Chanel Lumières Byzantines Limited Edition Compact

Peter Philips is a genius. Chanel Beauté’s artistic director, much like his fashion counterpart, Karl Lagerfeld, continues to reinvent the wheel season after season with some truly innovative product. The latest is the limited edition make-up palette, of which only 1,500 were made, dubbed “Lumières Byzantine.” Inspired by Lagerfeld’s recent Pre-Fall 2011 show–an ode to Istanbul and the rich Byzantine stonework aesthetic–inside the iconic Chanel compact packaging is a palette with five cream products that can be used as a highlighter or eye shadow. The gorgeous colors aside, I love how Philips set them within the compact: the colors are contained within closings that, when together, mimic the intricate Byzanite stonework from ancient centuries ago.
