After I compared the Mulberry Alexa bag to the Proenza PS1, many Mulberry fans protested and asked that I delve further into the history of this bag. Mulberry sent me a brief lesson on how it evolved from a vintage Mulberry manbag to the now sold out Alexa bag and I have to admit I was wrong– it’s inspiration is from its own archive and the the quirky Ms. Chung, not the PS1. As many of you already know, Alexa Chung, a longtime fan of Mulberry, was photographed often in one of the brand’s men’s briefcases, the Elkington. This bag is a classic Mulberry icon that was designed over 10 years ago. Emma Hill, the creative director thought it would be great to up date the iconic Bayswater, and the Alexa bag was born. The rest, as they say, is history… for the Alexa has sold out– you can find shiny leopard versions at Mulberry.com or on the Alexa Clutch on Shopbop but my advice is to wait for the leather version to be re-issued.
