Givenchy Large Fish Skin Show Bag: Sea Level

When it comes to the cool factor, you don’t get much better that Givenchy. Riccardo Tisci turns out gorgeous creations for the luxuriant badass – and this bag is no exception. Actually, this bag is the epitome of cool! Forget python and crocodile (well, for the moment, at least); for Spring 2012, Givenchy delved deep under the sea and found literal inspiration in slinky eels, wild stingrays, fierce sharks. The result: accessories like we’ve hardly ever seen. This fish-skin tote has subtle oceanic details, like a shark-tooth closure and a new animal print: the spotted-shark.

The bag’s proportions, in a long shoulder-style, are just off enough to give it that edge without distracting from the glistening, mystifying skin. A double-chain shoulder strap may look challenging (ouch!), but a tough hardware strap is the only possible option for this otherworldly creature. Take a cue from Tisci: now is the time to conquer your fear of sharks, and dive in head first. Available for pre-order at Barneys New York for $1,860 (expect delivery in April).

Pair with: Lighten up this hardcore-chic bag with a whimsical necklace by Lanvin. This embellished acetate-and-brass seashell is fun and fanciful, without veering too far from the motif. On Net-a-Porter for $1,650.
