For a woman as busy as the lovely Salma Hayek, finding a properly-fitting gown that isn’t too fabric cumbersome can often be a challenge. Not anymore! The Latina simply dazzled at the “Robin Hood” premiere at the start of the 63rd-annual Cannes Film Festival Wednesday in a gorgeous Gucci gown. What makes this stunner unique is that it’s, well, unique–a one-of-a-kind couture gown from the new Gucci Première collection designed by creative director Frida Giannini. Hayek floor length Bordeaux silk georgette one shoulder gown with hip, back and shoulder drape detail featured some splendid deep red crystal embroidery at the shoulder and waist (note detail shot) that immediately drew my eyes away from her bust and to her other fine features. Red is a fabulous color on Hayek! Then again, even if her husband wasn’t the owner of Gucci Group (Gucci’s parent company), she would nevertheless have been a major get for the Florentine luxury goods house. With a tiny waist, the ruching on this gown could not have been more suited to her frame. The asymmetrical double cut along the shoulder actually reduced her top heavy appearance, giving her a slender, streamlined result that looked as light as air when she walked. She complemented her look with subdued accessories–Gucci black satin peep toe heels and a Gucci black satin clutch–making sure her gown remained the center of attention. Giannini has clearly gotten off to a great start with her new couture service; let’s hope the momentum remains strong as the economy rebounds.
