Balenciaga Espadrille Wedge: From the Beach to the Street

balenciaga_espadrille_wedge.png

Holy height! Every now and again you encounter the rare espadrille that reads as anything but your typical beachy, nonchalant sandal. Not that Balenciaga’s eclectic cocktail of oxford-worthy perforated straps, nautical stripes, and far-out color combination isn’t as happy-go-lucky as it gets. At just under 5.5 inches, this isn’t the highest heel I have ever admired, but the thick horizontal stripes and dangerous curve create the illusion of a mega-wedge. While I tend to get a little self-conscious adding nearly half a foot to my height (you won’t see me go far past a four-incher), I know some women (ahem, Tina!) are all about it. A closed back and intricate multi-straps juxtaposed against rustic seaside rope makes this ideal for cruising the promenades of St. Tropez. Also ideal? A private jet! At Barneys New York for $725.

Pair with: Jetsetting demands a roomy bag – Bottega Veneta’s Intrecciato white tote is the most luxurious summer carryall I’ve seen this season. Bottega Veneta Intrecciato Leather Tote, $6,800.
