Easy, breezy California dressing and the shoes to match. “Mid-century louche and luxury” is what Derek Lam was springing for with his latest collection and he envisioned “Angie Dickinson lounging by a crystal-blue pool.” Lazy, sun-filled afternoons have never looked so good! Wearable high heels (stacked wood always helps tones things down a notch, as does an eye-catching wedge) were just the thing to compliment the light leathers and carefree A-line skirts.
Some, with scalloped edges, braided straps, and cowboy boot-inspired touches, evoked a refined Wild West, while others, had cool straps reminiscent of post-modern suburban fencing. Another tri-colored sea snake wedge, an effortless color-block rendition, is a too-perfect match for the latest Anthea bag, but it’s the black-and-white wedges that are super-sick. Black-and-white shoes are set to be a major trend, and thanks to Lam, graphic two-tone has never been so swoon-worthy.
