I am making no comments about Jesus one way or another, it is my job to bring you interesting bags that you might not have seen. And this one is definitely interesting. These are really beautifully simple clutches with quite a brutal (and giant!) interpretation of Jesus on the cross. This isn’t pretty Jesus with long flowing hair, this is starved and suffering Jesus complete with details of nails in his hands and feet. I asked the designer if he is religious and he said he is not – it is meant to go either way, to be ironic (as Madonna did) or devout (I can’t image anyone doing that, my mother-in-law is a devout Catholic and if she saw this she would be mortified). Madonna was seen with this bag but of course that makes perfect sense. The brand is also doing a day bag for Spring with straps made of rosary beads. I wonder what happens when the novelty wears off, with a name like Our Lord & Savior, it is kinda difficult to diversify. By special orders only, for price and purchasing contact Jason.

  1. Is Madonna still practicing Kabbalah? If so, this seems in pretty poor taste…I don’t think most Jews would carry around a pricey Crucifixion accessory(?)

  2. this is disgusting and speaking as a Catholic (and to be honest…not that devout of one) highly offensive. If they had the rosary beads I will be horrified. People have no morals these days…they’ll do anything just to shock people or “make a statement.”

  3. You disgust me for even promoting this crap…shame on you BagSnob…you wouldn’t have shown it if it was a Star of David or the prophet Mohoammed and you know it. And you say it’s interesting? HAHAHAHA…it’s a plain python bag, and the “designer” decided to put a crucifix on it for press and that’s it. BagSnobs, please do not promote mockery of any religion…again, SHAME ON YOU

  4. Are people out of their mind? The clutch is BEAUTIFUL! It’s a great shape, timeless with a couture sculpture of Jesus..Now agreed, it is not for everyone, but I assume it is more for a niche market,…Elle Style Director Kate Lanphear has also been wearing the clutch around the shows! Did anyone see this past Givenchy men’s show? Take a look…Even YSL had Christian iconography. Do people protest Chrome HEartS? This design is no different than a large crucifix around someone’s neck, like Pamela Love’s necklaces, or the rosary necklace Beyonce wears…or Kanye West, who had his Jesus head paved with diamonds. What’s the difference? This bag is exquisite and those that do not appreciate it should be ashamed of themselves. Get a grip people it’s just a clutch showcasing a piece of jewelry.

  5. I’ve read the prior comments and find some of them ridiculous. Wearing a cross on your handbag is no more or less “disgusting” than hanging one around your neck or on your earlobes. Perhaps one of the designers next collections might include other religious symbols like the Star of David, a Mezuzah, or a Torah Pointer which would be awesome. I think this line from Our Lord & Savior looks simple, elegant, and classy. Most people like to blend in but toting this bag around is a standout.

  6. I would have to agree with all the comments that “P” wrote. What IS wrong with everyone??? Why is it acceptable to wear a cross around your neck but NOT on a handbag?

AND I am Jewish and have an appreciation for fashion AND I would LOVE to own a Lord & Saviour bag.

  7. So Kelly…you say the bag is interesting. You say that it’s a BEAUTIFUL, simple clutch with DETAILS. I don’t think that the designer is targeting your mother-in-law as a buyer for this bag.

So who cares if she would be mortified by it? Not me.

And I’m wondering why you think it would make sense that Madonna wore it? Madonna: born a Catholic and turned to Kabbalah.

    Madonna: a fashion icon!

  8. Wow, you secular humanists are really ignorant and just don’t understand the sacredness of objects to some communities (the BagSnobs obviously worship at the altar of secular humanism). Any sacred object out of it’s context promotes mockery. Jesus Christ is God to some people and thus should not be taken out of his context. Wearing a simple crucifix around one’s neck is a sign of someone’s religion – wearing a rosary as a decoration is scareligious and people do it as a mockery. As I said, this simple clutch would never have been done with a Star of David or the prophet Mohammed and if it had been the BagSnobs would not have provided it with press. And the BagSnobs will be too cowardly to even apologize for this post because they apparently have no qualms about promoting mockery of Chritianity.

  9. I don’t find this a mockery. To each his own, I say, and I am a Christian. This bag is not for everyone. For me, it’s no different than someone wearing a cross around their neck. This is just another way to show your faith.

I also don’t see this as a Bag Snob making a mockery of Christianity. This is blog about handbags. This is solely for the review of the bag not someone’s religious convictions.

I wouldn’t wear the bag, and it has nothing to do with a mockery of my religion. The bag itself is beautiful, but I find the cross to be too big, and it looks very heavy.]

I don’t think that Bag Snob owes anyone an apology. I think that some of you should apologize for being so narrow minded and holier than thou.

  10. Well, until the BagSnobs email me an apology for promoting mockery of religion and not showing greater sensitivity in what they choose to blog about, I will never be visiting their website again…and I’ve been around this website a heck of a lot longer then everyone else here. The BagSnobs are dead to me until they choose to resurrect themselves.

  11. I need not respond as you said it for me right here. This is a site about bags and this is a bag that is being sold so I covered it. I did not design this, nor do I promote or denigrate any meaning behind it. I know religion is a touchy subject and I tried to steer clear of that aspect of this bag. I am sorry ManBag that you are offended but I did nothing wrong here except do my job bringing “things of interest” to my blog. And by the reactions here, this does seem to be a thing of interest.

    Love, Kelly

  12. And yet you can use the word “ressurect,” I’m sure pun intended, in such a careless way…Baffling, can we say hypocritical a bit?…

  13. My first reaction to the photos of this bag was that it would make a very pretty missal cover/carrier. I think the symbolism/meaning of the crucifix on the bag would be in the heart of whoever carries the bag. To someone who is Catholic and loves fashion, this might just be the thing.

  14. This is the true meaning of a luxury handbag, regardless of one’s religion. The design and quality are undoubtedly superb! Well done Kelly for bringing it to the blog…

  15. I think motive is always the question to ask. Just like any true piece of art, the interpretation can go many ways. If a Catholic wears this but “feels” like it is sacraligious, then they should not wear it. If another Catholic wears it and feels strengthened in their faith by it then comendations to them for wearing it. As far as wearing it with the intention of it being sacraligious… my prayer would be that somehow the authentic meaning of the cross: “Christ so Loved the world (all people in the world including you and I) that He laid down His life for us” soften the heart of whoever is wearing it.

  16. Many thanks for this sane posting – I agree wholeheartedly that the bag is terrific, and that it is also important to consider others who are using religious iconography before jumping on Madonna or anyone reporting about this bag.
