Chloé Jade Large Leather Shoulder Bag: Maybe I’m Just Jaded…

There’s not a horseshoe or padlock in sight. This is a new shape and feel for Chloé – and I’m liking it. Notice I said “like” and not “love.” I choose my words as carefully as I choose my bags!

Let’s be real: the only intriguing element here is the shoulder strap. Otherwise, you’ve just got a whole lot of smooth leather (not that there’s anything wrong with that). I love the way they’ve juxtaposed natural taupe against red, and tan piping pulls it all together so it’s not jarring to the eyes. It all looks great and proportional when you’re just looking at the bag by itself, but hang it on the shoulder and it just does not work. I mean, I have broad shoulders, but this thing requires, like, ‘80s pillow-style shoulder pads in order for this thick strap to sit properly without slipping.

The chunky industrial hardware is all great (the buckle has a satisfyingly futuristic feel), which I understand necessitates the proportionally substantial strap, but I’d happily forgo some of that visual coolness for a bag that won’t aggravate. On Net-a-Porter for $3,120.
