Ole Henriksen and Carol’s Daughter Salt Detoxes: Take It With a Grain of Salt

Detoxes are very popular this time of year. Whole Foods has an entire display with everything you need for a master cleanse, but cleansing from the outside is also very powerful. It’s easy to forget your skin is the largest organ – did you know you shed a million skin cells a day? That amounts to 8 lbs. of dead skin a year!

Assisting your skin in removing these dead skin cells is a great detox without ever getting hungry. Salt is naturally detoxifying; I’m sure you’ve noticed that taking a dip in the ocean makes your skin super-soft.

But when I’m not hitting the beach, I do a weekly full-body detox at home. It starts off with a salt scrub. My favorite is Ole Henricksen Rub ‘N Buff ($48) – I love their entire line.

Slough off before you enter the bath. If you have sensitive skin, don’t go overboard, or getting in a bath afterwards will not be as nice and relaxing as you had intended. And it should be very soothing! With a mix of lavender, peppermint and tea tree, Carol‘s Daughter Body Aches Bath Salts ($18), is amazingly calming and rejuvenating. One bath with it changes my entire outlook on life.

Alternatively, if there’s a Korean market near you, you can buy a 5-pound bag of sea salt for just $8. It’ll last you months, and just add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. A high-salt bath will clear your mind and take away negative energy. It sounds crazy, but trust me and give it a try.
