Tiffany & Co. Fall 2012 Bags: Dinner at Tiffany’s

I fell for Tiffany & Co.’s delectable bag line from the get-go.  After-all, their choice in designers Lambertson and Truex was a match made in heaven for the brand – structured, updated classic, minimal details all backed by quality craftsmanship.  And the passion is still going strong after viewing the Fall collection at a beautiful dinner and reception at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

Richard Lambertson and John Truex were on hand to present their latest designs, featuring new styles and a fresh color palette – and introducing leopard-print pony-hair and ostrich to the mix. For me, it was the clutches that stole the show.

With hand-pressed pleats, the Vivian frame clutch exudes the refined glamour for which Tiffany is known. The pleats are hand-pressed with worthy craftsmanship you can see and feel. Oversized kiss-lock closure (palladium-plated solid brass gives it the Tiffany jewel-like look) brings a buoyant energy that I love – big scale brings a modern update to the classic feel.

A sprinkling of studs on the same body makes for her younger sister who has all the fun (and both have leather lining in trademark Tiffany Blue). Irregular and just slightly off, they look like stars dotting the night sky. Wear it with the optional shoulder chain for more ladylike function.

Vivian is charming, but the Lyn in ostrich ($1,900) is my new favorite piece. The vaguely trapezoidal shape gives this clutch a feminine flourish (flat-out boxy tends to be blunt and unappealing). The ostrich is the new-skin addition, and for this trim style, complete with trim and simple closure, it’s perfect. Even in regular leather, the Lyn’s shape holds its own – those clean, distinct lines embody luxury itself. In crocodile ($3,200), it’s what you would expect: over-the-top fabulous.

With price points so incredible (you really get a lot for what you pay), I’ll be enjoying both the bag and jewel department!  Vivian Clutches at Tiffany & Co. for $1,295 each.
