Zoe Saldana in Lanvin

Somewhere, Alber Elbaz must be smiling. After all, how could he not be after one look at how Zoe Saldana rocked it in his designs? The sample-sized actress did Lanvin justice Monday night at the L.A. premiere of “Death At A Funeral” when she turned up in the label’s citrus orange cocktail dress which she accessorized with a gold mesh and crystal belt. At Lanvin, it’s all about the drape–something which this dress clearly exemplifies. Note the gathered silk at the waist that cascades down one side, the juxtaposition of the thin versus thick shoulder straps up top and the cross-body cascade of loose pleats at the bodice. I also love the feminine cut of the bottom and how it skims the knee just so. It accentuates her legs without being too revealing–something which much of Young Hollywood could learn from. This delicateness of the crystal belt is something also to be considered. It’s lightweight and slim–worn in this case solely to accentuate Saldana’s waist and to create the illusion of an hour-glass. No, not an easy dress to wear simply because all the components have to fall in the right places (my guess is there was some double-sided tape action happening here to make it look this perfect). But who said looking good was easy? After all, it takes a village, right?
