Julianne Moore in Giorgio Armani

It’s been said before, but I’ll say it again: less is more. Julianne Moore was the epitome of that aura at the Rome International Film Festival, where she deviated from her usual group of fashion-forward Parisian designers in favor of a sublime Giorgio Armani gown. But while the dress was chic, there was nothing simple about it. Look closely: the one shoulder gown, in satin doubled in chiffon, features a grosgrain detail at the bodice. I love how it’s not your typical asymmetrical gown; the navy panels across the bodice are trimmed in black to create a “wrapped” look a la geisha girl. I also love the sheer fabric that loosely drapes off the more fitted satin part of the gown; it silhouettes the body beautifully and gives Julianne a statement-making entrance and exit. And while Julianne wears plenty of green–remember the stunning YSL Rive Gauche ruffled gown?–navy is as stunning a complement to her rich, red hair. Sometimes I think Julianne doesn’t dress her age; this elegant Armani renews my interest in her sartorial choices.
