Theory Fall 2012 Collection: Easy Shapes, Essential Dresses

Call me predictable, but I shop Theory like clockwork. Every season when they deliver their new shipment, I’m there to pick out my staples before I do any other clothes shopping – I need the foundations laid before I can embellish.

This season the shapes are so easy and accommodating, I might even lose motivation at the gym. Here are your dresses for day, work, and play, all forgiving and flattering to boot. Once these bases are covered, you are free to add more specific pieces to your wardrobe, like the Alexander Wang streamer blouse. Sheer is versatile when it’s in the form of the draped-back “Brioni” dress ($295). This semi-see-through metallic knit is laidback chic, but turn around to kick it up a notch with dramatic draping. The softly ruffled “Talucy” dress ($355) can waft from holiday parties at work to holiday parties in Las Vegas – it all depends on the makeup and level of sparkle in your accessories. The sixties-inspired, leather-trimmed “Emoran” sheath ($395) is all-professional, but the spunky length allows for heels and boots to shine. Dresses that stand alone while allowing you to indulge your inner stylist: how liberating is that?
