The big news at this afternoon’s Oscar de la Renta resort show was the introduction of the iconic American label’s first-ever iPad case! Oscar described it as an “espresso leather mosaico embroidered iPad ‘clutch'” that he paired with a navy, ivory and burgundy ribbon embroidered dress and ruched eel slingback. “I recently ordered an iPad and it will take 10 days to deliver,” the designer said. “I think it will change completely the way I look at things.” His son-in-law, and company CEO Alex Bolen, agreed. “Oscar, my wife [Eliza Reed Bolen] and I all ordered the iPad,” he said, “but I may need a less adorned iPad case!” (iPad cases are limited edition, only 100 will be produced! Aside from the iPad case, the lineup of feminine, beautifully embroidered clutches was classic Oscar all the way. One interesting new bag came in the form of an oversized beach tote. In lieu of red, Oscar calls it “cinnabar” and mixed it with white in a kaleidoscope silk faille pattern. Several of the clutches for resort are done in a “roll” look–almost like you would store your jewelry in it and store it in your carryon. A black denim tweed raffia embroidered “roll” clutch was super chic, but I really liked the multi-color silk organza embroidered pochette shown here, as well as the cork crochet embroidered Grafton clutch (the greens really pop!)

  1. Love the ikat fabric on the fuschia and organza clutch. its such a shame it is covered up by the giant cartoon broccoli. Same for the cork bag. Why the weird tree embroidery? Bag on top left is also super chic!
