Alexander Wang Wrap Front Cropped Pants: The Summer of the Skant?

Alexander_wang_Wrap_Front_Cropped_Pant.png

Is it a pant or skirt? Perhaps a skort? Or even a kilt…Whatever Alexander Wang has whipped up for our lower halves, it’s relaxed summer wear with style to spare. Technically a half-skirt over cropped pants, so I guess I’ll call it a skant. (Never thought I’d like something called a “skant”!) Cinch the belt tight for a dressier skirt-like approach or leave it loose and flaunt your pant legs – either way this is the most modern take on pants I’ve seen in awhile.

This kind of summer bootie is fab if you have Heidi Klum’s legs. But if your gams are not of superhero proportions, strappy heels will elongate rather than stump them in a length like this. Keep things minimal and go for a soft fluid top for the full runway look. These pants, a smidge Comme des Garçons and a dash Helmut Lang in their earlier years, are as modern as it gets, simply because Wang knows that it’s the subtleties of cut that take a piece from weird to awesome. All hail the skant! At ShopBop for $585.

Pair with: Diane von Furstenberg’s “Voleta” rope-tie sandals can also go a number of ways. Casual, dressy, avant garde or demure: with Alex’s skant and Diane’s heels, you’re the master of your style destiny.

  1. I totally have a pair of these from a flea market in Thailand. It’s shockingly comfortable and I never worry about accidentally flashing someone should the wind pick up =P

  2. The combination of these pants and booties would make my already short legs look ridiculous! I don’t think I could pull this off. Maybe with sandals.
