Max Mara Margaux Bag

maxmara.jpg

Max Mara is known more for its refined elegance than conspicuous consumption, so it’s no surprise the Italian brand’s hallmark fall bag follows suit in that understated spirit. The Margaux tote, recently unveiled during Paris Fashion Week at Max Mara’s revamped Paris boutique, was designed with utility and function in mind. The maxisized tote–so named because it was purposefully designed to be large enough to fit one of the brand’s new Atelier collection of high-end coats, was created for the on-the-go professional woman. Max Mara calls the Margaux their first authentic coat-bag, and I do admit it’s quite a novel caveat that I’m surprised hasn’t been thought of before–lest heavily promoted. While I imagine you’d have to fold your Max Mara coat pretty neatly to fit it in just right, I wonder if it would make the tote’s asymmetric handles too heavy to carry on the shoulder. Note the bag’s dual fastening system (fully closable using the zipper, partially open using the ring fastening) that allows easy access to the contents yet remains always discreet to prying eyes. Available in a classic color palette ranging from black and tan to red and violet (the lining boasts the Max Mara logo), it’s the quintessential hold-all for all occasions. For those whose needs don’t require a coat carry-all, a smaller version is also available.

The Margaux large is $1,065 & the medium is $1,045; available at Max Mara boutiques.

  1. I wholeheartedly agree with sylvie– It looks like the Kelly.

That being said, I love the idea of creating a bag with space for a coat– I’ve often found myself in a situation where I’m laying my coat over my bag and carrying it around…
