Reed Krakoff Atlantique Snakeskin and Croc-Skin Tote Bag: A Real Team-Player

icon

There is a fine line between bad, hodgepodge patchwork and well-partnered panels working together to result in “the sum is greater than the parts” appeal. Reed Krakoff has, of course, achieved the latter when it comes to this unified tote bag. It’s a mishmash, but you can’t call this patchwork – rather than being cut-up and pieced together, the leather, snakeskin, crocodile, and linen panels each exist on their own, for the greater good of the bag.

Linen as the star panel makes for a bold move. Croc would be the obvious choice but cost considerations aside, touchable linen makes for an airier feel (croc would have taken the mood in a serious, “special occasion” direction). Staying focused on shades of creams and tans is very Reed; these muted neutrals compliment each other beautifully, leaving the focus on the textures and letting that wedge of black snake really pop. It also comes with a python zip pouch: I’m sold on bags that come with this final touch – I can’t live without them now!

And that’s not the only practical detail. Exterior pockets, both large and small, make your life easier. You won’t be switching out this bag anytime soon because you’ll be addicted to the organization.  And considering you’ll have spent a few pretty pennies on it, you’ll be eager to put a lot of miles on it. At Saks Fifth Avenueicon for $7,150.

Pair with: A light lime sweater will make for an interesting play on the winter color palette. See by Chloé strikes the right chord with knitted cotton, cropped slightly at the waist so it doesn’t overwhelm. On Net-a-Porter for $340.
