Miranda Kerr’s Louis Vuitton: Snob or Slob?

I’m loving the Louis Vuitton African Queen bag from the LV Spring/Summer 2009 collection (updated version of the Monogram Limelight from the Fall/Winter 2007 collection). I have a feeling that the gold will make it “love it or hate it,” but I think the metallic color mixed with the colorful tassels gives it a playful, tribal touch. The bag has a fun youthful vibe, plus the black twisted drawstring closure is quite original. I’m not too fond of how it looks against Miranda Kerr’s dress, but I think it would be to die with a conservative black suit or classic LBD. What do you think? Snob or Slob?

The Louis Vuitton African Queen comes in two colors, Gold and Bronze, for $1,530.

DO YOU LOVE IT OR HATE IT?

  1. This bag doesn’t bother me, but I prefer the more simple version from the F/W 2007 collection. And yes, a bag like this needs to be held against a very simple outfit – certainly not something else that’s metallic.

  2. I agree that the dress is too busy for the bag but I own the bag and I love it. It is very original and one of a kind.

  3. i don’t like it. the size is too big. i’m not a big fan of oversize clutch. It’s not convenience to use it.

if it’s a bit smaller, i think i’ll buy it! but the size is too big…esp i’m only 5’2”, i’ll look funny with it. 🙁

  4. Slob. I also agree that it is not the right bag for that dress. It does not seem to be sturdy in holding it’s shape, and less so pictured with Miranda. She looks like she is carrying a gold plastic bag.

  5. I agree with Michelle – the size is all wrong. If it was smaller, the accents would be cute instead of overkill

  6. Definitely SLOB..and I happen to love the original limelight bag (tre chic) and own one in the limited salmon color….but my SA showed me this version a while back in an another color and i think the beads in the front is just a mess.

  7. The material reminds me of the gold reflective foil that is used to protect satellites on orbit. I’ll have to nickname this one “PURSE-SAT”.

  8. It looks like a crushed gift badly wrapped in crumpled gift wrapped paper with no care given on presentation.

  9. Slob, don’t like the color of the gold, or the wrinkles…and those beads, please. If you are looking for a cool(as in low wattage)gold, with just enough extra, but not too much, check out the fall line at Jimmy Choo. I normally think the Choo bags are too busy, but this little number is terrific, and they have priced it right!

Kelly, check them out and let us know what you think.

  10. I actually kinda like it! The bag fits with the Louis Vuitton Spicy Sandals, which I think is great, but the original limelight’s are more prettier..

  11. I generally love metallic bags but the texturing is too much here. I am also not digging the unstructured slouchiness and I agree with Kimberly that it looks like a gold plastic bag. That said – there is still something appealing about the cheekiness of the closure.

  12. I personally think it rocks when worn properly. I have the purple color and LOVE IT! I wear it with many things – day or night, but I always wear flashier bags and jewelry and it works for me because my personality is bold. It is all a matter of how comfortable and confident you are when you wear things. I like the gold, but I don’t wear yellow gold at all, so I think I can pull off the purple much easier. The large size and the beads make the whole thing for me.
