Nina Ricci Tiered Ruffle Dress: Come What May…I Will Wear You

There are two ways to be “red carpet-ready.” The first is to actually make an appearance on the red carpet, dressed to the nines; the second is to have the eye to recognize this frothy Nina Ricci gown when you spot your favorite celeb posing in front of paparazzi. Trust me, this dress is going to show up. It’s got everything you could possibly want in a showstopper gown when the cameras are flashing. Mystique and flair to spare, which I love, yet it is so dainty and demure – a rarity for such a bold color. Finally, finishing the drama is a mild train.

With all the tiered layers – pure old-time Parisian glam – it reminds me of something Satine would wear in “Moulin Rouge,” only my very favorite movie of ALL time. The (lucky) woman who wears this is an instant femme fatale who’s simultaneously girly and playful. The cherry on top? It’s easy to wear. Unlike some gowns, with impossible body requirements, this is pretty forgiving: the waist is cinched and the ruffles at the underarms hide unsightly flab, not a concern for most celebs but we all obsess over some bodily imperfection. If I were getting married again (as in vow renewal, not trading in for a new model!), this silk-organza confection is what I would wear! Just a little Snob factoid, Tina sang “Come What May” at my wedding! At Barneys New York for $7,390.

Pair with: A gown so rare warrants unusual earrings. Dean Harris‘ “Axe Head” drop earrings, made of silver-coated druzy agate, will sparkle off the red carpet and into the night. At Barneys New York for $940.
