Rachel Roy in Salvatore Ferragamo

rachel_roy.jpg

When it comes to style, Rachel Roy has an understated chicness about her that is truly unparalleled. While her height and slim frame undoubtedly help her fit into even the most outlandish of outfits, it’s her accessories–shoes, jewelry and lady-like bags–that she counts on for that perfect exclamation point. Case in point: at a book party for Candace Bushnell last week, the designer pulled out of her closet one of her favorite bags–a vintage Salvatore Ferragamo ring lizard top handle bag that dates back about half a dozen years ago. “It’s chic and goes with everything,” Rachel told me. “And I love the closure.” I couldn’t agree more. Ferragamo has always made some of the most refined top handle bags in the rarefied accessories market. Isn’t Rachel’s version gorgeous? I love the ring lizard print and texture–not to mention the truly unique closure, a welcome alternative to the iconic Gancini closure. While the bag is considered vintage and thus no longer available for sale, it’s refreshing to see an example of a bag that, when designed with thought and craftsmanship, remains thoroughly modern even years later.

  1. I have to agree. I laughed when i read “vintage” is 6 years! And I used to think vintage was from my grandmother’s era!
