do we need to feel guilty about life’s pleasures? If I want a cake,I’ll buy it,just as I always did and I wont feel bad about it.

  2. A bonus for your thoughts Kelly! About the bag: It does look heavy and big, but it has an ageless look, that appeals to me. The price, however, is too high. You are only paying for the brand.

  3. I wasn’t strictly speaking of financial luxuries. Having the time to take a long bath is a luxury if you have a hectic crazy life. But like you said, you should never feel guilty about life’s pleasures! What I meant was, we try to go through all of life’s responsibilities and obligations just to get to the pleasures, so once we get them, we should really enjoy them, which is what luxury means to me.

    Love, Kelly

  4. Let me start by saying that a have rather conservative taste for my age….don’t ask me that one!!!! However, I think the new Alexander McQueen patent tote is sleek, stylish, sophisticated and has a very classy refined aire about it, and lovely clean the lines! It is a modern rendition of the classic kelley style. Well done Mr. McQueen!!! As for the price tag, yes it is exceptionally hefty…but this is probably one of those pieces that is worth it, as it probably has longevity in its’ style with a modified 21st century Audrey Hepburn aire about it!!!

  5. I love this bag it can accommodate all of my essentials MacBook, iPod and it is very sleek and stylish. I will be carrying this and my Novak for the next 20 years.

  6. Love it. I can’t pay more than $600 for a bag but if this ever hits last call (probably not) I will swoop it up over all of the slouchy, boring, trendy bags. This is classic and I love it. My favorite bag this season.

  7. OMG I love this bag!!

NET-A-PORTER have used it in their adcampaign and made it giant……such an amazing pic.

    Love, love, love!

  8. Bravo Kelly….beautifully written. I’m starting to think you’re my twin….I have been pondering the same thoughts as of late. Although, I do have to say I don’t see anything too spectacular about the bag. Perhaps if I were to fondle it in person. For something like this I would rather opt for the Novak or an Anya Hindmarch, as this seems (at least to me) to have a similar feel to several of her bags, and are cheaper in price and definitely more lightweight.
