Bethenny Frankel’s Skinnygirl Margarita

I’m a total Bravo addict…Kell On Earth, Top Chef, Millionaire Matchmaker — love them all! My absolute fave though is the Real Housewives of NYC (I actually live 3 blocks from Jill Zarin and have been to her apartment — she has a son around my age — and yes, it’s as fabulously tacky as it appears on TV!). My fave character however is Bethenny Frankel. This season especially she proves that she is the only level-headed person on the show as she deals with drama after drama while rocking a SMOCKING HOT bod. As anyone who watches the show knows she is a natural foods chef and the creator of Skinnygirl Margarita. Frankel recently bottled the Skinnygirl Margarita which is about as guilt-free as alcohol will get at 100 calories per serving (equivalent to a glass of wine). Skinnygirl Margaritas are mixed with premium Blue Agave clear tequila, a hint of agave nectar, fresh lime juice and a tiny splash of Triple Sec. The pre-mixed cocktail is ready to serve over ice – no additional tequila needs to be added; this is a full strength margarita. Sticking to one serving however may prove to be a problem, so we got some tips from the recently married Frankel on how to be as healthful as possible while indulging in some cocktails…Jump for her tips!

“Although we’d all love to be puritanical, the reality is we love a good cocktail. Don’t beat yourself up. Indulge but don’t overdo it. Drink but know how, what and when to drink.

Always drink cocktails with clear liquor. All of my Skinnygirl cocktails are made with my fixologist formula (in “The Skinnygirl Dish”), so your jeans won’t be tight and your head won’t be throbbing.

The Skinnygirl margarita found in liquor stores nationwide has only 100 calories per serving so that’s a great choice.

Try to limit yourself to no more than 2 cocktails (3 on a rare occasion) and drink water and club soda in between. End the night with water no matter how lazy you are.

Combine booze with healthy high protein snacks. Chips, ice cream and donuts will be adding sugar to sugar. Turkey, a handful of nuts, nut butter, shrimp cocktail or hummus on whole grain bread or edamame are great choices.

Your diet is a bank account so if you spend on booze, eliminate bread, pasta or dessert. Otherwise have a small bite of each.”
