Wide-Legged Pants: Open Wide!

Super_wide_legged_pants1.png

So you’ve got your supply of super-duper platform heels. Now what? Wide pants of course! A fluid, sweet combination like milk and honey, one complements the other. Wide pants a la retro seventies or sailor chic seem to make a reemergence every summer; for summer 2011, they are a must.

Let’s get things straight: flowy, wide pants are not the same as tight, flared jeans, which can make your legs look stocky if your thighs are not up to par. Pants with extra length, volume, and glide mean your legs will gain length and glamour. And don’t assume you have to be tall to pull this off. Just look at Rachel Zoe: it’s all about the heel height and making sure the hem is as long as your heels are tall!

Rick Owen‘s crepe jersey pants ($529 from $890) have a high waist, slashed pockets, and loads of movement, for a groovy rocker vibe. Shiny or matte navy? Take your pick between satin twill ($159 from $390) by theyskens’ theory or Altuzarra‘s satin-blend crease-front trousers ($749 from $1,250). Alice + Olivia‘s version ($286) have some stretch and lower waist for relaxed ease.

Meanwhile, you can’t beat the comfort level of a loose-fitting pant. Pick anyone of these full legs, strut out, and instantly look like an off-duty model.

  1. I LOVE wide-leg pants. I wear them even when they are not “in”, but now that they are, I may be stocking up! I’m 5’2″ and they make me look super-tall with a nice platform heel.
