Walter Steiger Platform Ankle Boot: Witchy Woman?

There’s a new heel in town, and she’s bold and curvy. Heels come in all shapes and incarnations these days, but the curved heel is on track to become a major trend for fall. I’m just not sure how I feel about it yet. Let’s take Walter Steiger’s suede ankle boot, for example. Head on, it’s a boot we have seen countless times: platform, moderate toe, elastic inserts. From any other angle, you can’t help but be struck by the wildly curved heel. It creates the illusion of an offset arch, a wavy effect for the whole boot, and a kind of Picasso-like wackiness. It reminds me of a witch’s nose, which has never been the look I’m going for no matter what you’re shopping for. You’ve also got to wonder about the stability level when the heel is all over the place.  But everything new requires time to achieve equilibrium.  So it is it shapely and feminine or witchy and weird? At Barneys New York for $950.
