Jason Wu Bags Pre-Fall 2011

Always ladylike, but with a touch of whimsy thanks to his adorable owl mascot, Jason Wu continues to be spot on (pun intended) for pre-fall. The expected ladylike bags are back–in various color and fabrication updates, natch–but it’s the unexpected that has tickled my fancy. The Miss Wu mini in red python boasts rose gold hardware ($2,350) while a more democratic calfskin version is priced at $1,395; both help expand Wu’s handbag collection to three core styles. Complementing the mini is the new $2,495 Miss Wu large bag, available in classic shades of nude and black but also in season-specific tones like electric blue and flannel fabric. The charcoal flannel, in case you were interested, is one of Jason’s obsessions–they’re featured prominently in curtain form at his gorgeous Manhattan studio–and remind him of the iconic Geoffrey Benne eighties gray flannel packaging. Rounding out the lineup? An envelope clutch perfectly suited for a night at the Met or an afternoon stroll in Central Park.

  1. Love the shoulder bags [especially the red python “Sssss…” But the other designs are drabber than a foggy day in London!

  2. Love the red skin but the bag looks funny with the metal eyes and I don’t like the shape. I like the beige clutch with the cute little owl detail. The black and grey on the bottom right and top right are kinda cute but I don’t like the duel colour of the left hand bag (top and bottom), looks like a clutch is stuck on the front.

  3. Those three little metal circles make the bag look as though it’s looking at me.

On the small, crossbody bags, I swear there are eyes and a mouth on them.
