Shiseido Sun Protection Stick Foundation with SPF 35: Here Comes the Shade

shiseido_sun_protection.jpg

The next best thing to a coating of Zinc oxide (not that there’s anything great about looking like you stuck your nose in a container of Cool-Whip), Shiseido’s Sun Protection Stick Foundation is full-on protection from the sun, like being in the shade. And I do mean full.

This is what my cousins and I use when we’re playing golf – five-plus hours in the sun is brutal on the complexion and staying “fair” on the fairway is no easy task. After much experimentation with every sunscreen in existence, I found this to work best for three sunny days of golf a week (not me; I don’t have that kind of time, but my cousins do!). Just don’t let the sporty packaging fool you: there is nothing subtle or natural about this stick. You will look like you have a ton of makeup on.

You might think that Shiseido’s non-foundation sunscreen stick might be shrewder choice – not at all! I used it and the effect was ridiculous. So thick you can’t even rub it in, my face was bright white. While the foundation-based formula is a more blend-able bet, it’s still very, very mask-like. This protector is a powerful ally for those fearful of sun damage (like myself), but you have to feel comfortable looking rather dramatic. Kind of like the cast member of a bad high school musical production. It all depends if you’re more concerned with short-term or long-term vanity! At Nordstrom for $26.50.

  1. I have used this product for years; it’s one of the few items I purchase again and again. BUT… I DON’T use it as a foundation. I use it as an under-eye concealer and to cover a couple of scars that need extra protection from the sun. Used this way, IMHO it is a superb product.
