OPI Matte Nail Polish

opi_matte_polish.jpg

The OPI matte nail polish destroyed my nails. I have super strong nails that take quite a beating to break. After one use of the matte polish, my nails have been dried out and they are cracking and peeling off in layers until my nails are wafer thin. I had to cut all my nails down to the nubs to avoid further injury. Aside from the damaging effects, it looks terrible – like concrete. It’s just nails on a chalk board every time I look at it. And it does not go on smoothly so there are ridges and bumps (done by a nail professional who normally does a great job!!). It also started chipping after one day!! It says not to use “base coat, top coat, drying products, or hand lotion when wearing Matte”. No lotion? How is that possible? I know this trend didn’t take off, thus, not exactly a “trend” but in case you’re curious and wanted to experiment – consider yourself forewarned!!! At OPI.

  1. So sorry for your experience.

The idea of wearing matte polish never appealed to me. So there was no way I was going to try it. However, based on your reviews they sound horrible!! Looks like a I really dodged a bullet

  2. Good thing I didn’t buy the nail polish from Sephora last weekend. There was a color I like on sale and I thought about it for a bit..but sorry about your experience!

  3. I have been using the opi matte and NEVER had an issue with it. They market it as a one day wear thing that’s why it’s chipping. You obviously haven’t looked at swatchs of it online. That’s how it goes on. It’s not something that any one would pay someone to use at a Mani unless you had a base and top coat put on as well. Which you can and it looks amazing.

  4. I have used it with a base coat, but no top coat. When I used the deep blue without a base coat, it didn’t stain my nails.

    I’ve not had a problem.

You can’t put it on under a ceiling fan, as it dries too quickly.

I recently put it on top of my pedicure (which was weeks old) and it has lasted close to two weeks since then. I didn’t put another top coat on. It filled in where the first pedicure had grown out. Looked completely fresh. I figured it would work better on my feet than my hands, and it has.
