Dolce & Gabbana Raffia and Nappa Top Handle: My Raffia Doesn’t Need Any Little Buddies

What is it with bags on bags lately? First Lanvin, then Jerome Dreyfuss, and now the esteemed Dolce & Gabbana have joined the bag-wagon. Conceptually, when considering function, a coin purse attached to the outside of your bag makes sense. It would be super-convenient to just pop that sucker open and grab your money or credit card. In aesthetic practice, it just looks like a malignant growth. So not the look I’m going for this summer!

Now if you are so dedicated to being practical that you’re willing to forsake style and wear your purse on your bag’s sleeve, then why Dolce & Gabbana? I mean, the brand is for anyone but the pragmatic. If you are that person – well, then I probably don’t know you very well – you should just go and get that infomercial purse, The Buxton

Whoa! Now back to reality. Coin purse aside, this raffia tote is kind of cute. I love those irregular straps, giving this shopper a more interesting, off-kilter shape, and there’s something so pleasing about the texture of raffia. Domenico and Stefano, why can’t you just attach the purse to the inside? I’m even okay with it sitting on the strap! On Luisa Via Roma for $1532.60.

  1. I actually saw one of these kangaroo bags in the wild last Sat night when I went out to dinner (not sure which one, but there was a lot of fringe involved, as well as the attached baby bag growth) and it looked ridiculous. Absolutely too much going on – definitely a “trying too hard” look. Hope this is a trend that dies quickly (but it’s not looking that way . . . )
