Chanel Fall 2010 Cocoon Bags

Now that Chanel has permanently added the Cocoon collection to its lineup of bags, they’re finally experimenting with some unique fabrications and color combinations for fall. First up is this STUNNING Coco Cocoon bowling bag: it’s based on the premise of the classic bowler’s shape but fashioned in waxed soft alligator with leather trim and white metal accents. Yes, it’s beyond expensive ($52,260) but oh-so worth it if you have the funds. The second bag I love from the fall collection is the Coco Cocoon handbag in a petrol blue orylag fur with lambskin and white metal accents ($7,295). It’s clearly more fashion-forward than the first bag I highlighted, but I love it for its unique combination and color. Both bags have plenty of room for everything, but what I love most are their big, thick handles that give the bags a casual feel to them–perfect for weekends or as, dare I say, the ultimate gym bag.

  1. Jim, these bags are great. I have been carrying Chanel bags a long time and they are my first love. but the prices now are just beyond crazy. I appreciate workmanship, etc, but why are the bags going up every few months? I’,m not talking about expensive croc or reptile. I mean just the lambskin or caviar flap bags. I would love your input.

  2. I love the cocoon bags. Unfortunately, I can’t afford one. Aside from that, my oldest son told me that they look like parachutes.

  3. I love the Cocoon line – a man can carry it. I have the hugest of the huge totes for a weekender in the new matte black for Fall ’10 that is just fine for a man. Now you have me thinking about the “ultimate gym bag” – those bowlers come in black nylon too. I do feel sorry for you ladies – the prices for the classic flaps are BEYOND outrageous now. 4K for a classic caviar jumbo? BAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

  4. I recall an article stating there were complaints from long-term customers that the bags had became too “accessible”. Perhaps it’s a move on Chanel’s part to become “exclusive” once again.

  5. Jim I love love your blog even when I disagree with you as you are a terrific writer:) I also LOVE love Chanel, but I was never that excited over the cocoon line as they remind me the puffy michelin man, and these two bags are nothing to write home about. For that price, I rather get a croc Hermes Birkin.

I agree with Sherry re the insanity of the prices of Chanel now and the ones who will be buying this will either be a celebrity or some girlfriend/wife of some oligart.

  6. No bag I repeat no bag is worth 50K or even 7K for that matter (the actual material costs are insanely less). I mean really a luxury car takes much more time, talent, and energy, to produce.
