Reed Krakoff Boxer II Shark Tote

Coach’s strategy for entering the upper luxury market is launching their creative director Reed Krakoff’s namesake line. His Fall collection was shown during Fashion Week in February with much fanfare and expense – the loft space that was created cost $1 million to construct!! I know because my friends produced the show. But that’s a small price to pay to push Coach’s image into the ranks with the likes of YSL, Prada and Chloe. Besides, they banked on a sure thing. The line includes a full collection of ready to wear (which is also really good) and accessories, and by the looks of things it is already a huge hit. The look and feel easily resonate with the Coach customer but more refined and sophisticated. But more importantly, this bag appeals to those who never gave Coach a second glance. This bag has a simple shape with subtle details that’s sporty and effortless. The black shark with offsetting olive felt is uber chic and as divine as hell frozen over. If all of Coach’s bags start looking like this at Coach’s prices, they will corner 80% of the market instead of just their current 60%. At Net-a-Porter for $2950. There is an all black leather version for $1490.

  1. Unlike crocodiles / alligators / ostriches / pythons, sharks cannot be farmed and their population is depleting at a rapid rate. I usually have nothing against exotics but using sharkskin really, really push my limits. I hope Coach considers this issue…

  2. I think it’s just ok… Nothing really groundbreaking that would make people pick this over say, the PS1 (which i think this was just inspired by). It’s blah for me.

  3. timeless and elegant…love Reed he has impeccable style and taste (check out the Sept issue of Vogue) and 60% of the market is something all other handbag designers dream of 🙂

  4. This bag is heavily influenced by Celine and P/S. I’m just not drawn to the bag. I also think the price point is ridiculous. Someone needs to tell me that these bags are not made in the same factories as coach product before I even think about buying one of these pieces. Also, when I spend 3k on a bottega bag, I have a bag that beautifully crafted — a real stunner. This bag doesn’t move me. Please show the clothing collection. There were some beautiful pieces in that collection.

Do you really like this bag or are you doing a puff piece. Can’t believe you would buy this bag.
