Christy Turlington Burns in Zero + Maria Cornejo

Fashion hit a high note this past weekend at the Tribeca Film Festival courtesy of none other than the stunning Christy Turlington Burns. The actress, model, activist, mom and yogi took the red carpet by storm in back-to-back ensembles by the amazingly talented Maria Cornejo (a Michelle Obama fave). For the premiere of “Nice Guy Johnny,” written and directed by her handsome husband Ed Burns, Christy took a fashion risk and it paid off beautifully: she sported a Zero + Maria Cornejo IDC dress from the designer’s Fall 2010 collection with the label’s Spring 2010 collection narrow cage belt (the shoes are Alaïa). Fun fact: the eye-catching print on the press was inspired by a photo of autumn leaves that Cornejo herself took with her iPhone. What I love most about this dress, aside from being price-friendly, is the bold juxtaposition of print vs. solid. The line separating the two cuts her at a diagonal that elongates her while at the same time keeping her fresh and elegant.

The next day, Christy once again hit the red carpet, this time to celebrate the debut of “No Woman No Cry,” a documentary she directed on prenatal care (a topic close to her heart). For the more serious topic at hand, she chose a dress that meant business but translated with a fashionable twist. Zero + Maria Cornejo’s Cuttle Fish dress in navy nova twill cut a flattering look on her toned body, emphasized by the same belt she wore the day before. The nude sandals, also Alaïa, added a nice neutral tone to her otherwise dark outfit. Christy has beautiful shoulders, which were emphasized nicely by the emphasis on that region thanks to the puffed sleeves. She may have been posing for photographers on the red carpet, but this outfit would look just at home on the steps of Capitol Hill.

Cuttle Fish dress ($616) and belt ($275) available at Zero + Maria Cornejo (33 Bleecker Street, 212-925-3849); the IDC dress ($715) will arrive in July.
