Pierre Hardy Two-Tone Suede Wedge Sandals: Good Shoes Come to Those Who Wait

pierrehardy_suede_wedge_sandals.jpg

I swooned over a similar design of this Pierre Hardy wedge sandal a few months ago, but I found the toe strap to be super-painful. It is too narrow, so it cut into the edge of my big and little toes. As much as I yearned to take them home, I know they would sit sad and untouched at the thought of the pain I would endure upon wear.

Well, some good things come with age! Experience has made me a wiser shopper, so I resisted and it paid off. The fall version of the two-tone platform has got the problem solved with a thicker, contoured strap. Plus, suede is pliable, comfy, and easy to break in. The color-blocking is nowhere nears as dramatic, which isn’t necessarily a negative – this subtler brown take is sure to be your all-around, everyday shoe. There’s even a price reduction! Since when is suede cheaper than twill?!

Just one issue remains: the way the wedge pitches. Instead of a gradual curve, the arch slopes down suddenly so your entire foot is propelled forward. The thick strap guards against total forward motion, but I still think Pierre Hardy needs to go back to the drawing board and rethink the mold. In the meantime, I’m going to snap these up anyway. Gratification is mine at last! On Net-a-Porter for $595.

Pair with: A muted shoe can stand a high-octane bag. Bottega Veneta‘s “Cobra” tote is major texture to finish off a fall-perfect palette. This one’s problem? A mega price tag to match. Bottega Veneta Resina Lambskin “Cobra” Bag, $5,250.
