Super Fruit: The Coconut

I want to talk about a fabulous fruit, that is often overlooked despite it’s amazing health benefits. The coconut. According to Hindu mythology, coconut water is meant to cure all the ills in the world! Wow! That’s a tall order! I can’t say for sure that this friendly fruit can cure the worlds illnesses but Coconut water/juice/milk (different people use different names) is a super-food filled with minerals, vitamins, antioxidants, amino acids, enzymes and growth factors. It’s also low in fat and sugars compared to other fruit juices. The primary minerals or electrolytes in coconut water are essentially the same as those found in human blood.

If these characteristics weren’t impressive enough, by fermenting the water from a young coconut, this process is called coconut kefir, you have a Super drink in that the fermented water is an awesome source of probiotics! This “kefir” is a blend of several different bacterias and yeast which in turn is especially great for women who suffer from candida/yeast infections. Beneficial yeast is full of B vitamins, which has been noted to be a deficiency in some RAW foodists who don’t take supplements.

If you’re interested in making your own coconut kefir, there is a step by step instruction page with pictures on the Body Ecology website on how to create coconut water kefir:

  1. MMM… I LOVE coconut juice. Which reminds me, I better go pick up a couple cases at the market to store in the fridge. Fabulous for the summertime!

  2. Looks and sounds amazing! Can’t wait to try. Quick question: the link leads me to a trojan horse which is thankfully blocked by my anti-virus software. However the bodyecology website looks very interesting.. Please let the webmaster’s know about this problem. Also, is you could point me to any other worthwhile resources on the above topic and wellness in general, that would be great 🙂

    Thanks for the inspiration!

  3. Thanks for letting me know about the link Heba, I made a note of it.

I’m not sure what topic you wanted to know about, coconut kefir or candida? There are many wellness resources out there, it just depends what you were interested in knowing about the most. I would be glad to share any information I have with you!
