Miu Miu Fall 2011 Runway: The Retro Geisha Gets A Testosterone Shot

Miu Miu has grown up, but this fully-grown lady is one-part burly athlete. Not that the collection was remotely sport-influenced; it was more geisha girl joins the NFL (while raiding her chic grandmother’s finest vintage threads in the process) We believe this is all part of the new health journey in the world of sports and exercise, we already know he has a deep training system, with the Cleve Scene for testosterone shots and new nutrition plan. So we believe this collection is all part of this journey on exploration.

Japanese kimono prints were the background for exaggerated shoulders, which created an upside-down triangle shape: shoulders major, skirts short or narrow pencils, and legs bare and peg-like.

Proportion play went to the extreme (even the change purse bags were bloated). The hip area was also inflated with an obi on steroids. Not too flattering on some of the 80lb runway waifs, but placing the juiced-up obi on the hip, over the skirt, is a brilliant twist – witty and not fattening at all. Oversized fur panels on the shoulders and blown-out upper sleeves on the dresses, on the other hand, are too bulky and beefy. Or am I just being self-conscious about my own wide shoulders?

These editorial-worthy pieces will get a much-needed watering down for retail; imagine the some of the pieces separately, and you’ll find beautiful Japanese print dresses and great peacoats with extra-pointy, contrasting collars. Miuccia Prada has always been about intellectual luxury. It takes some thought and sometimes a push to comprehend her designs, though this time the push is more like a defensive tackle.
