Snob Essentials

Paris Mens Fashion Week: Day 2 (From Beautiful Balmain to Grizzly Givenchy)

Today, Paris played hostess with the mostess to several shows. Some were amazing and incredibly sexy.  Others were eccentric or rather unremarkable.

So if you read this blog, or any of its siblings, you’ll know one thing: we love our Balmain. It’s true. We love it, and lets face it, it is snobby. It’s pricy, but fun and worth it! For FW 12, the house brought out looks that were wearable, durable (yay!), and masculine. This is what you’d like to see on the young, handsome guy who works hard, and plays just hard enough.

Balenciaga brought out a minimalist collection that was simple, but the presentation was rather unfortunate, since it made the clothes look unremarkable. I don’t know what’s going on here, because I cried tears of joy last season! I’m hoping for a better setup in the future, since it’s really difficult to see what is going on here.

Boys, Comme des Garçons showed something out there and eccentric, like usual, but that is what Rei is about. Unless you’re Marc Jacobs, this is not terribly wearable (that said, go Marc!). It sure was fun though.

So you know how I said Rick Owens makes me want to be gothic? Well, it doesn’t compare to Kris Van Assche, a man who may be the king of all that is dark. Wearing his clothes would make be feel like the most badass villain ever. This is not a shocker, however, as his garments are luxurious and are worth it. This is worth buying. Trust.

And then the Yves Saint Laurent boys walked the runway. I want it all. It was so sexy, and the usage of leather… Oh my. I always look forward to YSL, and this is a situation where I find menswear to always be better than womenswear. The only exception is accessories, and I want my Cabas bag. This is a house with the coolest legacy, and I think Yves himself would be proud…

Adam Kimmel is a young, talented designer, with a loyal clientele. His looks are extremely masculine, but they do work. The show wasn’t screaming excitement, but then again he doesn’t design for that purpose. This is why he has followers. The well-fitting suit and handsome suede jacket were what I’d like to call cool. However, I would like to know what Top Gun is doing in there? Perfect for the average guy, and it’s a retail favorite. Quality included in MSRP.

I was confused by the piercings at first, and wondered what Riccardo was thinking.. I was not entirely amused, since it distracted from the amazing quality of the clothes themselves. While this collection was not my favorite of his menswear, it spoke to a vision and idea, and that makes it a success.

And then there was John Galliano, a collection that somehow was out there, somehow was feminine, and somehow made me feel all confident about it. For some reason, this collection, was all over the place. It worked though, and I’m into those shoes!

DO YOU LOVE IT OR HATE IT?
