Yves Saint Laurent Leather Lace-Up Wedge Ankle Boots: Kick Your Heels Up

icon

No, this is not the most attractive boot. Not in the least, but that doesn’t mean it won’t grab your attention. It unquestionably catches the eye, even if the overall effect is a bit of an eyesore. That accordion heel in blistering gold is mesmerizing. So fluid it’s almost liquid-like or at least air-filled, don’t you get the feeling it will compress with each step? And hopefully make some music.

But the rest of the boot, with its seamed toecap and lack of humor is a bit too Amish for me. You need something that’s a little less prudent and little more prurient for such a hot gold heel. Although I do appreciate the height – at 5.5”, they’re not messing around. This lace-up wedge would be great with pants to hide everything but that crazy sculpted seashell of a heel. That poses the question: does a heel make the shoe or does this shoe kill the heel? At Saks Fifth Avenueicon for $1,095.

Pair with: Let the straight leg of Maison Martin Margiela’s stretch-wool pants gather over the fronts of your boots and hope to flash some gold. On Net-a-Porter for $590.

  1. I like it better than the Charlotte Olympia version…but not much. I usually love YSL shoes…for fall the only pair I have thought of purchasing is the suede tall lace up wedge boot…
