Prabal Gurung Fall 2011

Following a spring that was all sporty all the time, Prabal Gurung returned to his roots–and what fabulous ones they are–for fall. The results paid dividends. Inspired by the Dicken’s novel Great Expectations and its main character Miss Havisham, and with a runway that comprised pink-and-beige stucco, the collection breathed a new luxe life with a decidedly uptown spirit. Lace, fur and embroidery were abound, rich in red, floating in feathers and tailored in the form of tuxedo looks. The wave of eveningwear was diverse, but all a delight. John Singer Sargent’s “A Parisian Beggar Girl” was also evident in look one: a stunning hand-draped washed silk faille dress with exposed cotton tulle bustier that draped so effortlessly on Karlie Kloss. Gurung even went out on a limb, sending out racy leather pieces and also a harness over a froth of feathers. This collection defined Gurung in a few simple, but profound, adjectives: modern, youthful, polished.
