From last season’s over the rainbow aesthetic arrives sunnier climes for Marc Jacobs. For spring, the designer turned his Lexington Avenue Armory venue into a huge gold lampshade-inspired drum that set the tone for a gleeful return to all things happy. Some quick thoughts to mind included Vanessa Paradis, Jodie Foster in “Taxi Driver,” and the artwork of illustrator Antonio Lopez–what with the curly hair, the wide brim hats and the high-waists/small tops combination. It was, through and through, a bonafide 70s moment. Saturated with rich colors and set to the music of Vivaldi’s “Summer,” from “The Four Seasons,” there were obvious references to the European greats–including Sonia Rykiel, Chanel, YSL and Missoni. While last fall’s collection was more directional, this one had a sense of relaxed glamour that stretched from the tailored pant suits and shorts to oversized peasant dresses and zig-zag pattern cardigans.
