Marni Structured Leather Tote: Strictly Business?

Oooh! When did Marni get so serious? I’m looking for bubbles or a toss-in of unexpected texture, but nary one in sight. Just beautiful black leather, minimal hardware, and altogether work appropriateness, right? Well, being Marni you know it can’t be totally stiff, and as you examine more closely, you realize the rounded seams and corners give this tote a touch of youthfulness. (Hard edges and it would be too stone-cold sober.) Also, the fold-over flap kinda hangs open, there’s a sense of playfulness to it, as well.

This is for the grown-up with serious meetings and impressions to make, but one who doesn’t want to lose touch with who she really is: someone young and fun. I’m all for the simplest of bags – and there are some who will have nothing else. At least this one gives a wink to your lighthearted side. And remember! It’s never a crime to go classic. On Net-a-Porter for $1,210.

Pair with: Who said anything about boring? Felted tweed gets an upgrade a la Carven, with their flounced skirt. Frisky yet distinguished. At Barneys New York for $430.
