Nicole Kidman in YSL

I fell in love with YSL’s fingerprint motif the moment I saw it on the runway in Paris last October. Fast forward a few short months and voila! To attend the 83rd Academy Awards nominations luncheon Monday, Nicole Kidman sported an Yves Saint Laurent halter dress in papaya silk chiffon with said black fingerprint motif layered under a bow blouse in matching fabric and motif. For those keeping track, it’s Look #12 from the Spring 2011 runway show. While the silhouette is very Kidman, it’s also flattering–which can’t be said for all of her sartorial choices. I like the below-the-knee skirt cut on Kidman; she’s tall enough to pull it off without it looking too dowdy. One has to look carefully to really even notice that the subtle black print is that of hundreds of fingerprints. While it can seem a bit creepy–thoughts of “CSI” anyone?–at this large number of prints combined with their modest size, it manages to pass for a chic look.

Dress, $2550, and blouse, $2390, available at select YSL boutiques.
